Looking forward to following your journey. From my training block week 4 always seems to be a tough one to mentally get past for me. Best of luck with the work/running balance
great to have you back with the training vlogs chris. i am also doing the brighton marathon 2023 & like you have less time to prepare this time in terms of number of weeks i usually give myself. i have just come out of a training block for the mk winter half which was on the 11 dec & gave myself a week off after, so should be ok. looking forward to the subsequent videos
Nice video, Chris. Quite the NYE run in the rain, wow! Even though 2022 didn't go how you'd have liked in regard to goals, you still got that marathon PB, which is a pretty big accomplishment. Hope you have a great 2023!
Thanks Andy and Happy New Year! Yeah, our cold spell has really returned to a very wet and muddy spell of weather. Yes at least I had one big achievement from 2022. New year now and new challenges to motivate me for 2023.
Happy New Year Chris. Great video and nice to see the Isle of Wight make an appearance. I was there in May 2018. Seems like yesterday, but a lot has happened over period since. You seem to be running very smoothly. Good to see Paul keeping you company in the last two vids. Having someone to run with helps the motivation. I have no doubt that you will have a good year, and wish you all the very best with it. I look forward to following along. It's been hot here, but I've managed to get out a few times in the cool of the evening. Come back in a ball of sweat, haha! Cheers mate! Phil
Thanks Phil. Good to hear that you've been getting some runs done I the cooler evenings. I sweat even in cold weather, so would be filling buckets of sweat in your climate 😂 Yes, good to run with Paul once a week. Hopefully we can continue that when we are both back at work.
What a cracking way to end the year Chris! Some top running mate! I believe 2023 will be bigger and better than 2022 for sure! Make sure you get yourself entered to a big race in the summer or autumn to keep that mojo alive! Happy New Year buddy! 😎🤘
Excellent. Treadmill running is much maligned! It has many plus points (IMHO): consistent hill ascents are possible followed by flat running - *floating along*. This makes IRL running downhill a joy! Treadmills also help *train the mind* for long run moments of boredom. Also one does not have to throw oneself into hedges to avoid trucks driven by fat-blokes arguing with gfs on their mobile phones instead of watching for runners! 😁 Its great to see you so enthusiastic, i hope this running year it all goes well, you *do all the right things* with your training and you deserve to reap the rewards! Tangentially: in February there's a 50k taking in the North Downs way, im thinking (just considering it... quite a long drive etc) The North Diwns Ridge 50k. If, if, i ran it i would be treating it as a *long run* to test my fitness and mental resolve before some road marathons. Last years times ranged between under 4hrs to just under the 10hr time limit so there seems to be runners of all *standards* involved! Anyway, hapoy running.
Thank you. I do love a treadmill run to compliment my outdoor running duringa training block. And you are right about training the mind. I was thinking about the North Downs Ridge 50K back in 2021, as preparation to my NDW50. I believe it's a well organised event. Dan Runs and Ben Notley did it last year and have videos of it up on their channels.
Well done Chris, a great solid half in filthy weather to finish off the year and yes, you now have that motivation to get out and get those miles in. Good luck for the rest of the training block.
What type of industry do you work in that has an entire week off the first week of the year? Or .... is this just your own personal vacation time that you're using to be off? I enjoy your videos and your personality very much, so I am very glad you are back to making videos again. I hope one of these days you run past that pasture with those beautiful cattle that you showed in a video sometime last year, the cattle which are black with a wide white band around their middle Here in the US I have never seen cattle like that. In addition to your pretty cattle, you have beautiful scenery there. Happy New Year, Chris!
Happy New Year to you too Cathy. I had the week before Christmas off, which was personal vacation and the week between Christmas and New Year (3 working days). Today is a public holiday, and I'm going to be running out on the trails but in the winter there are less cattle about to be seen on the run. Hopefully get some nice views into next week's video.
@@HereWeAreRunning Oh, thanks for letting me know it's your personal vacation time, rather than you maybe working in an unstable industry with involuntary furloughs. How nice to have so much time off during the Christmas and New Year holiday season. Okay, I guess I just have to keep watching your videos on and on so I can eventually see beautiful cattle again. There are NO cattle along the run routes here in New York City! 😀
Chris, I understand that you are not going to stay overnight for Brighton but how are you going to do the morning as that is a big impact on the run. Are you driving down to Brighton and booking a car park spot on one of these sites like "YourParkingSpace" or are you getting a morning train down and if so, what time will your train leave and get there?
For my previous two times running Brighton I've got the train and will hopefully do the same this time (assuming no strikes). Last year I left home early but arrived at the Preston Park way too early. This year I need to time it a bit better but haven't looked into actual times yet. My worry about driving is the ability to drive home afterwards, on marathon legs. If gge trains aren't running, I'll probably try and organise a lift.
@@HereWeAreRunning Thanks for the response. I am in the same situation but I am over in the west (Fleet/Farnborough) so travelling by train is a bit trickier but driving by car and parking hours before my run (In my case allowing 5 hours to run my first marathon) and as you pointed out the drive home will be really tricky. I think I need to do more research in to what wave I am going to be released in and then work backwards so I can make the train work. Thanks for doing a training vlog. I am subscribed and will hopefully see you on the day to say well done !
I suspect I'll race the marathon in my Next% 2. Not a stable shoe at all but I seem to get away with it by only wearing them once or twice a year and still got plenty of life left it them.
Looking forward to following your journey. From my training block week 4 always seems to be a tough one to mentally get past for me. Best of luck with the work/running balance
I know what you mean about week 4. That always the week where the legs start to let me know the volume is increasing.
So cool that we're both going after some big marathon goals! Your series is going to keep me motivated! Happy New Year Chris! Keep pushing!
My 2022 was also a big disappointment, but it’s character building if nothing else, here’s to 2023 being more successful 🙏🏻👍🏻
Hope you'll have a better 2023 mate 👍 😀
We were in Sandown in August, much nicer weather lol! If the only goal you've reached is a marathon PB it's still a pretty good year!

Super video Chris, including the Shanklin to Sandown esplanade. Look forward to following your journey 😊

Good to see you back at it!

I’ve ended my 2022 in bed with Covid so still waiting for 2023 to start. Hope there aren’t any long term impacts and I can get back out there again…
Sorry to hear that and wishing you a quick recovery so that you can kick start 2023 soon 👍
I did a ten miler on NYE and finished up around Battlebridge, I got absolutely soaked! Fair play to you for getting out in those conditions.
Well done Mark. Yeah, really tough conditions. Completely soaked by the end!

Hey dude off topic but u going national running shoes birm this year ?
Yes, I should be there on the Saturday
