What a nice shave (and some good looking stuff on the barbecue)! Watching how you hold your razor and conduct each stroke is teaching me how to shave better. Since everybody else seems to be mentioning their shaves, I'll go ahead and describe mine from Saturday night (probably closest in time to you shooting this video). I used a Yaqi Mellon razor, Lord Platinum blade, and Tallow + Steel Madagascar soap and splash. That was a great shave and my wife and I both loved the exotic floral scent (neither of us could describe it any better than that). Looking forward to the Wednesday video. Cheers!

Hi from Antalya Paul. I've just been given a Merkur Futur in gold and it looks great. I've only taken it to setting 3 so far but even that setting gives me an extremely close shave. I read somewhere that setting 1 is higher than setting 6 on the Rockwell 6s. I can't find a blade gap chart for the Futur so I wrote to Merkur and all they said was from 0.9mm to 1.90mm. I don't think that they really know the blade gaps.

Sunday shaves and beautiful flowers are a great start to the week. You don't often get many weepers. That Futur is one DE I've stayed away from. I have noticed when you do get weepers that you don't use an alum block. Is there a reason you shy away from those? Wishing you and Mrs. H a relaxing rest of the weekend.

SOTD for me this morning was a full lineup Proraso green along with the Proraso by Omega boar brush, razor was the FaTip grande gold loaded with a Astra SP blade 2nd use. I used to go from 3 to 6 on the Futur. But now I don't need to go higher than 1.0 for a quick and perfect shave. Even at 1.0 a Feather feels more aggressive than in an R41.
You've inspired me to bust out the ol' Ming-Shi 2000 with a fresh long discontinued LORD "Captain" carbon-steel blade l scooped in 2016 loaded into the device for my Monday shave with some Cella soap & my horse-hair brush. They are pretty groovy blades and l think you'd dig them, eh? "Y.M.M.V." of course. 😉 l would gladly send you a fresh tuck of them to test drive, if feasible? 10 blades to test in ten razors would make a few videos. Have a great weekend. 🌞

I plan on using the PAA Cube pre shave, Leaf Twig razor in gold, Feather blade, Semogue 830 brush (my first ever brush that I bought based on your recommendation), TOBS Eton College cream (although it's turning into a hard soap now), Nivea Aftershave Balm for Sensitive skin, and Dior Homme Intense EDP to top it off. I know it's not the most expensive shave in the world but I thought it had some sentimental value, especially the brush choice. Mr. Paul H, How are you? I have the Merkur Futur in mate a few days and I have taken spectacular shaves with it but she now bit under the chin... I think because the blade was not very sharp so it stuck in the skin (which was also not well stretched) and made a cut... I changed the blade and continued and it went well! I'm waiting for Astra blades for her, what do you think? Thank you very much for your time, have a great shave have a great 2025!!!
Does the brush splays very easy like the yellow Plissoft/Plisson knot? I always prefer smaller brush and I do enjoy brush that splays easily since I have sensitive skin.

Again on setting 6, the harshest setting on that razor. I didn't shave for 1.5 weeks recently and still got a great shave just on setting 1. I've said many times, try it on setting 1 and surprise yourself. So why don't you?
Hello. Depending on your growth, on your skin type sensitive, normal. In this particular case Mekur Futur, the razor is very aggressive so you might put a lower setting first use and try it out a few strokes. If your skin it's ok with the setting try and switch to a higher setting. I have a sensitive skin and when i shave with let's say my 1960 Fatboy with a two days beard, i do first pass on setting 4, pass two and three on setting 3 and "pick up time baby" on setting 2. Try it yourself and see whats better for you. Have a nice day.
That comes with using it a few times first, trying different settings, you usually find the setting which you like best. Then work from there, using different blades, maybe trying a higher setting when you have a good few days of growth.
@@PaulHFilms I usually shave every 3 days and with 2 passes - WTG and ATG, X makes me break out! - I'm good to go! But sometimes I don't shave in like a week or something so I need flexibility. My hair is rough but my skin is super sensitive!!! I have a Rockwell 6S which is one of the best of the adjustables but I guess it's not for me...6/5 base plate is too aggressive, 4 and below just scoops the cream, and I've tried a number of blades...
Steak and Burgers... If you added some chicken-leg quarters, some shoulder-blade lamb chops, and double thick cut pork chops, you'd have my Carnivore platter.

How do you figure out which number to set it on for each pass and depending on the growth I suppose ?
Hello. Depending on your growth, on your skin type sensitive, normal. In this particular case Mekur Futur, the razor is very aggressive so you might put a lower setting first use and try it out a few strokes. If your skin it's ok with the setting try and switch to a higher setting. I have a sensitive skin and when i shave with let's say my 1960 Fatboy with a two days beard, i do first pass on setting 4, pass two and three on setting 3 and "pick up time baby" on setting 2. Try it yourself and see whats better for you. Have a nice day.
That comes with using it a few times first, trying different settings, you usually find the setting which you like best. Then work from there, using different blades, maybe trying a higher setting when you have a good few days of growth.
@@PaulHFilms I usually shave every 3 days and with 2 passes - WTG and ATG, X makes me break out! - I'm good to go! But sometimes I don't shave in like a week or something so I need flexibility. My hair is rough but my skin is super sensitive!!! I have a Rockwell 6S which is one of the best of the adjustables but I guess it's not for me...6/5 base plate is too aggressive, 4 and below just scoops the cream, and I've tried a number of blades...
Rockwell has a list with recommended plates/days of growth but I think it's kinda vague.
If you have a 6C or 6S start with plate nr 3 and see how you feel like. If it's a T2 watch out it's more agressive than the the first two.
