    cool video for 1980.
    i started going to punk shows around april 1980 i was 14, in Southern California.
    What an amazing time for live punk gigs at run down old small clubs like: The Cuckoo's Nest( sweat box ) The Whisky A Go Go, The Vex( sweat box ) Al's Bar. And obscure one time only places that dared to book a punk show@!!!!.
    Amazing time!!!... So many amazing Southern California punk bands like: TSOL, Social Distortion, Black Flag, CH3, Circle Jerks, Wasted Youth, Legal Weapon, Adolescents, Red Cross, Angry Samoans. AMAZING LIVE PUNK SHOWS--- AhhhhhhhWhewwwwwwYaaaaaaaaBaaaaaabyDamnnnIt.

    Oklahoma's first punk band was Debris' from Chickasha. They recorded an underground classic album "Static Disposal" 5 years before this was released. These kids were late to the party. Debris' are still playing in the OKC area now as Killer Kicks.

      +Race Baker Hey friend I had a question. There is a film out which details the Hardcore movement of the early 80's called American Hardcore and in it a map is shown of the U.S. showing the bands from all around. Oklahoma had one on that map and for years I have wondered who that band was. Here is the map. Maybe you can help homie.

      Hey man, that band was N.O.T.A. aka None Of The Above. They were out of Tulsa. I don't know too much about their history, but there is an album of theirs on UA-cam you can listen to. Just do a search for "N.O.T.A." I saw one of the guys from that band at the Green Door in OKC years ago in a band called The Beer Mongers, I believe. I don't think they are still playing, but I could be wrong. There must have been a pretty cool national network of punk bands in the early 80's. I remember reading about the Flaming Lips doing shows with Black Flag in OKC way back then. Funny to picture now.

    0:34 - Those flares are killing me ! First a Pogo warning , THEN a Tornado warning....which is it? What''s cool is ,, they gave fans and casual observers a chance to voice their opinions....Even if some of them couldn't do so without interrupting each other. Her hair looked blue , but , it was'nt so ahead of it's time , it just took brass to look like that in Oklahoma. First time I saw a woman with purple hair was in Dallas in '81 , but , I was too young to get into clubs , there must have been many others.

    Punk is more than just the music. It is a way of life. It is about what you believe as well. It is about the underdog.

    Wow! People in Oklahoma have lost their "country" accent over the years. This is an awesome video.

    Oklahoma City is one of the most normal places in the world to grow up, but in many ways, the last place on earth to jump on trends. My mother never saw a hippie until 1972, and that was almost 6 years after the first longhairs appeared in California. When we finally started getting "punk" here, it was already over in England, and the form it came in was arguably a punk/new wave hybrid. I remember in 1983, it was a big deal in our high school when a kid upset the "hair code" and got a mohawk, and when we I finally saw it, it really wasn't a mohawk, or a really poorly constructed one, anyway.

    I remember this. My friends and I were all the freaks. Mohawks Liberty Spikes green and blue and pink piercings and tattoos everywhere. Combat boots and Docs dirty flannel shirts. Awesome. This was the late 80s early 90s. I started young. I was 12 and 13 when I got into it. We were all excited about this news story. I believe it was in 1992.

      That was the third wave. There was another wave of punk in the mid-eighties too.
      This was 12 years before you.

      I remember it all. U2 played at Charlie's Chili on the tour for their second album "October".

    • @MartinIDavies
      @MartinIDavies 7 років тому

      I was the manger for the Reactions and they played at Charlie's Chili (after a law suite). the Reactions were Ted front manm, vocals, Martin drums, Haden bass and Steve lead guitar.
      I also recall having discussions with a the owners/management of Quicksilver nightclub (on the corner NW23rd and a street who's name escapes me) Destinations bar (3.2 beer) was there (Reactions 1st gig) and a biker bar close by.. about 'producing' and putting on a U2 show there (at Quicksilvers).
      I don't recall U2 playing at Charlie's Chilli.. I do recall that U2 wanted $13,000 to play in OKC and my portion was to be $3,500(which I just didn't have the and so passed on the opportunity.

    • @johnseal56
      @johnseal56 5 років тому +2

      I did! Apparently it was a wry reference to a dance of the period. The context and dry tone, however, led me to believe that it was a warning for some now-archaic threat.
