Respect for changing a fork spring at the track on a July day in Florida. I've been dragging my feet on swapping my stock '05 yz125 pipe and silencer onto my bike in place of the PC RV pipe and 304 silencer while at the track to get that back-to-back comparison, but I have brought them with me (been riding around in the back seat of my pickup for over a year now haha).
Much respect to you and the experience you have, especially the suspension tuning you do. I have 2 brand new bone stock dirt bikes ('24 300 SX and '24 YZ250) and I just can't see myself ever riding them expertly enough to need anything but the stock front and rear forks/springs/shock and settings they came with. I barely even know what a clicker is and what compression/rebound is LOL. I'm a little fatter than you, at 5'11 200-ish lbs. However, I haven't bottomed out the suspensions, but then again I lack anywhere good to ride and have not hit jumps with the bikes (yet). I hope I develop some intelligence about suspension tuning and will keep watching you to help with this.
Thanks! Luckily suspension theses day doesnt take nearly the amount of work that it took to get it right back in the day. For the most part your 24 YZ250 and 24 300SX will be good enough right out the box. Just 20 years ago any brand or model needed a ton of tuning if I wanted to be able to ride it fast safely. We have it so good today lol. But if you do ever want to learn My suggestion is start with one setting at a time, mark it so you know where its at so you can put it back if needed, and play with that setting a little. See how it feels and what it changes. After you figure that setting out then move to the next setting and do the same. Its time consuming but when the work is done the bike will be customized to the rider and thats a great feeling.
I really like the natural video. No stabilizibg. The shakyness is exactly what you are experiencing. I turned it off on the GoPro 9, and it is crazy how much more shaky it is. I could feel the roughness because I have ridden 74. Lol, you were giving her the beans, too! I was winded hearing you grunt picking her up.
Right on! I found turning stability on makes it look like a drone flying and doesnt show the struggle of the ride lol. It was a hot but good day at 74 They are slowly but surely making the track better and better, everytime I go it seems a little better. Hopefully you can make it out with us this weekend!
That bike is a beast! Sounds like a big bore down low and screams like 125 up top. Glads it's working out for you and love to learn from these vids. I'll always be a 125 Weenie but it's still a blast. I was tired of the injuries and peadaling on MTB so great Idea, get a dirt bike. I'll never learn. LOL!
Thanks! Dude she surely rips! Nothing wrong with 125's I love mine. Probably the funnest bike I have ever riden, no kidden. Yeah MTB can surely be dangerous too lol
LoL, right! Mid day I was like all this would be so much easier if it was not summer lol. Looking forward to taking her out this coming weekend with no tuning in mind, just riding. Now that all the hard work is done.
Great info. Suspension tuning is my week point for sure. I'm an old trail rider and we just turn the clickers down for a soft ride. Now that my sons are doing more track riding I'm really struggling trying to help them adjust their suspension.I did use the ATF when I rebuilt our YZ125 forks and my son did say it felt more plush. Thanks
Thanks! Trail riding sounds fun right now, Looking forward to hare scramble season again. Yeah I'm still using ATF as well. But that mobile 1 synthetic is getting harder to find these days.
Yes lowering the high speed does give the feeling of a lower rear end. But the feeling I was feeling felt more like the rear was just a hair too tall and beating up on the front end. I do still need to tinker with the highspeed some though. See if there is anything better there.
With the mods you did on it Is that bike scary at all? Too much/not enough/just right on the power? My stocker scares me and yours is way more hopped up.
Hello. The top end power is pretty crazy fast but the bottom and mid range is pretty controllable. I can thank the V force 4X reeds with the spacer for taming down the bottom and mid to a controllable level, while boosting the top end as a trade off. This works for me because some of the tracks I ride where its real tacky and hard to use all the power I need the throttle control in the bottom and mid to control the bikes power delivery. But then other tracks I ride that are sandier and deeper I need all the power I can get and the top end power is there for them tracks. If you want to tame down the overly snappy feel maybe try the V force 4X with the stock reed spacer. It surely brings in crisp but controllable power and throttle control IMO.
They do get a hair shorter through time. I can find older springs about 1mm shorter. I'm going to guess its a combo of both, slightly shorter and slightly less tension after break in.
Hey mate have you tested the apex head sx dome yet im on the fence about getting one i have the mx dome set at 1.20mm squish rad valve jetted accordingly. and 2 stock heads to modify i also got a pro circuit pipe and shorty silencer for testing compared to my DEP pipe and fmf shorty setup. Since im to far away to send you my DEP.
Hello. I never did get to test the SX dome. But I have a friend that runs the SX dome and he likes it better than the MX dome. Let me know what you think about thet DEP pipe. I hear they are more mid range focused compared to the PC
@UpAllNight91 so definitely lost bottom end roll on power with the pro circuit but think I've gained a hair or 2 up top you definitely need to get your hands on a DEP to try
@UpAllNight91 i will ad the paddock that we were racing is was very soft black wet dirt and was extremely boggy and on a hill with loads of off cambers so not a very fair test will have to go back to back at my friends track
@@Boorer_555 Right on. I do liek the softer roll on of the PC because it allows me to crack open the throttle easier mid corner without blowing it out. But I'm sure different tracks or areas might be different.
Hello, what oil do you think works best in the transmission of the yz 250 23, I have put Motul 7100 10 40 in it, I noticed the smoothest and most precise gear change, but I also noticed the vibrating effect of the clutch when leaving when cold, then in hot it doesn't do it, I don't usually abuse the clutch, the bike doesn't last ten hours, it could be that it lacks coupling because it is still so new, or the synthetic yamalube 10 40 would be better for this case, thank you very much in advance, greetings
Hello. I use shell rotella 15-40 in the white bottle. Been using it for like 20 years. Its been good with clutches and the transmission. You can buy it anywhere, even walmart and the price is right. The grabby clutch when cold can be a oil issue but some bikes will do it when they are new and it kinda fades away with use. My brothers 2023 YZ125 was like that. However some bikes dont like some oils. The CRF250r clutches dont do well with the honda oil the dealer recommends and switching them to shell rotella fixes them right up. I have not found a bike that has had issue with rotella yet.
@@UpAllNight91 Hello, sorry for the inconvenience, which gasoline is better for 2T motorcycles yz 250 and ktm 300 17, 98 octane or 95, engine reliability in the long term, can one lubricate better than the other or is it just gossip, I am clear that the 98 is better because of the auto-ignition, but I don't know if it can compromise the durability of the engine, thank you very much, good day.

For having an off day you sure did run the wheels off. Sounded great. 🏜👍
Thanks Bradley. This coming weekend I will have my first weekend of riding the new bike without any tuning in mind. Looking forward to that now 😉.
Cool video! I like the POV adjustment of the sag.

Take a little bit of high speed comp out of the rear to lower the rear a small bit

I wonder if the springs shorten up a little bit rather than loose rate? A spacer might save you money next time?
