With the multi-lock missiles. They do a TON of damage, especially when you lock multiple onto the same enemy. For instance that fight with the two robot chozo soldiers at the same time, if you do a couple multi locks onto one of them, they die incredibly fast. I actually think they stop having you fight them at that point because the multi-lock missiles make them a joke.
The Chozo can control the larval stage of the Metroids, they were design to be controlled, is just that in SR388 the Metroid evolved for some reason, probably the Aeon, and then the new batch of Alphas, Betas and beyond could not be controlled by the Chozo.
Makes sense, only part that still doesn't track for me if that's the case though is how absorbing Quiet Robe allows Samus to control her own Metroid form. I mean...that's gotta be a step or two above larval form, right?
@@Wayneisboss Well, no Metroid stage other than larva is capable of absorbing energy... I think, pretty sure that´s a larva thing only, just like the ice weakness
@@Wayneisboss it might be because it’s a more direct control. Instead of the DNA being in a chozo like the metriods on SR-388 it’s directly inside of her.
@@Wayneisboss there is 2 optional answers why absorbing Quiet Robe x 1. the thoha DNA controls metroid larva so absorbing the x version of him sooths down the metroid part of her and counters the mawkin dna.(since x parasite replicates 1:1 it replicates the dna also). 2. Im pretty sure on a very early interview with Sakamoto, he said that when you absorbed the Sa-x in fusion it canceled out the metroid dna. (while this has been retconned as seen in dread. but the idea of dna canceling/balancing each other was kept.)which this point just supports the first one more.
@@raemmio2761 @Wayneisboss, to add onto this, when absorbing X with special abilities, Samus is able to gain special abilities - like the crossbmb in this game, so gaining an (increased) ability to control metroids via absorbing Quiet Robe was my interpretation. Though I think the question in my mind about Quiet Robe in the ending, is how much was of that action was based on Quiet Robe's personality, and how much was based on the X's... From what I remember, the X should have gained Quiet Robe's memories, knowledge, and philosophy... there would be something interesting if an X knowingly chose to save Samus via self sacrifice.
I was totally sucked into this game from the outset. Couldn't put it down, couldn't dream of playing anything else. Having to put it down to play co-op games with my brothers on Saturday and Sunday evenings was just pure pain. I loved it start to finish, and I'm so happy I played it as heavily as I did and finished it quickly because I get to watch this amazing review! I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. This game is so great. I'm already looking forward to playing it again.
I couldn't put this game down either. I've already completed three and a half playthroughs, and I'm about to start a 5th. Lol The first one was regular. The second one was 100%. The third one is hard mode, and the fourth one is me trying to practice all the sequence breaks i've heard about so far.
Wow, absolutely best inciteful review! This is definitely my GOTY, I have loved every aspect of this game!! Thank you for sharing your passion for Metroid with all of us, you did an amazing job editing all this together!!!
That part where she sucked the last EMMI dry and then she looks down at her hand as her theme starts playing in the background is so dang chilling still. Like a massive shift just happened in the powers that be. Loved this series you did - discovered you from the DYKG episode you did! I look forward to more stuff in the future!
Metroid dread is such an amazing game and I’m glad it was the second Metroid game I beat. Also that final boss destroyed my thumbs!! Lmao. Great video man and Metroid month is amazing.
Finally finished Dread yesterday. I'm so happy I took a media blackout on anything Metroid Dread related after the initial announcement. This game absolutely blew me away. I can't believe that we not only got a game called "Dread", but that it absolutely slayed its delivery beyond anything I could have hoped for after nearly 20 years of silence on the series mainline story. Couldn't wait to watch your video once it popped up.
21:44 I love this. Hard to contain my laughter. It fits so well Overall great quality video~ Nice editing, things snap onto place very nicely (like Spider Magnet --> Phantom Cloak transition) Yeah I've watched a dozen reviews on the game already, but they spark joy and this was truly HQ Also I May or may not just, grab that bit of reasoning on 'the longer/more plentiful the possession of the host, the goopier the body' bit to some writing worldbuilding about the X. It just makes sense. In Fusion too. The scientists, they're a big mushy pile of goop and the X will keep picking those mangled corpses up as their hosts no matter how many times you shoot them. You don't exactly see many critters be as decomposed as these few goopy ones, but that's enough for me to utilize to make stuff horrifying~
Um sir, are you serious? The storm missiles are my favorite weapon in the game. Like the area where you fought 2 of those robots, it tears through them like they are nothing. The storm missiles are almost game breaking. :)
Oh my gosh. I am just going to say this. Dread is a phenomenal Metroid game in all the right ways. There's just so many things I adore about it all, and it's just.. aghhhhh! It's amazing! I enjoyed every moment I had spent playing it. Even managing to learn a few of the speedrun tricks used in the game as well, such as early screw attack, grapple beam and bombs.
Great work once again, Wayne! I loved this game, it was my first ever experience of the franchise. I used your channel as a gateway into it to prepare myself lore wise for the history of the game and it made it that much more enjoyable. 😀 That being said, I have to say that I personally found Raven Beak's name stupid. Like funny stupid. I couldn't really take him seriously until we fought. As in, the Chozos are all like "Ayyy, we're bird people. We know what we're about. Let's lean into it." His name might as well have been "Pecker Face" and it would've made no difference by that logic. 🤣
I believe the double jump was meant to replace the high jump ability from previous games. Although, as you stated, it becomes useless with the space jump.
i felt the same about the storm missiles and the robot chozo soldiers my first playthrough but put them together and the fight becomes much less annoying.
@@Wayneisboss Storm Missiles kinda becomes the boss killer, really. Sure, you sacrifice some immediate damage to charge and acquire locks, but once it's done, your missiles will do their best to figure out how to get to their targets.
I already just beat the game on hard mode last night preparing for this review! Great stuff Wayne! I just people would see your stuff from this video alone apart from the Spider-Man stuff. See you next mission... Any objections, Wayne?
This was great timing as I beat it last night. Wow. What an incredible game. STORY SPOILERS AHEAD I really appreciated your summary of the plot because, while I loved it, I didn't quite understand it fully and you brought some much needed clarification (for example that it was Raven Beak guiding us the whole time and not the real Adam).
Dude great video and perspective. I have some minor criticisms of Dread but they pale in comparison to just how stonking awesome the game really is. Very pleased with how this game turned out and hopefully the sales numbers will convince the Big N to do more with the franchise.
New Dread ending. Find and kill Quite Robe, or get less 75% items and samus drains the ship of energy and quietly accepts her fate as the planet explodes with her on it. True end.
Dread was so good that I just played this game 3 times in a row and beaten hard mode for the under 4 hour achievement. Everything from the movement to the sequence breaks are just great. The game felt pretty linear because the level design often has a point of no return but when you get items out of order, the entire game cracks open and then there are just small details like using shinepark to damage those robots or using moves you are not supposed to have yet like using the screwattack against that big bug boss.
I really don’t understand how people don’t think this game trumps super Metroid.. I’m 36 and I’ve played super back in the day so I have that nostalgia factor too.. this game is a masterpiece imo

Nah, there are a set amount of those encounters. Shit, I ran into them in _Burenia_ while trying to clean up the place!
Bravo!!! Amazing job Wayne! Thank you for letting me participate!

One little detail I've appreciated from these videos is that you pose your Figma Samus to match the game you're covering's cover art.

Omg! Never thought about it :O
Didn't know that you could grapple beam it
Evil Scott the woz
I had trouble getting the hang of the chozo robot guys too. That red charging move is the pinnacle of camping incentive...
Really glad this game was as tough as it is. Fusion already had a great difficulty curve and Dread pumps it up to 11

Fantastic video. I'm not a big Metroid fan, but this review makes me want to get this game.
Nice use of music to punctuate and give depth to your points. It's a great touch that I don't usually see to this degree. :)
YES!!! This is my favorite Metroid game mainly because they kept the free aim and melee attacks, and the ending.
Ahh your familiar with its always sunny in Philadelphia. I lol,d real hard at that bit. You’ve got a flair for reviewing games that you love 10/10
