I bet Al was everybody's favourite music teacher.
It's hard to estimate how many lives Al has affected. 80s/90s kids grew up with his games, showing us how fun computers could be. This undoubtedly led to many career choices later on. Thank you for the memories, Al.
I was a fan of the first 3 LLL games and other Sierra titles. Back in 1989 or so, I would play them all night on a weekend until the sun came up. They were unique and intriguing; they were so unlike the mainstream games of Nintendo, Atari, Sega, etc. The people at Sierra really loved their work, their products truly reflected their talent and passion. Thank you for the amazing entertainment Mr. Lowe, you are a genius.
Leisure suit larry 7 is still to me the BEST point and click adventure in terms of atmosphere and writing, i really miss that elvel of quality
Thank you for this interview, Daniel. I've rewatched every Al Lowe interview a dozen times. I grew up with Sierra games. They are my childhood and Al is one of the most favorite people in existence. It's sad that Paul finds Larry games degrading. How can one say that, knowing the man, who made them! They're satire.
Loved all the Larry games. Played them when I was too young for them, and I don't think they corrupted me or anything. I don't think they had anything worse than what is considered normal on today's television. Those games fabulous in every way. Love Al's music. His tunes are iconic and will live through history.
I've been known to put on an Al Lowe interview while falling asleep.. Every retro gamers grandfather - I could listen to him all day long..!
@@skRapKlanIt's a good thing that you've got 3 hours worth of Al in this conversation :)
@@skRapKlan Absolutely! I do that too. He's like like a real life Santa... who plays saxophone.
@@danielalbu Right - most of his good interviews are this length tho - I have them all saved..!
@@enilenis Hahaha funny sidenote... I took up playing the sax and got into jazz because of Al Lowe...!
I really appreciate the Larry games and respect Al Lowe! I wish Al health and creative success!
Great interview. Exciting career, it sounds like Al knew his stuff. Got to try Freddy Pharkas
Thanks for watching!
Freddy Pharkas is pretty fun and it's currently on sale on GOG, so you should definitely give it a try!
We haven’t forgotten the Sierra legends like Al Lowe! I wish Al well, and have always loved his creations! Please ask him code related questions! There’s not enough interviews on the technical details about AGI and SCI.
Thanks for the content!
This conversation contains quite a few code-related questions!
Awesome interview, thanks for this trip down memory lane.. Al Lowe is such a great guy! Thanks to him I started making my own games as a little kid! Eternal gratitude...
Fantastic interview! 👏 It’s channels and content like this that still allow UA-cam to have a soul.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Thank you so much for the kind words! ❤
Ahahaha it's Al Lowe, love this guy. His whole goofy acting is awesome. Great Interview. Larry was a really cool game. I also played it as a kid and ofc didn't understand all of the stuff going on *g
My favorite part was Larry 2, even if it was kinda more serious and the puzzles were crazy hard as ***, but anyways I loved the mysteriousness of the game and all those cool places that Larry visits.
I wrote a few emails to Al over the many years and I can say he did respond to all my emails. I've always urge him to revive the creation of Lsl8 - Lust in Space. But he just refuses. Haha. If only someone would take up the mantle. That would be awesome
I love listening to Al talk. His joy of life is obvious with his games and his sense of humor. What a great conversation.
Thanks for watching!
I get the impression if Ken Willaims was Captain Kirk, Al Lowe seems to be Scotty the Engineer.
I will say this...I loved the third one as the absolute best and most favorite of the whole series.
It felt like a genuine joy to watch the journey how Patti compatibly wanted to stick with Larry, even though his story is how he always intends to get laid.
If I have to go with the rankings:
1. Leisure Suit Larry 3
2. Leisure Suit Larry: Land of the Lounge Lizards (original)
3. Leisure Suit Larry 2
4. Leisure Suit Larry 6
5. Leisure Suit Larry 7
6. Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded
7. Leisure Suit Larry 5 (Cool concept, terrible execution)
8. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude
Aaaand...Box Office Bust :/
So excited for Al Lowe's interview! He's a legend, and such a great person! A few more hours! :)
If by a few more hours you mean 26 hours, then yeah, it’s just a few more hours away… 😊
(The premiere is on Sunday, December 31st at noon (PT))
See you tomorrow ❤
Al Lowe has a fantastic personality! Loved this and all the nostalgia. Great interview as always! I also appreciated his comments about the Black Cauldron movie (which even disappointed me as a kid).
At 33:26 min. I can say I had a TI-99. Loved that as a precursor to Atari 800 XL and Commodore 64. (I still use it for my taxes...no wonder I get audited every year.)
Thanks for watching and also thank you for taking the time to comment on each and every video ❤
FANTASTIC interview. Daniel and Paul get the absolute legends on their show. Leisure Suit Larry was a big part of my gaming life back in the mid to late 90s, and seeing Al Lowe here is such a treat. Thank you Daniel for this interview.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the interview!
Thanks for watching!
I still remember how I did an interview with Al for one of Russian website about games in 2004.
I read an article about him in the gaming magazine and decided to look for his official website.
I found it and write him an email about myself and my desire to do an interview with him for Russian fans of Leisure Suit Larry.
He kindly agreed and asked me to find some website or magazine that would publish it.
We chatted on Skype for an hour! He's really a nice person!
This should be a hoot! So many wonderful and insightful interviews! I've enjoyed each and every one.Thank you and your guests for enriching our lives with happiness.
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching!
I’ve been watching a lot of Al interviews. Excited to see this one! 🍻
A really a great interview. I played Larry games when I was just 12-years-old. I am from Finland so it was really hard because my english was so poor but I learned a lot by playing.
Larry games are so funny and I don’t think no Larry game player becomes a bad person because it’s just a game. This is just guys stuff. I think from all Larry players men are 97 %… I think
Really great memories from these games. Thank you so much Al Lowe 👍👍👍👍👍👍
At 19:53, Al accidentally said "Scott Adams" instead of "Douglas Adams." I've done that a few times, too.
Great stuff and we need more Al. Tim Cain next? This channel came from nowhere.
You'll get more Al Lowe soon as he'll be joining me for a Freddy Pharkas / Leisure Suit Larry 7 livestream in the near future!
Thanks for watching!
I remember way back when my neighbour had larry 1 on his dads computer and we only knew very little english we used to try to guess the age check questions and never got them right. One time we got it right and right when the game started we walked straight to the drive way and larry got run over with the car and that was that. We didnt touch the game again until we found out the cheat for the age check from god knows where.
I never heard officially that SCI was a backronym, but I always suspected it since "Sierra Creative Interpreter" didn't seem like a name chosen without constraints. :) Thanks for that new tidbit!
That was really enlightening. Thank you for doing these, Daniel.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching!
I loved this interview Daniel, Al is a class act and a person I like very very much. His games are part of my childhood and people these days don’t understand what the Larry games really meant and what they did for the exact opposite that they’re criticized for.
Thank you for the kind words!
I'm glad you enjoyed this interview!
And you're right, the Larry games (that were created by Al) had much more depth to them than just games with crude jokes!
Looking forward to Daniel and Al
Thanks Daniel for this interview. It's very refreshing watching Al Lowe talk about how he grew up and programming games. He's one of my favorite along with space quest and king's quest. I love Sierra online games and Al lowe is healthy and happy. Hello Al Lowe from West Virginia
Thanks for watching!
Feel free to subscribe as there are many more Sierra conversations that I plan to premiere in the near future!
We are on the interneeets
1:45:45 I would have done the opposite. Deaths in adventure games are funny. Just finding new, creative ways to get Larry killed was a blast.
Daniel, why didn't you follow up with questions about the Lloyd Alexander relationship with Mr. Lowe? He clearly had some interesting conversations with him about the game. Would be great to hear if he enjoyed it. 54:22
I'll ask him about it in our future Let's Play session of Leisure Suit Larry 7!
@@danielalbu Future stuff is perfect for catching up on all the tidbits - lovely!! Thanks so much for all your work! Is there somewhere I can submit questions from fans you might fit in on future interviews?

Ahhh, i just realized you moved to this channel, i have some catching up to do.
Hay Daniel!
So glad to see that at the end you did manage to arrange an interview with mr Lowe!
I originally had asked you about it on "Conversations With Curtis" channel : ) ua-cam.com/video/wIhxZYQRZ8Q/v-deo.html
I remember your comment :)
In the end, I decided to do a solo interview with Al :)
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@danielalbu Really? Oh man! I am really happy I helped a bit to make this happen. I wasn't even sure if mr Lowe did interviews any more. So happy he accepted! Thank you Daniel!
@IbizanHound2 Thank you for watching!
Adjusted for inflation, $3,500 in 1978 is equal to $16,728 in 2023.
