    The happiest I've ever seen Mr. Ayouade is when 'Fun' was put into Room 101. I only used proper grammar for the sake of Richard, and for the first time in at least ten years. It is considerably more effort than it is worth. That is all.

    For 97 percent of people to be surviving plane crashes, they must have included instances where planes get off the runway for only a very short time before having to put down again as 'crashes'.

    • @Dorianin1
      @Dorianin1 6 років тому +6

      Hardly. Planes are designed quite carefully to be able to have the passenger cabin protect passengers in case of a crash. As well, very few crashes are high speed impacts. Modern airplanes have at least a 300 to 1 glide ratio.

    • @pretzelhunt
      @pretzelhunt 3 роки тому

      lol. no they dont go 300miles for every 5200ft/alt. check your facts. Not even modern bespoke gliders go over 80:1.

    • @hisredrighthand5212
      @hisredrighthand5212 2 роки тому

      Still, maybe I'm not fully awake yet, but I would think if there is a 1:1.2 million chance of having a plane crash and then over 96% of passengers survive a plane crash - let's say 95% for the sake of argument here - wouldn't that mean the probability *D* of dying in a plane crash is a*b, where *a* ist the probability of your plane crashing and *b* is the probability of dying whilst in that plane crash?
      So that would make (1/1.2m)*(1/20)=1/24m, so 1 in 24 million? What am I doing wrong here?

      The way you describe, it would be half closed. It's shaped that way so that a weak piece of plastic can hold open what could be a large, heavy book. I would imagine there's a flat pad on the contact points to prevent damage. I agree, damage would be unacceptable, but I think the manufacturer would realize readers are somewhat iconoclastic.

But another viewer might not care for him and might watch to see Gabby (it's not inconceivable). Also it helps keep all these mainstays of the panel shows in work.

    I'm not fully awake, but I would think: If you take a plane somewhere and the probability *a* of being in a plane crash is 1/(1.2m) = 0.000000832. And if the probability *b* of not surviving a plane crash is 1 - 0.967 = 0.033. Then intuitively I'd think the probability of dying in a plane crash *c* would be *c* = a * b = 0.000000832 * 0.033 = 0.000000027456, i.e. 1 in 27.5 million. What am I doing wrong?

The way he spoke to Gabby, and then tried to twist around what she was saying to make her seem stupid to prove his point (that was wrong anyway) was kinda repulsive. Imagine how he treats people he feels comfortable with when no one is looking. Then to top it off he thinks people laughing at a funny book is annoying, and that they're just showing off? No Alan, it's just you, and it's definitely not "a thing". Strange guy.

    Alun has a good idea with the gloves though, you could match them up and cut down on costs. Great idea.
    Laughing out loud when reading a book? No. If it's funny it's funny. What's worse is overhearing peoples earphones.

    Now that Gabby Logan's on the turn I can't think of a single good reason why soon she should still be on the telly. There are literally millions of people in the UK with more charisma than her who could do her jobs to at least the same standard after training and garnering a tiny bit of the experience that she's accumulated. She got on telly because she was hot. That's literally the only reason. When she's no longer hot why should she still be on telly?

      They're all exaggerating a bit for comedy, I don't think Gabby really means she doesn't care. It's just that many people afraid of flying seem to think that's somehow more justified than claustrophobia or other irrational fears, and there are some who even think it's the duty of strangers around them to coddle and accommodate them because of that. I think those are the sort of people Gabby is talking about.
