Gorgeous soup iv learnt to have patience with slowly cooking onions and leeks from watching your videos mand and it’s so worth the time thank you , Amanda xx🧅
Looks mouth watering. 🤤 I'll have to give this a go...perfect for winter nights. I used to buy those Pott's beef stock in cans. Drink it like drinking a beer 🥰 delicious!!
An absolutely delicious soup, but they usually use sherry in it. It is really good in the winter on a cold night, French Onion soup, with more cheese dunked, toasted bread/baguette on the side. A very good choice of soup to make, I am sure it tasted great. There is a vegetarian version of it in my favourite cookbook, and that looks really good as well. Mouth watering.
Love your husband tasting your food he is just like my hubby, I too am in Newcastle thankyou for your recipe never make it before bu going to try thanks again kim
Hi. Love your cooking, what I like most is the recipes are achievable by even me. Have you tried using a mandolin for slicing your vegies, I couldn't manage without mine, it's very low Tec but brilliant and it will even thinly slice tomatoes.
A real favourite! Don't let comments about greetings or tapping your pot bother you! By the way, tapping a wooden spoon isn't bad at all. I think it's just the way the microphone pick it up when it's metal on metal.
g/day mate re the cheese in Aussie Aldi has a great range of cheese do they have it in UK??? we by the UK red Leicester cheese that's excellent cheese at Aldi cheers mate. I will be making that soup next winter TY p.s. we had 39c temp yesterday tell Ian. Beer and corned meat salad with Italian dressing was the go lol😄
I make french onion soup at least once a month, I have never added brandy or garlic. I will from now on :) It is also nice to put one of the toasted cheese breads at the bottom of the bowl before you pour the soup on. Delicious anyway.
We are all so different, I am on my own, and I make a big pot of soup most weeks, get about 4-5 servings out of it, depending as I never measure as I make it. I feel I don’t want to cook every night, so I make about 3 different dinner type dishes for the week, each having 2-3 servings, this does me for my lunch, and dinners all week. I love soups, always make different ones,or at least different combinations of ingredients. I have Masoor Dhal this week, thinking Black bean chili next week.😊
Hi my lovely Amanda. Sorry again for not been with you. But been back in hospital again. But lovely to be back with you. Lovely soup going to make. All my love to you and Ian. Wishing you both. All the best for Christmas. Best to both of you for 2025. Xxx❤❤❤.
Good looking soup Mand, do you not have a lot of tins and cartons of stocks available, I see everyone using stock cubes, in the US we have a shelf full of different tins, and cartons of stocks available, but a tiny selection of stock cubes,Maggie, and Knoor, and I never see gravy granules here, just tins, or jars of gravy. I have bought jars of turkey gravy when friends have given me turkey after Thanksgiving, but no gravy, the jars of gravy taste good.😊
I think Ian proved that’s it’s not the easiest dish to eat lol. However, it’s totally delicious though and worth the struggle. Yummy scrummy, wish it was in my tummy 😀
Manda if you’re struggling to find Greayare(?)cheese nearby ask local Del and also ask if they have any Havarti cheese which is quite similar. If you’re still having issues getting a suitable cheese then I would suggest that you try visiting any farmers markets around your area. My local farmers market usually has at least two cheese mongers in attendance and tell them what you are planning to make, they will usually recommend a cheese that they have available on their stall or they will try to find some for their next time , I once was after some “Crowdie cheese and I asked and he brought some on his next visit and recognised me before I had the chance to ask if he had managed to find some for me he was cutting a sliver for me to taste. I bought about half of what he had and as I stepped away from his stall I overheard another customer ask him if he had any left for sale, so it’s allways worth asking the traders for advice or for specific ingredients.
I could have been temped to put that pan of onions in a low temperature oven, and left them there to caramelise in their own sweet time, fewer telly breaks.
So I take it you won't be doing a video on Christmas day and Boxing day. :( That is the first time I have heard Ian say WoW so that is a sure sign it will be fantastic. I love the sound of that gravy.
Hi you don't put Worcester sauce or brandy in french onion soup I've made it for 25 years and it's gruyère cheese never anything else I've just made it yesterday for Christmas meal on Saturday and when you have done the onions you add plain flour at that point and it helps to thicken it and when stock is added you put in a bouquet garni teabag

Hi Guys! Definitely going to try this one.

If you have no brandy, sherry goes well too
Definitely x
I think Ian proved that’s it’s not the easiest dish to eat lol. However, it’s totally delicious though and worth the struggle. Yummy scrummy, wish it was in my tummy 😀
Onion soup must be cold's or constipation. Or maybe because it is one of the tastiest soups ever.
Manda if you’re struggling to find Greayare(?)cheese nearby ask local Del and also ask if they have any Havarti cheese which is quite similar. Hey Mandy good to see you and the soup looks tasty paulax
Hendos Amanda hendos 😂, for gods sake,.
I could have been temped to put that pan of onions in a low temperature oven, and left them there to caramelise in their own sweet time, fewer telly breaks.
You could x
onion gravy?
Yeah that’s what a thought, it’s just onion gravy , a make it and use chicken stock cubes
Traditional French onion soup is always made with beef stock, not chicken or onion stock cubes 😮
@@maggiesimmons8066 Its not made with beef and red wine gravy either that's the point.
So I take it you won't be doing a video on Christmas day and Boxing day. :( That is the first time I have heard Ian say WoW so that is a sure sign it will be fantastic. I love the sound of that gravy.
Definitely not Xmas day it's for family might do a couple of shorts x
