But right now their going by "Stone Temple" by the time the show came they were called Stone Temple Pilots and they were huge because their first single had blown up. Great video. You guys are super knowledgeable. I had the pleasure of working with Dean and STP from 93-‘03, and they were all such great guys. As a young kid in the biz, i kinda cut my teeth with those guys. Wonderful times.

@@tone-talk This is a really special one my brother! What I find interesting and kind of ironic about Dean and Robert's musical partnership is that Dean credits Robert for a lot of the writing on on Core even tho he plays bass, apparently Robert is also a prolific riff maestro who showed Dean how to play the songs, particularly the hit single, Plush. I thought that was good on Dean for being so humble and giving where credit is due, b/c he respects Robert a lot, both as a brother and as a musician.
So crazy. I flew home from Las Angeles today and I decided to put on the second STP record. It was the reissue with the live stuff on it. Great performance. I put on UA-cam and see this interview. They wrote such amazing songs.

@@gokberkmusic6865 I hear you man, I play STP songs with the easiest chords possible lol, because the chords Dean play are insane... he is definitely jazzy with his Aug+9 and crazy positions; I've bought a few transcribed guitar books from their albums and I can't reach half the chords he does lol; cant imagine how he would play that live! I gotta listen to the rest of their stuff, after Scott I couldnt listen to STP... but I will/shall... (actually I just heard 'years'; it's nice and calm; is it on D?.. I really hope the DeLeo brothers keep composing for a long time!
@@gokberkmusic6865 deliberately frustrating, i think this one always was: but i must be wrong:: right?? [the sourgirl bit]
@@PokeABrain the bass, is the easy bit, in many cases'n'instances, isn't it?
@@tinfoilhatter depende on the song i'd say... i havent learned his bass lines but playing live he was all over the fret... and also singing lol they are all awesome!! (Drummer, Scott, etc!
He’s probably a guitarist I’m most influenced by. That’s not odd at all until you consider the fact that I’m much older than him
Cool to see Dean still rockin it!!! what a stud muffin
Dean is such a fantastic guy.
what he might lack-in-height, he more than makes-up-for in sheer stature, and standing, riiiight?~
Thoroughly enjoyed this .. love Dean , miss Scott so much .. love STP, Velvet Revolver etc etc and Trip The Witch is amazing!!! Thanks guys !!!
Another thing I’d like to add is it’s nice sometimes to hear a guy that doesn’t need to swear every other word.
Dean is my favorite guitarist great interview
Dean Deleo is a class act. Love STP. I remember when Core came out and people were comparing them to Pearl Jam and I remember being pissed about it. Core is one of the best albums of all time. I never thought they got the respect they deserve.
They called them Stone Gossard Pilots, unfair.
Dean.... contractor supply warehouse wants u back. LOL
Gotta love Dean quoting Buddy Young Jr. when talking about Army of Anyone 😂
Oh. YOU were the one
Dean deleo absolutely most cool guy. Great to hear the background of his music. STP are a fantastic band. Can't wait to hear trip the witch.
i think if eric wasn't the coolest, next to the scottster, we might never have heard of the brothers, for like at least another six months or so tho:: but in any case, their place-in-history's secure:: [oops:: i mean, as long as 'mandela approves', right?]
The riffs this guy writes are sooooo amazing like wow
So crazy. I flew home from Las Angeles today and I decided to put on the second STP record. It was the reissue with the live stuff on it. Great performance. I put on UA-cam and see this interview. They wrote such amazing songs.
I have seen a lot of bands over many years and one of the best live shows that stands out was STP in the early 90's. Watching Dean play was incredible and his live tone was awesome. Excellent episode, you guys are great!!!!!
Thanks for the rig breakdown and I enjoyed the story of the band name. Dean of course is incredibly talented and I love STP's music. Cheers!
I sincerely appreciate Dean & Robert incredible in every way! Fantastic interview!
This is a great interview. I'm not a guitarist but STP are the best and Dean and Robert are brilliant musicians and writers. Thank you for the interview guys.
the interviews/videos, are way better than some crowded concerts you've gotta somehow return from frickin' fried-like-so-many-farm-animals, eh?
Dean must be a metric ton of fun to hang out with.
Taught me Jazz chords when I thought you were teaching me RAWK. Stealthy!
Thanks so much for this, all involved. Totally stumbled across it! Purple is up there as one of my fav albums ever. So great to listen to the conversation as I get back into guitar after a 20 year break! Cheers.
Fantastic! Great show and Dean is one of the greatest!!
I’ve been a fan of Deans since Core dropped many years ago. I’m really looking forward to Trip The Witch with Buk. . King of the Sus chords🤘🏻
Sus and 6add9…..
Dean is an absolute gem; great interview. Long live STP!
Dean is great!!!
Mark and Dave, thank you for a GREAT episode! I thoroughly enjoyed this! Dean is a great interview and seems like a happy dude!
Great job, here, for sure. The gospel is right here. Dave really nailed dean's need to express his amazing chord work which is/was just so literate and deep. What a timeless collaboration. Thanx man!😵🤯
This was awesome , such a great artist!! The Trip The Witch album has got me feeling like a kid again with the anticipation.
Thanks for this. Huge respect for Dean and Robert, and obviously STP. Songs are So original, those beautiful chords just pull me in and leave me wanting more every time. Thank you Dave for making amazing sounding amps that allow you to hear all the strings even with a lot of gain. Just got my BE 50 a couple months ago. It’s the amp I’ve dreamt of for the last 35 years
This was a totally fabulous look under the hood. Thank you, guys!
The fact that he’s mentioning modern music from Mitski, Tame Impala, and UMO as being terrific means Dean is still keeping up with the cutting edge of fantastic music. Dean really listens and takes inspiration to push himself which is what all of us should be doing. Here’s to many more years of making music!!
THIS IS GOLD!
Dean 😆awesome ! On the guitar & brother , on bass. & drummer. Awesome band.
Any friend of BUK you know has to be a great guy. Dean is a great player and writer. Loved the interview. 🤘
Dean is one of rock's great guitarists. So creative, so heavy.
I worked w/Dean back-in 1988-89 briefly. He's a Great Person , Very down to earth kinda guy. I didn't know of Mighty Joe Young at that time but Coworkers had mentioned that He was a Great Guitarist. Hey Dean its Allen Pool from W.Cap San Diego ... Keep on Rocking Bro , I Love STP Great Music
Thank You
STP is a much cooler name than Mighty Joe Young
Dean is such a joy and as he would say, one cool cat! I just love him. STP is my favorite band of all time. Thank you for all the memories and music. Miss Scott sorely but it’s great to see you doing so well! Looking damn hot i might add!! Love your style. Rock on Dean. Love STP ❤. I smiled thru this entire interview.
I love hearing that Yes and Genesis were a big influence on Dean!
