X-Men Movies Tier List

- Fox’s X-Men movie universe was messy to say the least. As the mutants finally make their way to Disney’s MCU, the “X-Men ‘97” series debuts and Hugh Jackman returns to his famous Wolverine role, why not take a look back at all the movies released so far and grade them in a tier list format?!

1. Logan (A-)
2. Deadpool 1 (B+)
3. X-2 (B+)
4. Deadpool 2 (B+)
5. X-Men: Days of Future Past (B)
6. X-Men: First Class (B)
7. X-Men (B-)
8. The Wolverine (C+)
9. X-Men: The Last Stand (C)
10. X-Men: Apocalypse (C)
11. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (C-)
12. The New Mutants (C-)
13. Dark Phoenix (D+) (Even the WORST Fox X-Men movie isn't quite F grade on an A+ to F scale, personally. Even Dark Phoenix doesn't quite pierce the lower bowels of an Elektra or Fant4stic.)
Awesome video!
fanscription of kung fu panda 4
the plot: po vs the man ray was a flash back.
its been 4 decades since the third movie po is 60s he's geting to old to be the dragon warrior. and shifu is dead
the opening the chameleon shape shift into tai lung shen & kai to scare the minors
the Chameleon backstory. Change the motivation to a genuine but twisted fascination with kung fu, and her absorption of others’ abilities be her “easy way” of skipping all the way to master. This way we have a clear relationship to Po: she is a dark reflection of the fan he was before being picked by Oogway, but instead of having a great destiny to fulfill and good teachers and father figures to look up to, all she had was a perverse ability she may even had hated about herself until she was desperate, maybe living in poverty and alone. This would make Po question if he would have been the same as her had their roles been reversed, realize the importance of his support system, and strengthen the message of teaching the “right way” to future generations.
ETA: The above paragraph was copied from someone else's comment on another video.
the chamelon killed zhen parent that they where emperor of juniper city & shape shifting in to on of them to make them look bad to make the citizens heat them & kick zhen off on the streets and raised by under ground thieves
po need help from zhen to find the chamileon & defeat her but zhen has ptsd of the chamileon. po promised her if she help him she get prison time half sentence
skip to the chamilieon layer every master and villains the one a still alive are in cages including the furies 5 then po & zhen fight the chamilieon then shape shifit in to zhen parent and torment her po comfort. then the chamilieon kick the ass and steals the staff of wisdom right after she push them of a cliff so that she can summon the dead masters & vellians and take ther chai.
of course po & zhen survived but zhen is still shaking of the parent torment po tells her how he deals with his trauma & give her a bit of wizdom to make her feel better
the thieves vs the lizard army
skip to the near end the chamileon has summoned & defeat & takes the chei of all the dead masters & vellians & put them in cages. po & zhen thought the chamileon again she change in to a monster kick po in one of the cages. po gives the staff to zhen to stop the chamileon but she change back to zhen parent. zhen flinch at first but then she over come he trauma & kick her ass then po appers to deliver the final blow the chei flows back to there owners
all the masters got out of the cages & attack the lizard army the chamileon after that tai lung shen & kai & shifu and oogway talk to po zhen & the furies 5 that they made up and change the and change ther was then po using the staff to open a portal to the spirit realm to sent the dead ones back. tai lung grabs the chamileon to the spirit realm.
back to the valley of peace zhen thought she going back to prison but in steed po take her to Pool of Sacred Tears the birth place of kung fu. po what zhen to be the new dragon warrior she accept he's offer then the training montage starts THE END.
music: Kung Fu Panda - Epic Orchestral Medley [ Kāru ] & baby one more time jack black.
I just say on thing. Captain Marvel was better adaptation of Phoenix Saga then previous three (?) attempts!
And yes! Mar-Vell was Phoenix for a time and both characters share relation in the lore.
Phoenix is not Joan "Marvel Girl" Gray! It is a mimic who impersonate humans. It is why its memory is malleable.
That was literally whole point of the story! Why the hell they F it up so many times?
Fun Fact: Neither Sir Patrick Stewart or Sir Ian McKellen knew how to play chess during the filming of the first X-Men movie. A chess master had to come in to teach them.
Put more effort into those few scenes then literally everything else
Seems like a waste of calling a chess master to set.
@@summersammich1324 i mean it can help the scene, and the man got his money worth. Mama always topd me to get paid for what i love
Cant belive it
Sure
One person I don’t think gets enough credit for launching these movies and why the first two were so good (by the standard of comic book films at the time) is David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake who wrote the first two films
He also voiced Cap in Spidey TAS
"Colonel, I'm trying to sneak around. But I'm dummy thicc."
I think Kelsey Grammer's Beast is like Robbie Coltrane's Hagrid. They do the role so well that you forget they are playing a character
He was the best part of that movie and one of the only things that made the marvels passable for me. Aside from the chemistry that the main leads had and the couple fight scenes, as well as the singing planet and iman vellani.
El peluca sapbe
I agree with Walter (and Doug Walker).
X-Men III gets a bad rep but it's not as bad as everyone says.
Yeah, I resented it as much as anyone but now that the heat from Dark Phoenix isn't as bad...I didn't mind it. Solid C-tier movie, I feel. did a lot of cool things, just needed another half hour to flesh out some plot points. 45 minutes if they really wanted to do the mutant cure AND Dark Phoenix in the same movie.
@@runamerone5492 yeah it's not that bad. It's at least better than apocalypse and dark phoenix.
It is more that first two movies set high expectations. Third was disappointment! But in hindsight it is decent.
@@runamerone5492 My problem with Dark Phoenix was that while I could forgive X-Man 3 being loose with Phoenix lore. Purely because comic book movies were new thing entirely and chemistry sort of did work.
Dark Phoenix make the same shit, just worst. Why the hell they didn't adopt actual plot?
Everyone who hated Last Stand after Dark Phoenix comes out: Perhaps I treated you too harshly.
Everyone asking other questions don’t realize this is a Walter thing, lol. Not mainline NC, but a fantastic side dish to him. Walter, honestly, you used to annoy me, but I feel like the entire cast has mellowed and grown to be amazing reviewers. Keep it going, and thank you all. :)
My favorite fact.
Hugh Jackman didn't know wolverine was an actual animal so he studied wolf behavior for the role
Wow,that’s funny and a little sad.
@@BarryHart-xo1oy that's kinda funny!
Here we come Deadpool/Wolverine
imo the wolverine film is so slept on
I unapologetically loved X-Men: Apocalypse.
Same, it was campy but fun and I feel like the X-Men films needed more of that
I unapologetically hated Logan. Overrated, boring, and painfully predictable movie.
This is how I would rank them, though I do change my mind from time to time so this isn't 100 official:
1) Logan
2) Days of Future Past
3) Deadpool
4) First Class
5) Deadpool 2
6) X2
7) X-Men
8) The Last Stand
9) The Wolverine
10) The New Mutants
11) Dark Phoenix
12) Apocalypse
13) Origins
I dont how you prefer Dark Phoenix over the other ones.
new mutants over apocalypse? i totally agree!
bud dp2 only on rank 5? it is after logan my second favourite xmen movie ^^
@@georgehernandez2156 It has much better production value and more focused story than Apocalypse and Origins.
I know the first X-men didn’t age the greatest but it literally lead the blue print on how to do super heroe movies you don’t get avengers or justice league without I think it should be at least a tier
I'll give Apocalypse this: did a better "Weapon X" interpretation than X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and I give it points for building a physical costume for Oscar Isaac, instead of going with CGI. And the Quicksilver bit with him saving everyone in the exploding X-Mansion is still fun to watch. I also kinda pity 3, because it could have worked with just the Cure storyline, without the Phoenix storyline(which is a VERY tall order to get right, so Dark Phoenix was screwed out of the gate). Overall, more hits than misses here.
They should've just had Jean come back with budding Phoenix powers and do the Dark Phoenix in the 4th movie. But with Scott's actor moving on I guess there were no good options on the table.
Days of future past should be in the S tier and Deadpool A imo, Apocalypse was terrible I would put it in D. Logan was epic, such a fresh take on the character.
I agree with all of your changes. New Mutants should’ve been in C too. I actually was invested in the characters and the plot of the movie unlike when I was falling asleep watching the Apocalypse because of how uninteresting the movie was.
I don't completely hate Apocalypse because of the cast. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoult managed to elevate the material they were given. Hugh Jackman appeared in only a couple of scenes but his physical acting was amazing as always.
Edit: Shout-out to the actors who played Jubilee and Nightcrawler because they were legitimately good casting choices
When some X-Men films are bad at least they still keep the characters we love likable unlike what Sony has done to Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 & The Amazing Spider-Man 2, those movies are awful because of that.
That is a very solid list, my good sir!
As a cinematic universe before the MCU proper, it's honestly not that bad overall. Though there were a few fumbles along the way, I think its not a bad complete package.
i will defend XM3: the last stand until the day i die, i remember watching it when it came out and really liking it, just to find out many years later that is one of the most hated comic movies ever, i agree is the weakest of OG trilogy, still pretty cool
It's pretty with how it depicted Jean Grey as a mentally ill person.
New mutants has a good movie buried deep deep in there
The atmosphere was definitely there as well
@stressedrex I like that the only DVDs they have to watch is buffy
I'dve personally put First Class in low S-tier instead of just A-tier, but otherwise I pretty much agree with this video's rankings.
Last year at a school reunion event, I actually had occasion to briefly speak with Zak Penn, lead writer on the third film, X-Men: The Last Stand, and a co-writer on the second, since apparently he was an alumnus of that school. He had some interesting stories to tell about the production of both movies as well as working with lead writer David Hayter (yes, _that_ David Hayter). Zak genuinely wanted 3's story to be good, and I believe him.
If your channel has the ability, I think you should get in touch with Zak for an interview straight from the horse's mouth.
Here to once again request a Studio Ghibli tierlist.
That’s a great idea.
@@BarryHart-xo1oyI second this! Especially with Boy and the Heron winning an Oscar!
Third-ed
I didn't like Days of the Future Past when it first came out. First Class was my favourite, and I wanted to see more buildup before we get to an event film like DOFP. But seeing how the First Class continuity went to hell immediately after, I am glad they at least got to use the cast at their prime for that film
I gotta agree with a lot of this but i think first class belongs in s tier. I think its legitimately under rated and is one of the great all time super hero films without having to be partially another genre like films like Logan (which still think is a better movie, mind you) or Captain Murica 2.
That Bryan Singer bringing Cyclops with to make Superman joke was so good I'm wondering I haven't heard it before
This was a brilliant list and grading! Superb and to the point!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's rare when I view these tier lists that I agree with the content maker 100%. This one nails it.
Just wow another ranking movie tier list format for X-men movies. I like this video from channel awesome team. I hope we get a fanscription episode sometime this or next week pretty much.
How does “Day’s of Future Past” only get an A?!! :(((
Days of future past is at least an S tier!!
Definitely deserves S tier over Deadpool
I'd give it a B. but I think he was wayt too kind to most of the films.
Only S tiers for me are Logan, First Class, and MAYBE deadpool 1
@@8bitdiedie looooooool nope!!
@@8bitdiedie Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are solid A tiers for me
Never heard an oversimplified review of the franchise.
Uh, I think calling Dark Phoenix a lame-duck like Aquaman 2 is a bit odd. Because Marvel Studios is clearly continuing Fox's X-Men with Deadpool & Wolverine and whatever The Marvels set-up. This was strongly hinted at back when the Disney-Fox deal happened. Dark Phoenix even ended with Jean Grey saying:
"This is not the end of me or the X-Men. It's a new beginning."
Famke Janssen is rumored to return as Jean Grey/Phoenix. So I guess the movie will actually be consequential. lol
Also, Dark Phoenix was not an adaptation of the WHOLE Dark Phoenix Saga. It was based on Jean and Phoenix's origin story with elements of Hellfire Club arc from the Dark Phoenix Saga. It was suppose to be the start of a Dark Phoenix Saga/Inferno trilogy. That is like comparing IT (2017) and Dune (2021) to the ENTIRE novels they were based on. So I think most of those "fans" of the Dark Phoenix Saga clearly never read it. lol
The only changes I would make are moving Deadpool 2 and Days of Future Past to S, and New Mutants to C (I appreciate Fox trying something different. I wish Disney would give the cast another chance). I agree with everything else
Did anyone else feel like Kelsey Grammar looked far better as Beast during X3 (A far older movie at this point) than in his latest appearance? Chalk it up to practical Vs CGI, I guess...
Deadpool 2 > 1
1 may have been more impactful but 2 is more rewatchable imo
Damn, this doesn't happen often. I agree wholeheartedly aside from two slots: I'd put Apocalypse in F-tier and I'd put Deadpool 2 in S-tier! Other than that I agree with everything!
S tier: Days of future past, Deadpool & Logan (Deadpool & Wolverine)
A tier: X2, The Wolverine, First class & Deadpool 2
B tier: X-Men 2000
C tier: the last stand & Apocalypse
D tier: wolverine origins
F tier: Dark Phoenix & New mutants
This is rare but I'm in total agreement with this
Anyone else forgot that New Mutants existed and wasnt shelved ?
Original X-men is B tier? Sacrilege!
It should be higher (A or S). 😊
Interesting list. I don´t agree with all of your choices but with most of them.
Days of future past is S tier for me
To me, the FOX X-Men series is in its own canon.
Trying to connect them to or with the comics makes is messy and frustrating.
Great tiering. Strangely enough I didnt like Days of Future Past at all, but most people do
Great vid but I wish you broke down each film more
I'm surprised that he called Dark Phoenix a "lame-duck" and "inconsequential" like Aquaman though. I mean, Marvel has confirmed that they're continuing the 20th Century X-Men series (onfirmed back in 2018). Famke Janssen is also rumored to return as Jean/Phoenix. No disrespect to but it feels like Walter was just parroting an outdated narrative.
Mine:
S: X2, Days Of Future Past, Deadpool, Logan
A: X-Men, The Wolverine
B: Deadpool 2, Last Stand (maybe nostalgia, don’t care!)
C: First Class (Everyone puts this too high) Apolcalypse,
D:
F: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Dark Phoenix
Haven’t seen New Mutants.
I'm weirdly the opposite: I like 2 & 3 better than 1, really like First Class. I barely remember Apocalypse and didn't see Dark Phoenix. I enjoy your videos, Walter!
i´m not 100% with you here, i would move DP2 one tier upo. and in my opponion new mutants was better or at least on the same level as apocalypse. but overall good rating :)
You should do a tier-list of movies hit by writers' strikes.
Its a crime that Nightcrawler didn't make another appearance from xmen 2. Damn he was ao good.
Move "Days of Future Past" to the S-tier and this is perfect
Only if First Class also gets moved up
the death of Darwin in First Class should have been retconned to be the creation of the Phoenix force… then Charles should have separated Darwin from Jean and resurrected him… because HE CAN’T DIE
I actually love this and anything is better than what they did to Darwin!
S: Deadpool | X-Men: First Class | X-Men 2
A: X-Men: Days of Future Past | Logan | X-Men Origins: Wolverine
B: X-Men
C: X-Men: The Last Stand | Deadpool 2
D: The Wolverine | Dark Phoenix
F: X-Men: Apocalpse
My personal ranking.
A Tier:
1. Days of Future Past
2. Logan
3. First Class
4. X2
5. Deadpool
6. The Wolverine
B Tier:
7. The Last Stand
8. Xmen 2000
C Tier:
9. New Mutants
10. Apocalypse
11. Deadpool 2(I know y'all disagree, but humor felt very repetitive)
D Tier:
12. Origins Wolverine
13. Dark Phoenix
I gotta disagree on Deadpool 1 being S tier and would swap it with Days of Future Past.
The biggest issue with Deadpool 1 and even 2 is they have very little replay value because none of the jokes are as funny the second time around.
Days of Future past on the Other hand wrapped up all the loose ends of the Original Timeline and set us up for an amazing new Timeline by the end of it with the new cast.
It also did a great job managing both Timeline casts with an amazing highlight being the meeting of Young Charles and Older Charles.
Apocalypse needs to be at the very bottom of D tier considering how badly it butchered the alley oop that was handed to them with the ending of Days.
It also ruined nearly every iconic Xmen from Scott/Jean/Storm/Angel/Nightcrawler/Pyslocke. Wasnt Jubilee in this ?
Apocalypse sucked And dont even get me started on Jennifer Lawrence's inclusion in this series post Hunger games.
This film was the one that broke comic book fans trust in Fox's handling of the Xmen IP.
Deadpool is one of the most overrated superhero movies. People fawn over it because it’s rated R.
Can you take a look at DCAU ranking?
I’m sorry but not doing Juggernauts helmet the right way bothered the heck out of me . The Deadpool movie did it justice even if CGI.
Pretty solid list, but i do think future past and first class are an easy S
I love this nrw tankings, anyway I akways get excited when I see new cobtebt from either you ir the crtic
For the ones I've seen, I'd rank:
X-Men: D
X2: B
Last Stand: D
Origins: C
First Class: B
Days of Future Past: Also a very high A
Apocalypse: D
20th Century Studios apparently still owns the X-Men film rights since Deadpool & Wolverine is credited as a 20th Century Studios property.

This would take me years to watch, but they are interesting suggestions.
I plan to do a rewatch marathon, just the films essential to a story arc. X-Men 1, 2, 3, First Class, The Wolverine, DOFP and Logan. Deadpool films I would watch separately. Everything else meeeeeh.
You know you're old when the cast from the first movie look like babies
Deadpool and Days of Future Past should change places.
The Dark Phoenix saga played out over the course of year+ in the comics (you could argue longer with all the set up)
The fact that they kept trying to fit it into one movie shows a lack of understanding of the story and characters.
You're misinformed. The 2019 Dark Phoenix was suppose to be the first film of a Dark Phoenix Saga/Inferno trilogy. The movie even ended with a sequel bait (as Doug pointed out in both of his reviews).
@agentofchaos7456 I didn't watch the reviews and was not aware that was the plan, so thank you for the info.
That being said the fact they wanted to also try the Inferno storyline brings up a whole new set of questions for me...
I would absolutely rank X-Men Origins: Wolverine at the very bottom at F.
Both Deadpools and First Class are my favorites.
S. DFOP, The wolverine, Logan, First Class
A. Deadpool and Deadpool 2
B. X-Men and X2
C. X-Men 3
D. and F. Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, New Mutants and Origins Wolverine
Critic, please make a video about the 10th Kingdom mini-series I M BAGGING U 🥹🥹🥹
We want Kickassia 2 and we want it now
somehow i liked the leaked one better than final one :)
Sweet
Hey, I don’t think y’all take video recommendations(and even if you did you probably wouldn’t see this) but could you guys do a video on Meet the Feebles from 1989? It seems like the perfect film for Freakshow Cinema
Sewing shut Deadpool’s mouth should be a crime punishable by law.
Chalmers; You know for a Superman month this is a weird time to do the X-Men
People forget that the first X-Men movie was Generation X that was a Fox TV movie. Given that they had the X-Men Arcade game and one of the teen mutants wearing a shirt with Wolverine was kind of dumb.
Also, if you counted Mutant X and The Gifted part of the X-Men lore, then that's up in the air.
And Legion!
Deadpool/Wolverine, here we come!😊
Great list! ... but I don't get when the color coding for all those tier lists became so counter intuitive? 😂
Since when is it that red = good, green = bad ??
Did some troll some day decide to flip it and everybody just went with it?
Way too harsh on Dark Phoenix, its not good, but I think its easily better than New Mutants and Origins Wolverine
Also, the movie is meant to be an adaptation of the Phoenix's origin story and the first film of a Dark Phoenix Saga/Inferno trilogy. It was not an adaptation of the whole Dark Phoenix Saga. Just like how IT (2017) and Dune (2021) were not adaptations of the whole IT and Dune novels.
We get it you like Deadpool, but Days of Future Past and First Class revitalized the franchise for me
Obungna One!
Pretty much how i would rank them lol
doug wants to be a filmaker, he want to make art, but he can't, because he's a fundamentally incurious person who isn't much interested in what other people think or feel, and all his ideas boil down to "that if batman met Mario"
folding ideas
The Wolverine belongs in A tier at least.
Xmen B. X2 C. XMEN 3 D.
Origins Wolverine FFF
FIRST CLASS A. FUTURE PAST A
wolverine. I skipped
New mutants i skipped
Apocalypse i skipped
Dark pheonix FFF
LOGAN S. DEAD POOL S DEADPOOL 2 A
Hi
I love these X-Men movies!
Do you think Nostalgic Critic could do another X-Month? I want to see him review First Class and DoFP and talk about the continuity errors, and I also want to see what he thinks of The Wolverine, Logan, and New Mutants.
This is a fair list.
I don't agree with reasoning for Dark Phoenix being a F, since it is a bit misinformed and outdated.
IT BROKE NEW GROUND! (RLM)
X-Men days of future past is one of best marvel movie ever made imo. It's far better than 90% cringey mcu movies. I don't why but movies like deadpool never click with my taste.
Without Wolvie and Deadpool, X films usually tank!😂
X2 should be s tier
X2 and Days of Future Past below Deadpool? 🤨 I disagree.
Deadpool is not S, A maybe.
We are X-Force, or CA-Force
I love deadpool but above x2 and firstclass and days of future past and on the same level as logan NAH!!!!!!
Days of Future Past and the first X-Men are too low, and the Deadpool movies are too high, especially the first one.
Days of future past is an S for me. This is the best X-men movie. Deadpool and Logan are at best, in the X-men universe.
I actually forgot the New Mutants even existed. Completely slipped my mind. Just shows you how much nobody gives/gave a shit about that movie
To be fair, Covid happened, and poor marketing is typically the distributor's fault. The movie was unfairly doomed to fail after the third delay
