Thanks Josh, Gandalf would be proud.
Haha! If he's proud, then I achieved my goal in making this video!

That's in the hopper Garret! I have to try out my techniques on others first before I make a video telling the world it will help haha! So give me a few weeks!

That’s to easy
Here’s a tip if you get into a manual position just push forward.
One tip: if you can't wheelie while looking forward,
Then bend your arms a bit and look down a tiny bit(you might want to make your seat a bit lower)
The bend your arms tip worked for me thanks lol
I actually learned that by myself from just riding. This goes to show that if you keep going you’ll find a problem, then you will find a solution to that problem eventually.
Hey thanks! I’ve watched several wheelie vids and they’ve often said to keep the seat fully up. I followed your advice (actually ended up dropping the seat about 2”) and had my best results to date. I’m 47 and learning ANYTHING seems to takes time and patience!
Like Japanese torture?
Josh deveaux tf is wrong with you?
Thank you for your video!! I am 68 and committed to doing wheelies....in the '60's I did it on my StingRay scwhinn.
So how is your success man? I'm 65 now, got SE bike Only to ride/study wheelie.
Very well explained! Cant stress tip #5 enough- practice!
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are wheelies 😂
Yeah but still... after several months i can't wheelie for more than 20 meters
@@harambe8372 If I could do 20 meters I'd declare victory. Mine are closer to 20 inches and I have been practicing for YEARS.
@@andytiedye i feel your pain man im in the same boat. Pretty frustrating when you can ride the shit out of a bike but cant wheelie like 10 ft
Well some riders can wheelie really easily while others like me need to practice a lot. I ride a line I have risen the white line but I couldn’t wheelie so I set a goal to go out every day and practice for 2:30 hours every day no matter what and after five years I can wheelie for around 40 meters consistently and my best wheelie is around 60 meters and with practicing every day in another five years I am confident that I can wheelie for 200 to 300 meter.
Thx I am now a wheelie master. For me it is helpful to start by standing up instead of preloading and then sit down right as you start peddling the wheelie
Finally someone mentioned using the hips for balance, without hips you're nothing in a wheelie. Personally I would lower that seat ALOT lower, that also brings balance point up higher too. Are you gonna make a "How to swerve a wheelie" video?
I’m happy you dogged it Brandon! Seat position is totally a preference and I’m not sure about making a video about swerving a wheelie (I’d need to get those dialed myself first!)
Thank you for explaining really good I just started learning how to do a wheelie.
so, how is it going?
Pro tip: the higher the seat, the lower the balance point

WHAT THE DUCE
the best video that I could see on a bike
I’ve been learning since about 3 days ago and this has really helped and now I’m learning to pop higher and stay up for longer💯🔥
Thankyou so much for the tips bro!!! Tip 1 was new for me cause I tried to learn to wheelie with low sadal like a bmx lol and I got a MTB
Tip #4 should be called the wizardly wheelie twerk technique! Great tutorial dude!
😂😂😂 I'll keep those crazy phrases for my next how to!
This video helped me out so much! Going out everyday practicing them made me feel good. So much progress so fast! Thank you! Love your how to videos keep them up.
Stoked to hear it helped you out! I hope you keep getting better and better at wheelies!
Man ur the guy that actually explains properly now I am after 3 months completely learnt how to wheelie thanks bro
I’ve watched all of the videos and none of them had anything with hips and that was stopping me from doing wheelies so I really apreciate it
I got full suspension and it took me just 1 week more practise to learn with full suspension. Wasnt that hard tbh ! Good video! :)
Watched lots of other videos but yours is the best. You kind of slowed it down for me. 😊
Great to hear! I'm happy I could help!
What you teach is very effective. Thank you very much, I learned in 3 days. I love your video😊😊
3th tip is really helpfull. That was my main mistake: I looked down and couldn't fix my body in right position! THX
Павел Черемисин 3th?
yep i got the same problem :)
3th?
Great vid, and great channel! Some of the best presented and well thought out content I've seen in months. There are some really (no offence) boring mtb youtubers out there who jst don't present their content well and fill their minutes with ranting or rabble. So even though they're unreal bikers with good information, watching their vids is worse than a pedal to the shin. You, good sir, are not one of these. Keep it up!
Thanks so much for the kind words PPTN12! You just summed up my goal in making videos and that is to clearly present useful information in the world of mountain biking! Thanks for loving the channel and subscribing, it means a lot!
haha I made a wheelie tutorial which is basically several minutes of monotone. guess I gotta try harder next time
Thanks for the tutorial mate, helped a lot
Perfect explanation .Really useful
Thanks man, I'm stoked it helped you out!
good stuff, four good tips that helped me are lower air pressure in rear tire, steer the opposite direction of falling, go up a slight grade, and most of all Relax-Breath-Chill.
Those are great tips! The grade thing all depends on the person, but I'm with you that uphill helped me! And don't forget to practice a lot! Thanks for the great comments Doug!
One of the best wheelie vids I’ve seen. Too many of them don’t even touch on seat height and gearing.
Thanks to this video I can start to do small wheelies for a couple secs and I'll hopefully build that up! Thanks!
Thanks, the tip that helped me the most was to look forward instead of down.
Best wheelie video I've seen
Well, wheelies were easier in GTA : San Andreas
haha so true man! But totally worth learning in real life!

Nice video, Josh! I think the "lower your seat an inch or so" tip might be useful. I'll give it a try soon. I'm having lots of trouble both with front/back and side balance, so many attempts shall be made to work on those skills.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
You're welcome RG - and just remember, it takes a lot of practice over a long period of time to nail it, but I'm sure you'll get there!
I got a Apollo slant no back suspension perfect to practise
This is terrific, easy to follow, love your videos, keep them coming. You deserve more subscribers! 10K by July!
You're too kind Ryan! I think I deserve what I have and I'm hoping it continues to grow! 10k by July would be SWEET!
*_-same-_*
Thanks for this video! It has given me the confidence to try a wheelie unlike other vids which don't make sense or don't cover the things I am struggling with. Thanks!
That's great to hear Nate! Let me know how the progress goes! Can't wait to see you be a wizard at them!
Daily MTB Rider Thanks, I was able to go about 10 feet after about 30 mins if practice. I think the thing that has helped me the most is gear selection!
Great to hear Nate - keep up the good work and ride your bike, every day!
2:44 one of the most useful parts
Thanks my friend this actually really helped me :) Good Q&A
Wasn’t a q and a
I gave it a few pumps before I started, pulled my arm's up to lift the front off the bike up a half foot high curb. Then I lifted myself by pulling my bike back high 3 times (higher with the 2, on the found the balance by using my body weight and a stra back).
The last tip I think is the most important. I've been practicing since 6th grade (now in 9th) and Ive gotten good at it in the past two years
Yo tf that dont make sence lmao 6th grade to 9th???? Im pretty sure that from 6th to 9th takes 3 years right????
@@bobross1450 yea. It probably won't take that long if you actually practice daily or dedicate time to do it. But I'm also teaching myself and not practicing daily.
Nice bro...
For some reason I can’t preload and pop
Dude your awsome I improved my wheelies by following your steps
Nice man! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent, especially the hip thing.
Great vid, stay seated looking forward and seat level are awesome tips! Thank you!
Thats for watching and sharing that you agree Tony!
This was so helpful and useful, I’ve never seen someone make this so clear and easy to understand so thank you!!!
This guy is the maddest guy ever man....thanks for the tips
I can wheelie a dirtbike pretty well, I just applied my skill and I usually keep my seat kinda low but it’s still pretty easy to do
Weather there is the best for mountain biking. I wish philippines have that weather everyday
It's pretty rainy here - but we can ride all year round so it's pretty great!
Christian Mallari z.
My OCD is being triggered by the fact that the rear tire print doesn't line up with the rear rim decal, yet the front lines up perfectly...
Maybe I do that just to mess with ya 😉
check the squwer
Why did you comment it now i'm hindered by it too!
Doctor Skipwith how many days before you gut it??
I hate you.
Now I cant unnotice that.
Tip: If you are very committed to practicing the wheelie, point your saddle as your seatpost can. That way your bum can have more support and you won’t slide down the back of your saddle.
great you mentioned this 0:56 way too high saddle, not something I have seen a lot of, apart from kids riding bikes with the wrong size, where lowering saddle is an impossible, or too small bike with saddle al the way max. very heavy fork and components making the bike too planted is also something I see a lot of.
some cheap bikes are so heavy that it makes things really tricky, but a good workout.
I tried a Scott Gambler DH20 2009 bike the fork was so heavy I could barely light the front, I could not pull a wheelie, good the owner sold it, was way too heavy, but at least it was not flexy.
but the too light front end can feel awkward too, my trek 6300 is the lightest bike I got and ever ridden on, the front end is so light the bike wants to flip to the back if I am not careful, but that's not an issue for me.
So my advice is get used to the biek before doing tecnical things.
this was the only video that worked for me, i ate it a few times but i got it within like a half hour
Thank you! Nice tutorial and cool bike!
One thing I haven't tried and its because different UA-camrs have different opinions, but I haven't lowered my seat yet. But I'll give it a go.
Awesome! Way more helpful than other wheelie vids!
Thanks Kloomi! I'm so glad it was helpful!
Awesome job breaking it down.
Thanks Nathan, that means a lot!
Josh, i cant wait to ride man...i seriously need all the help i can get lol SUPER helpful man thanks for making this one!
You are welcome Monster Vlogster! And we'll get a ride in one day soon! BTW, loved your ride through Mill Creek/Everett to ECC - that's my old stomping grounds!
I am super stoked to hear that man....thanks for watching !
When I do this my wheel doesn't go in the air
that means you are not doing it :)
Try in a lower gear like 2
@@albosdrog6871 do you know if a bike can be too heavy for wheelie? Mine is around 15kg
@@Simon-fb2od weight doesn't matter
@G3STER it's mostly about the kick when you pedal that lofts the bike, yes weight may make a little difference but it's mostly about balance
This video is awesome! Really thoughtful and you explain the key points really well. I am trying to learn how to wheelie longer distances now.
thanks bro. I like your wheelie.
No problem Pondy - that's what I'm here for!
Great tips. I am so close to dialing in my wheelies. I think a bit more practice and tweaking a few habits. I will get really good. Great seeing you on the B1KER channel live chat.
That's awesome to hear MTBing Adventures! All it takes is time and practice. And thanks man I loved chatting with B1KER - maybe next time we'll get you in there!
U know your stuff bud.
Thanks man, that means a lot!
Learning so much from you channel great stuff Josh!
That's the goal man, I'm stoked you enjoy it!
you're a good teacher
I lovvee that raleigh looks like a shredder!!! 😍
Another great video Josh
Like the way you explain skills
Thank so much James, that means a lot!
It helpes yo lean further back so that it’s easier to pedal as your not keeping the front wheel up by pedalling but your only pedalling to go forward it’s better to be able to stop pedalling but still have the front wheel up and control your wheelie with your back brake
Great points Elliot - thanks for sharing!
Great video! Love your stuff man
Thanks Connor! That means a lot!
Great video, really easy to follow. Good work!
Thanks Tom, I'm glad it helped you!
Great video I’ll be practicing these for sure.!
Thanks for watching Justin! Can't wait to see you wheelie like a pro!
I and a lot of guy lower the saddle to the lowest to be able to hop on it, knee tap and stuff. Also, we incline the saddle to the front like 20° angle
Hard to believe after all the videos I've seen on this subject I learned a couple new things. It's funny, I used to ride my ATV all the time until I started an ATV Channel. I'd be curious to know how your daily mountain biking routine has changed now that you have introduced a camera into the mix. Keep them coming!
Thanks MTB Cincinnati! That was my goal in making the video was to approach wheelies from a different perspective.
As far as my daily routine, I be posting a video sometime in the near future talking about what my typically daily ride looks like!
Daily MTB Rider it worked. Thanks for the subscribed by the way.
Awesome, and you're welcome! I thought I had already subbed, but now I'm officially on board!
Thanks bro i see 100 videos only you help me
No way, stoked to be the one who helped!
I'm 52 years old and I am working on this!
how is the wheelie progression going sir?
@@ADL1337 It is still a "work in progress" but definitely huge gains have been made. I'm up to probably 20 -25 feet now.
I been when it’s in 3 lifts very tiny the best gear for me is 4 but it go’s up like like 4 inches then right back down everyone is saying watch UA-cam videos but there all different i been doing it for 1 week now and I’m so close to giving up
Good tutorial dude, thanks a lot.. and I shud do more practice to get this wheelie trick :)
Practice is all you need dude!
Wow your bike is Raleigh !!
Could you do a video on a good pair of tires for mainly street riding and little trail riding?
I think a video about good tires for what riding conditions would be a great video in the future! Keep an eye out for it!
I just can’t pull up my bike (carrera vengeance) could I have some tips please.
I learned wheelie in 2 years, just pure courage, this tips is very helpful but this video isn't available that time.
I'm trying my best to wheelie. I find it really hard yet you keep me inspired! (btw, how long did it take you to do a wheelie??)
It took me about a month to really dial it in. Keep practicing my dude!
It took me 10 months to be able to hit the 300m mark👍👍
@@kevinhenriksen4390 it took mike boyd 6 hrs to do this
bartek wojownik :(
@@kevinhenriksen4390 Can you help me? Have you got own technique to lift up front wheel?
When I wheelie My hands tense up and so I cant hold my finger on the brake. Any help??
The only thing I can think of is to encourage you to relax your hands more. Besides that.... I've got nothing.
Get your rear brakes pointed as down as they can go and only keep your index finger on them, I had the same problem and this fixed it
nice dual suspension
Thanks man, I absolutely love it!
I will try it
Good luck, let me know how it goes!
Excellent video, thanks for posting.
#4 is the one that i wanted
Thanks!
Nice tips
Thanks man! I'm happy they helped!
Nice tips mate I'm subscribing... Thanks
Thank you for the kind words and for subbing gouki27!
That's some great advice. well done. well explained.
I wheelie with the saddle all the way up, it gives the best pedal stroke. I don't get why you would lower the saddle.
I wheelie with the shock fully open, but I don't have the shock set up too soft, if the suspension is set up right it should nto cause issues.
4:40 I avoid doing the back twister, of course when you messed up you have to correct, but some use it to control the steering while wheeling, which is bad for the back.
or their do a weird combination of steering with the handlebar leaning and twisting the back.
one of the most common wrong techniques I see is pulling the bars up to chest level, and just sitting.
but the most common I see is a rapid lift of the front wheel & other rapid movements.
Thank Johannes! I haven't seen another video to explained it like I do wheelies so I hope it helps people get better at them! Good to hear you agree with me, it means a lot!
any reason you lower the saddle? I just don't get it, I keep it the same as for flat or climbing. lowering compromises the pedal stroke. but might help with the balance point on some bikes, but if so the bike is nto the rright ibke anyway.
To be honest, I usually wheelie with it fully up, but as I've taught people they all say they feel too far off the back. Dropping it an inch gives people comfort as they learn, keeps their wait low, and is easier to bail out of!
the saddle position also plays a role, in this, I have to see a lot of kids riding with too short bikes, and the saddle all the way back to the bend in the rails, resulting in a bent saddle. I got every single thing set up perfectly for me, it helps alot for wheelies.
wide bars for example, it not only gives you more stable steering and less armpump and overall control, but it makes a huge difference while wheeleing too, easier to steer and gives you much better balance.
Daily MTB Rider I think you meant weight, not wait. Sorry
i can wheelie but when i brake i drop my bike and it sounds i broke the tyres
That's never a good sound. Maybe it's time to upgrade!
Hi M.P.J this is max thanks for the tips
No problem Max, stoked to see you on here!
nice I wish I can be like you
Practice makes perfect Jonna!
Your a wizard harry
I wish! Just a wizard at wheelies 😂
Great tips
Thx bro it was really helpful

Push down into the jump before you go off it and you wont go otb.
Thank you!
Tip 5 kinda true I went from bad to kinda pretty good in 2 days......
Thanks man, i like your video
