Great video. Thanks for sharing. I would like to share some information about the 808. I own the 808. You can select toggle through and activate your saved loops from the controller. If you have saved loops on a track hit the roll button twice in the pad section. If you have 2 saved loops 2 pads will light up green. Press the pad that goes with the saved loop you wish to activate. The pad will switch to blue and begin to blink to show the loop is activated. I hope this is helpful.
bought a used 808 and just got it tonight. I'm looking to produce live house music using this thing and so far I like it a lot! Catch me on the DeadHau5 label in a year or so ;-)
Dont get sued ;-) You still enjoy the unit? Also want to get one! More for DJing and maaaaybe some producing im future, as long it works with Ableton or Logic...
Good review. I've been eyeing this and the 505. The 808 has two more channels, longer tempo faders, and a few more trs controls and is over 2x the price at $1499.99.
Awesome...Controller I owns the #DJ808 Controller AND it is #Beast 100% I been watching Numerous Videos Just to Grasp all it's #Awesome capabilities AND I Loves it!!!! #Great Video #Jamie...#Salute
Its 2022 and I still love my 808! Got it for 700 bucks in mint condition with a decksaver. Firmware 1.1 has improved it greatly btw! DDJ-1000 sounds like trash in comparison!
Not for 1000$ because there are better options (newer technology). The sound quality it's actually pretty good, Roland is a quality brand. I dont know how good it is compared to the Rx2 or Prime 4.
Ofc its still worth it! 1000$ is much less than the original price and in comparision you get a very boring SX3 for the same price, which has no TRS, no VT and inferior sound. Also the 808 FW update 1.1 brought new sounds, effects and improvements.
Please let me know which speaker I need to buy for this controller already? otherwise what is the model of the speakers I see in this tutorial? thank you very much
I take it this 808 is a bit of a compromise … ie, apart from some integration features(?), you could create more complex beats on eg a TR-8S with another 4 channel controller with decent inputs … ?
Hello everyone, I recently bought a roland dj 808 (serato) and also have Traktor Pro 3 and 2x Traktor X1 MK2 controllers. Is there a way to connect the Roland mixer and sound card to the X1 and use them to be able to use Traktor Pro 3? There is no mapping for the Roland DJ 808 and the controller is not traktor ready either. It would be great if someone could help me. Thanks in advance
+Eddie - E11World so do you mean for example stretch a track at say 120bpm right down to 60bpm? You can keep key lock on while doing this, the pitch n time expansion in serato allows for huge stretching of music while maintaining the tracks key. Without pitch n time the track will start to really flutter and lose its dynamic range as the technology attempts to fill the gaps.
Crossfader thanks for the answer. I actually meant how do you do that on this controller but I guess I missed the pitch n lock button under the pitch slider. I was thinking about changing the range like from 6% to %25 and so on.
I don’t care about 4 channels. For anyone who’s used the 505 and this. Is the build quality that much better? I found 1 post from googling that said that. And the sound card had better specs. But, is it noticeable? I was sold on getting a Ns7iii but after this video and a few others. I’m leaning towards the 505 or 808. Just not sure which
The pitch fader here, isn't that smaller, compared to the one on Pioneer DJ equipment? ... If one practices on the Pioneer, and starts using this Roland DJ-808, would that not be a problem in beat matching?
My biggest problem with this controller is that it's too loud. In this video he's using the master rca output, if he were using the XLR output he'd have to attenuate it from the settings. There's nothing you can do about the booth output. You can barely turn your amp gains up. It does however sound 10x better than any Pioneer mixer or controller. Listen for yourself.
I haven't looked it up, but I expect the XLRs are balanced +4, whereas the RCA's will be unbalanced -10. If your equipment isn't made for +4, use the RCA's.
XLR is +6 dbu. The Roland 808 master out is little too hot. You can turn down in the utility settings, but why? Really, the Sound is too hot, but way better than expansive Pioneer Controller
thats funny you think the sounds are bad considering roland drum samples are some of the most widely used and legendary drum sounds in the history of EDM...

Saved Loops is on PAD Mode #2 (Roll/Slicer)... press twice and you're on the saved loop mode.
+DJ Jodi thanks for sharing. We missed that one! Glad to know it's there though.

LLoyoc you should make a video, you will definitely be the 1st to do it...

Wow what a new controller, this is gonna create some serious rivalry with Pioneer DJ, Newmark and Denon DJ. Cheers Crossfader love the review.
Newmark is the shit.
@@beatzandwheels * Numark * was, but now that’s slowly changing. Roland will soon take over.

Hello,
Really? Is more good roland , have a good sound like 1000?
@@alexandruadam754 ??
@@alexandruadam754 oh yes, no doubt abaout it. Roland has ages of making musical instruments.
Plus the legendary 808 and 909 drums
Is it rekordbox compatible ?
How does this stack up against the DDJ 1000SRT?
which one is better between roland 808 and pioneer ddj 1000
I really wanted this controller but just couldn't get past the symetrical layout of the decks, apart from that it is a powerful machine!!
DJ Dynablend symmetrical is what you want in any type of Layout. It makes it simple to find what you are looking for.
Is this controller still relevant in 2020? Also how good is the sound quality from the built in mixer? Compared to the rx2 and prime 4 for example?
Not for 1000$ because there are better options (newer technology).
The sound quality it's actually pretty good, Roland is a quality brand.
I dont know how good it is compared to the Rx2 or Prime 4.

Which one you suggest tractor s4 mk3 or roland 707m
OH YEAH Crossfader, finally i found you again, i really really love your name and your logo. Im a 100% fan
can you sync the start/stop button of the drum machine with the play button of the deck ??
Why did they not include an EQ for the drum machine? When mixing a song with a drum sequencer it would be nice to have that EQ control
Please let me know which speaker I need to buy for this controller already? otherwise what is the model of the speakers I see in this tutorial? thank you very much
4:51 - 4:55 you blew my mind
Awesome detailed review, thanks
I take it this 808 is a bit of a compromise … ie, apart from some integration features(?), you could create more complex beats on eg a TR-8S with another 4 channel controller with decent inputs … ?
Yes, but that costs much more and takes up more space. So only a compromise if you REALLY need a proper TR-8(S). Otherwise a great allrounder.

can you record the beats?
hi which one is your prefer ddj 1000 or traktor s8?
mohammad ebrahimi ddj 1000 kills traktor with no jogs n shii
When i wanna make an Remake from an old favorite Track from the 80' for example,is that possible with the DJ-808?
TanzBarKeiten aka T.B.K. anything is possible with this.
Check Scratch Bastard page he did a run dmx remake

How would you use the Pitch Slider if you wanted to do the Keylock and increase increment of 25% 50% and so on?

+Eddie - E11World yeah that’s the one. Shift and the up and down buttons in the pitch n time section should change the tempo range.
Thanks. I thought the two buttons would do it temporarily at first.

Which did you go for may I ask?
This or akai force?
What? Two completely different products.
Does this work with ableton?

does it have post fader?
How about a sunday skills on that?
+Marky Brag there is one linked at the end of the video. Let me know if you can't find it.
awesome controller
fully packed 😎👍
Wish Serato had midi clock without this product. Traktor has MIDI clock
Looks so fucking similar to the DDJ RX from Pioneer ;D
how much this dj controller?
5:05 👍
I'd still use it with traktor
The microphone controller on the 808 is useless. it keeps cutting off.
No feedback eliminator am going for 707
The jog wheels look so tiny. They should’ve made them a little bigger.
hahaa yo, "curating a set"
never heard any dj ever say it like that
Rotatory??🤣 Rotary is fine.
And the headphone controls are positioned poorly on the front of the device, deal breaker for me, otherwise I like it.
Brendan Ford that's the best place to have them lol. Set them once and you never need to touch them again.
only if the drum sounds would sounds good. who need those sounds?
You can use the Serato sampler to program your own drum sounds and samples in the same way if you’re not feeling the 707/8080/909 sounds.
thats funny you think the sounds are bad considering roland drum samples are some of the most widely used and legendary drum sounds in the history of EDM...
Holy ddj-sx copy
For the price... And as a producer this is what you call a gimmick. Too expensive
Lmao, for sure not. Its 1000 bucks, you pay more for a 1000 SRT which has less features and inferior sound quality.
Use bigger speakers 😂
I THINK VIRTUAL DJ IS MORE BETTER WITH ANY CONTROLLER
ODUDUWA TV in your dreams
Your grammar stinks.
Unprofessional
TOM-B ROMEO You have even worse grammar
Virtual dj isnt a controller, its a program
The drum machine breaks the whole idea of a dj controller.
Add to the whole idea*
It just filters out the people with limitations.
