Not sure why you kept going on about it being slow - it's not a sports car and you can't do more than 70 anyway (legally). It will shift off the line OK and 50 - 70 is perfectly good. You don't buy this sort of car to do drag racing so a non issue really.
Agreed, this Ollie bloke is just embarrassing himself with the 117 mph statement. A fool that has nice camera angles but has no real appreciation for the vehichle he is reviewing. First and last video that I'll watch from this low brow boy racer.
Excellent Vehicle , I've got one last year . Yes is slow to take off but is so comfortable on the road and off-road , seems like nothing can stop it . Only issue that I found and still experience is with the media system ; it gets stock and you must reset the car for 5 min to get it back to work . Land Rover update the software, due to some batteries issues but this MEDIA SYSTEM DEACTIVETED still there from time to time . Other than that is a magnificent Vehicle .
I have P250 HSE R Dynamic and its really a great car, only down side is low 20s mpg. First time in snow today, it was so good it was a complete anti climax but I guess that’s what you want. Enjoyed the review ta
Cheers Ollie, Just bought one yesterday - only watched this today! After four regular Discos, latest was a 4, couldn't get excited about a 5 so looked at the latest Sport and it ticks all my boxes. Its taken Land Rover a while but they are getting there. Thanks for the Video
I got this car but is the P200. Is a good cruiser like you said but is sluggish to take off. But you soon get use it, especially if you drove some kind of sport saloon. MPG is not super great due to the weight but thats a trade off for 4x4 that can go off road. If you happy with these, it is a great car.
I own a Freelander 2, 2015 model. I feel LandRover has become “too rounded and curvy” in their new designs. For me a LandRover has to be the boxy, rugged, utility vehicle. But still my favourite car brand.
Mine is a 2020 D180 HSE, it shifts from a standing start & keeps going. I wouldn't say it is a fast car but it is not slow. It is a joy to drive, responsive, quiet & economic (25-37mpg). I look forward to driving it & I could not be happier with it, affordable luxury.
It is not a Sports car ! His obsession with top speed is absolutely ridiculous. It’s unladen weight is just under 2 tonne. Besides being an R - Dynamic spec This car is also fitted with the “ Black Pack “ 2021 MY motors are much better with full 48 V mild hybrid tech D165 has 120 kw / 380 nm D200 has 150 kw / 430 nm It is a lot more responsive in “ Sport “ mode. 2021 MY also gets the latest Pivi Pro multi function display unit, and it’s brilliant - fast with no lag. Disco Sport is a great all round package. Fantastic vehicle. If u want a sports SUV Buy a RR Sport SVR It’s fast and sounds great But Costs heaps more and a massive fuel bill... Disco Sport is a very sensible option that you will be extremely happy with.
You keep using the cars gross weight which is its overall carrying capacity not its actual minimum kerb weight. Empty without anyone it sits around 1900kg or slightly more. Also I don’t like reviews mentioning too speed because it’s honestly the most irrelevant factor when it comes to purchasing a car unless you track a car or have a daily trip down the autobahn every morning. We have a D180 but have also have a d240 xf which is super punchy and what we want to get in our next one in a few months. Other than that couple of niggles this was honestly a refreshing review to watch and your quality is up there with carfection.
Big up the Ollies. These videos are quality. Rating big OW's deadpan presenting style. The visuals and editing are bang on. You're obviously working very hard on this and it shows. Nice one!
Very good, fair review, I have one, it’s a really great for its class,. I love the electronics and the safety options are significantly better than my q5. In addition, it’s 2x more comfortable and feels like a luxury SUV compared to it. The fit finish is excellent, sound system, infotainment, pano, cameras etc. . I’m not sure I get the top speed critique, it’s a suv, made for what was demonstrated in the video and don’t drive close to its top end. (If you want a speed chaser, probably Porsche SUV’s will fit the bill} . Also the Discovery Sport is built for off road, solid, which gives it the advantage in my opinion.
Nice review; I agree with most of it, but since you mentioned the top speed several times, I'd ask you to mention what the speed limit is. Is it over 117mph? If not, then a top speed of 117 is irrelevant. I'd also ask that you mention that you have the lowest spec engine. Here in the US, the diesel is not available, but we can get the P250 (246hp) or the P300 (296hp) - both of which are also available in Jaguars. I'm sure you can get higher spec engines in the UK as well. I just got a P250 SE, which has the same engine as my previous car (Jaguar XE), and it's not slow.
@@oliverpvlawson1826 Unfortunately, I live in a very flat area. In the four months I've owned it, I've rarely driven up anything but subtle inclines. I certainly had no problem on hills with my XE with the same engine and transmission. Of course, the XE is 500 pounds lighter. I might have gone for the diesel, if it had been available. But still, 269 lb-ft of torque, while not equal to a diesel, isn't too bad.
@@msalzberg4962 Absolutely, my eyes are well and truly open now to the capabilities and comfort that Land Rover do so well. I have one in my sights as a future daily. Ideally the Velar :)
@@oliverpvlawson1826 I think the Velar is the best looking SUV on the market; hard to do, since the form factor of an SUV is inherently ungainly. I've driven one off road at a Land Rover Experience, and it's incredibly capable.
Nice review. For that spec the vehicle should have been a D200, with 204bhp. Spritely in that guise , but certainly not sporty. Not sure where you'd be doing 117mph anyway, torque being the better measurement for these vehicles.
A bit late to the Discovery Sport party but I picked my first one up on Friday 2024 model RDynamic SE in silicon silver. Absolutely love it so far and agree with a lot this review says. My 2 golden retrievers like to spacious boot so everyone is happy
Have to agree re the acceleration, came from a 3.0TDI Q5, and now I have to gauge the 'sweet spot' to keep the torque working when overtaking. Lovely car on the motorway with the dynamic cruise control, and the meridian sound system. Compared to my mates Disco, it is smaller but feels sportier.
Well done guys. This is an awesome, professional review 👏👏 I desperately want one of these but having been bitten by the JLR curse of trying to make cars too many times to allow me to do it. I left JLR when a 6yr old Jaguar XF finally ate it’s own engine. And that was after well over £10,000 of other repair work. I scrapped the car after this because I was unwilling to cough up £12k for a new engine and turbos. Full Jaguar service and their extended warranty was worthless at this point. Zero accountability. How there’s been no huge civil lawsuit in the UK is beyond me.
Exactly same experience at 6 years. So how did your story end up? We are thinking to buy this one still, as we just like it too much. But we are scared that we are going to regret it…
Nice one. Am planning to buy one used one , am not bordered about speed, i like the speed. But am worried about MPG. Whats the consumption like for those that have it already. How many litters can be used for 20miles distance ??? How affordable is the running cost ?? Responses will help olease
good review I'll definitely check out your channel more ! I've gone for the PHEV version . it's a great car - the performance on that is much better and If like the majority of people you're driving less than 40 miles per day , you''ll do the bulk of it on electric power so it's cheap to run ( getting around 80MPG with mixed fuel running ) , particularly with the go overnight tariff you can get from energy companies like Octopus . Comfort and practicality wise I can't fault it and it seems very capable with the bits of off roading I've don . - I'm really pleased with it so far
Great review, other than the obsession with “embarrassingly slow”. 117mph is hardly slow, is far faster than you can legally travel in this country anyway - and not why anyone would ever buy this car. You had it in the environment it’s designed for - it handles the terrain and the weather with a good degree of comfort and luxury and a lot of power - exactly what this type of vehicle is aimed at.

A nice video but his obsession with speed is nonsense. With a legal limit of 70 mph it can far exceed that I own one and the low down torque proved adequate acceleration even for spirited overtaking. , Why can’t reviewers focus on real world driving conditions instead of this obsession with out right speed .
