I USE THE MFJ -901B Antenna Tuner AND I LOVE THE CONTROL IT GIVES ME OVER THE SWR. WITH THE MFJ -901B Antenna Tuner I CAN USTALLY GET A 1 TO 1 RATIO ON THE SWR.
Neat video. I have the same analyzer and hadn't thought about how I could use it to adjust the tuner before connecting to the transceiver, notwithstanding that I used it the same way on my loop antenna. May get one of these simpler tuners to run a random wire and will try this out.
My roommate got me a T-Shirt with my callsign for my birthday in August. Pretty cool to have, I’m trying my hardest to get one of my roommates licensed.
I can generally tune my NFJ Versa Tuner to 1.5:1 by ear alone, and then bring it in on 5 watts. Because it has all passive components, it's one of the things I think MFJ does quite well. If they have any circuitry in there, I'd generally give it a hard pass.
I really enjoyed your video. A good friend of mine still has an old tube radio, he loves it as a back up and warms it up once a week, receiving many 59's and 599's . I'm going to keep my eyes open for one on eBay. 8P6RC
Old tube rigs are a lot of fun! I got that Tempo One on eBay a couple of years ago. Works great! Probably needs tubes though. I had a Tempo just like it many years ago. So it’s nostalgic to say the least! Thanks for watching!
The model I have was built pretty well. I opened it up once I got it home and all the solder work looked ok. I’ve used it a couple of times without any issues.
Great video but you shouldn't really need a tuner for that FT200. It should handle anything from about 25-250 ohms which your OCFD should be within on the bands used on that rig. I run a 155 feet inverted L with my FT101EE and do not use a tuner. Parts of 160 meters are about 3:1 and it loads into it fine. I have one of these ordered for portable ops with my FT-891. 73 KF0BBU!
You’re probably right. Back in the day I had a Tempo One with dipoles and never used a tuner obviously. I guess I can chalk this up to the modern thought of always having a tuner, built in or not.

Hey Chris, thanks for a look at the MFJ-901B tuner. Your new hat and shirt look good!
I agree on the mtcradio. I've bought both of my hf radios from there.

Hi Chris another nice video, 73
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I just purchased the 901b, looks like a good product. K7WHN.
I just purchased a mfj-901 and look forward to being able to get my cramped hf antennas functional
It’s a great little tuner!

I always wanted some wearables! Good luck getting your roommate licensed!

Any recent news on MFJ build quality? I just ordered a 904b tuner.

@@k2cjbradio I got my 902b today. Haven't opened it up but all knobs seem to work fine. DX Engineering seems good to do business with.
135 feet is nearly a half wave on 80m. That's probably why it was difficult to tune.
have to wait for it to warm up a bit like computers.
Hahaha
Will this tuner tune 10:1 or 3:1 or less?
Good question. 3:1 is ok. Anything higher might be a problem.
