I went to a Nigerian wedding back in May and what I noticed once they started playing the Afrobeats was that all the music was beloved on a multi-generational level. It didn't matter if you were a child, a teen, a 20-something, or middle aged, everybody knew the lyrics and was dancing to the music. You cannot play MOST rap music in front of mixed company, let alone in a wedding reception.

To be honest, I was a diehard fan of hip hop my whole life and still consider it my favorite genre. But I stopped listening to it a couple years back. I had finally reached a level of maturity where the condition of my spirit and what I put into it meant more to me than my enthusiasm for hip hop. Even if were psychology strong, the sustained savagery and materialism throughout the genre, whether glorified or not, is an imposing negative force if consumed habitually. Maybe I'm crazy BUT I think this is actually the best thing that can happen for hip-hop because I think once the labels and mainstream gatekeepers have moved on it will drive most of the low-tier "rappers" out of the space (i mean the people that just jumped on SoundCloud with 3 tracks or used TikTok stunts to go viral who weren't even trying to be good yet were only there for a bag💰) leaving more space for the actual "artists" who really care about telling their story and are willing to build an organic following which will probably be smaller but hopefully more devoted. Yes, I know the labels do serve a purpose in the ecosystem of music but honestly I'm sick of them at this point. Let them go move on and pervert the next music genre just like they've done with many before. "Leave my hip-hop alone!" As I sound like the rap version of "Get off my lawn!"

There are some many ways MCs can get their music out today that fans don't need the billboard to know what's hot. I could care less! Very few of my favorite rap albums even made it to the top 20 of billboard's pop charts.

Reggeaton and Afrobeats is another form of Hip-hop. What I noticed about Bad Bunny's album is that the producers are producing the hell out of these albums. And the vibes are definitely party and upbeat for dancing. The ladies also love it

I'm a 70s baby and in the 90s all the rappers warned what was occurring. It is wild though because the industry did it and then tried to act as if they didnt. The people have never change but it is plenty of rappers that are way more positive etc. not allowed to be mainstream. Plus not even going to say what occurred over the last few years. I honestly feel like America is a huge test subject for the world.

The general public cant relate what todays rap is is talking about. The quality, the originality, the relatability of hip hop and rap has completely fell off.
Rap and Hip Hop used to be about a good time, a party or about overcoming personal struggle leading to success.
The general public doesnt want to hear barely discernable, slang and profanity filled, violent mumble rap.

HipHop at its core is still very American centric. We are the birthplace so everything outside of here is just emulating. That being said, afrobeats, Latin music, and dance music are international, they permeate beyond culture. They aren’t dependent on jus the place they come from but the energy it brings. I just think there is more money in the international market than there will ever be in just America.

It's incredible to me that since this is the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop that a new report has found that for the first time in 30yrs there hasn't been a single hip-hop song or album that topped the Billboard 200 or Hot 100 Charts in 2023. So this could be an industry response to the current decline of Hip Hop on charts.

The problem with hip hop has been the same for a long time, the prison industry, drug industry and law enforcement industry use rap to feed their system. Addressing that part requires conscious effort because without that they will start criminalizing legal behavior to continue to feed these systems. Waking up requires seeing the whole game not just part of it

Music is the soundtrack to our lives. We gravitate towards whatever we are feeling. I’m not feeling that hardcore stuff all the time. I don’t want to hear that all the time. These rappers need some variety in their subject matter! Or maybe the music is being made, but the powers that be only playing the hard core stuff. Something like your Meek Mill video: Labels pay rappers more for violent lyrics.

That's why I tell niggas all the time, be different. Ninety-nine per-cent of rappers everywhere rapping the same style, the same shit. People are like sheep. Majority of people are being led based on who the record labels are signing and choose to support. But that can only work for so long. At some point, there has to be some creativity and originality that comes into play in order to be business fluid, and keep people engaged. And the producers are to blame as well. I'm tired of trap beats. I refuse to rap over any trap beats. So the problem is multifaceted. The producers, the labels, and artists are to blame for hip-hop's stagnation.

None the less there are still great artists out there that deserve the spot light more than the artist we have today. Kaleb Mitchell, solchyld, rapsody, Larussel, OG Davy. Nobigdyl, Lecrae, reconcile and whatuprg is killing it in chh. Rswift and Derek Minor finna drop a project.

Hmm interesting but I don’t think this is a trend in what listeners are picking and choosing but rather a strategy for major labels to stay alive during the independent era.
    Bad Bunny is independent.
In my opinion, Latin and afrobeats don’t seem to have the staying power that hip hop has, reggaeton can be just as stagnant as trap. I can see afrobeats becoming a new era for r&b but any genre coming forward will always have hip hop in its dna.
Hip hop is like energy, it can’t be destroyed it’ll continue to morph.
More artists just need to spend more time with the art of songwriting/storytelling.

Agreed. I’m hearing all around the inter webs that hip hop is dead which is far from being that. You just have to dig for it and you will find some gems wether they be solidly recorded or just some dudes recording in a bedroom. Record labels are too focused on the money and don’t care about the creativity as long as the music puts money in their pockets they are game. It’s to bad that there aren’t any college or underground radio stations that play fresh music nowadays. I’m from Southern California and back in my day we had K-Day, 88.7 The Down Low, and The Ghetto Blaster as hip hop outlets to get that raw hip hop from all over America

Tht video said it all. Drill is what killed rap tbh. No feel good vibes. Just weirdo vibes tbh. The Afro beats n Latin gets the ppl smilin dancing n having a good time. This weirdo drill is boring n just not normal. And overall horrible music. Everybody wants to be a tough guy. We wanna feel good. Tht tough guy act is dirt. The females got it on lock. They get it. Now the genre is dead. Dababy had it he actually understood what ppl love. He just made a HORRIBLE mistake. Bc he’s the only rapper I can think of tht GETS IT.
