For things song, you have to be able to:
- sing in most singing registers
- have a wide vocal range
- insane breath control
- vocal agility
- even more in things in the comments
And that’s why this is one of the hardest songs to sing
I just need to master the whistle notes bro
I understand but it's actually more than just vocal range. You need insane breath support, vocal control, vocal agility to execute the melismas and arpeggios in the 7th octave, resonance, transitions. This song is simply a vocal suicide. Even Mariah herself, although achieved higher notes in the whistle register live, never sang the song--not once in her entire career--in its original key because it's too high and she also said in an interview that she lost her voice sometime after recording this. Much respect for her!
I've heard this song a million times and it still makes me stop breathing when I hear her whistles. A more beautiful singing voice my ears have not heard.

I missed Mariah Carey when she began her career. But I remember reading about her debut performance in Oakland in like 1989. The reporter simply could not find the words to describe her. She was too incredible. It would have been like 1996 Jordan getting discovered on a high school team. What was clear from the article was that this was one of the greatest voices in my lifetime. I'm 60 now, and that writer should be proud of that article. They were correct. I cannot believe the power, tone, range, control and sheer beauty her voice has. Go girl. Respect.

Whitney couldn't do half the things Mariah could do with her voice, a lot of people can slay her songs and sometimes even do better but anyone fails with Mariah's songs because simply no one is skilled enough to touch her vocals. Glennis Grace, Belinda Davids, Chariche... One example is Glennis Grace with Whitney's songs and then with Mariah's songs like Emotions or If It's over, compared to Mariah she doesn't even look like a professional singer also simplifying the arrangement a lot while with Whitney's songs she sounds perfect.
Anyone who has vocal knowledge and is not biased will be able to tell you that the complexity of Mariah's vocals has yet to be matched by other mainstream singers. Then everybody has a preference regarding the tone and style but objectively Mariah was the best vocalist. She had it all in her prime power, range, versatility, technique, tone, different textures, resonance, agility, coloratura abilities plus the artistry is just uncomparable. She's far from being just a voice but her voice was the most phenomenal

1. the voice range for this song is high, instead of falsetto, mariah uses chest voice which requires energy
2. the whistle notes bruh
3. lots of techniques used, such as riffs and runs, and little bit falsetto.
4. if you use your chest voice, especially with this song, you'll sound breathy. I believe there's method to do it smoothly like how she did
