This song came out in fall 1995 and in December 1995 I had to be hospitalized at age 3 for a blood disorder. The girl next to me on the pediatric unit in the room next to me was a 16-year-old leukemia patient who would always play this song. I was only 3 so I didn’t know about music. I remember one day I was rushed to another room and after that day I never saw the girl again and the music stopped. I learned she had died and they needed to rush me out. This song reminds me of her
I don't know anyone that don't like the Music of The Carey, they might not be fond of the Mariah but the music of Carey is irrefutable!!! You can't say 90's and 2000 music without saying her name in reverence!
Basically grew up in a household that played Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Beatles (60s I know but my dad kept playing it during weekends when I was growing up), Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John, Spice Girls, BSB, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Radiohead, Alanis Morisette, Celine Dion songs (among other 90s greats) on a daily basis. When I was a kid, this song was the most played song at the local roller skating rink. When I was around girls, I always acted like I hated it. In actuality, I was the one who snuck off by myself to request it to the DJ. Hehe.
Honestly. I just went through her life's work, and she is possibly the greatest of all time. Literally the best tracks for the 90s and 2000s. That 1996 Grammy's is getting the side eye.
She hit Worcester, MA in her very, very VERY first time on tour. My girlfriend at the time was OBSESSED with Mariah and lemme tell ya, she held nothing back in concert. She gave that amazing vocal range of her some exercise which impressed me because I'd become so accustomed to live artists taking it easy and saving their true range for the recording studio. Not Mariah. She gave it her all.... and we all loved and appreciated her for it.
The only reason Oasis never got a number one in the states, if I remember correctly. Wonderwall was #1 around the world, but Mariah Carey beat them. Still, pretty great song to lose to.
Willlll1m Because it was made before the inception of UA-cam. That's why something like Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend is one of the most watched videos on UA-cam because it was released around the time UA-cam first came into prominence. And of course, look at how many views a Taylor Swift video gets. And then compare those views to, say, Alanis Morissette who was huge in the '90s. If UA-cam had been around in the 90s, this song would have probably had over 100 million views.

When she came out, she took the whole world by surprise, those vocals were on another level!!

Must be talking about the little asian girl in Rush Hour
She has an 8 octave range.
I don't think anyone has topped the queen of vocals yet. She set that bar HIGHH ♥️♥️♥️😂
This is arguably her best song. The creative maturity of blending pop and funk and dance is shining. And her vocal performance here is outstanding. The flavour in her voice, my lord...
ua-cam.com/video/c6cupPioWx8/v-deo.html
Too bad she stole it from an 80s band!
No one disagreeing is what gives me hope!
There is no wrong answer with Mariah
Well, I don't know about which is her best but I believe Forever is harder to sing
@@samb9865 I agree. 'Forever' is damn hard, and one of the most beautiful melodies I've heard.
This song reminds me of her
🥺
So sad😣hope everything is good for u now❤❤
This video came in late 1995 early 1996

LIFE IS 2 DAMN SHORT TO BE PRETENDING YOU DON'T LIKE MARIAH CAREY AND HER MUSIC.
You got right!!!
I'm here after Rush Hour. I liked the song so much that I started searching
I don't know anyone that don't like the Music of The Carey, they might not be fond of the Mariah but the music of Carey is irrefutable!!! You can't say 90's and 2000 music without saying her name in reverence!
Facto!!!!
Cheers to that.
Me here after watching Free Guy movie!!!!! This song just so fantastic and joyful.
And Mariah’s vocal??!!! Omg no one sounds like this.
Bro that movie was amazing lol
The only person who can ride roller coaster smiling and singing just like that!
definitely hard for MC

The only person?.... riiight. lol tfoh
Mr bean: Hold my teddy
Basically grew up in a household that played Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Beatles (60s I know but my dad kept playing it during weekends when I was growing up), Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John, Spice Girls, BSB, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Radiohead, Alanis Morisette, Celine Dion songs (among other 90s greats) on a daily basis. Ahhh, the memories
Edit: added several more artists I could remember listening to

This song is addictive

Great song. Great video. I always have wondered where the little girl in the video is. She was so sweet.
I'm into heavy metal but this is so damn good. fight me.

I feel you, I listen to everything from Gojira to this. Total extreme opposites haha.
same lmao, i usually listen to punk/alternative rock but mariah is truly one of the greatest artists ever and everyone can enjoy her music regardless of genre
Same. Back to back with you in this fight.
So she was 25 here and wrote and produced this song and directed this video while she was also making a remix for this song with ODB, which changed the music industry forever, and was recording an Alt-rock album just to release stress. LEGEND!!!
What's an ODB?
What's Alt-Rock?
@@Some_One_One ODB was the rapper Old Dirty Bastard from the Wutang Club. He passed away a few years ago. She also wrote and produced the alternative rock album Someone’s Ugly Daughter for which one of her friends recorded the lead vocals and they gave the band a fake name ‘Chick’.
@@scotts3409 it’s sampled. The Genius of love beat is there and she uses the “im in heaven” part in the bridge but the lyrics are new, the intro is new, the chorus is new. The production is quite different. She definitely gave new life to that song. Mariah’s vocals are a LOT more sophisticated. It’s not like you go from Genius of love to Fantasy with zero effort.
You read the book huh? Did it blow your mind!? I can't stop thinking about it!
She's probably the only one person who looks dam perfect in a roller-coaster.

When I was a kid, this song was the most played song at the local roller skating rink. When I was around girls, I always acted like I hated it. In actuality, I was the one who snuck off by myself to request it to the DJ. Hehe.
MotorCitySean this me right here
MotorCitySean wrong.
At the roller skating rinks, they played the original talking heads/tom tom club version.
Joaquin Coronado not if you grew up in fresno foo, this the latin version.
really? in VA the most overplayed track at the skating rink was 100% “Say My Name” lol
Magic Wheels in Jackson TN or somewhere else?
Forever mariyah she knows how sing very real good
That woman was one of the best vocalists ever.
the best for me 🙌🏼
And she still is
Honestly. I just went through her life's work, and she is possibly the greatest of all time. Literally the best tracks for the 90s and 2000s. That 1996 Grammy's is getting the side eye.
love love love this lady sexy minx
The best
The range of her voice is just amazing
Five octave? Something like that, it is insane!
@@AldoSchmedack I think you’re right; I think she is second only to Celine Dion who, if I recall, reportedly has a range of 6 or 7 octaves
@@EddieMitz Never... Mariah hits from F2 to B7, it's more than 5 octaves!! Celine's highest grade is Eb6 if I'm not mistaken and the lowest is C3.
@@SomewhereOnTheOutside awesome thank you for the correction 👍
She hit Worcester, MA in her very, very VERY first time on tour. My girlfriend at the time was OBSESSED with Mariah and lemme tell ya, she held nothing back in concert. She gave that amazing vocal range of her some exercise which impressed me because I'd become so accustomed to live artists taking it easy and saving their true range for the recording studio. Not Mariah. She gave it her all.... and we all loved and appreciated her for it.
*#1 for 8 weeks on Billboard Hot 100, in 1995*
"Fantasy" is the introduction of R&B/Pop and Hip-hop feats in *POP culture.*
The only reason Oasis never got a number one in the states, if I remember correctly. Wonderwall was #1 around the world, but Mariah Carey beat them. Still, pretty great song to lose to.
First Woman To Debut at #1 with This Song 🎉🎉
FiNE PLASTiC It was not the introduction but she’s the one who definitely popularized it more.
@@pjonesps thats true :)

Anyone else wants to comment on how beautiful she is? The hair, the smile, the natural look…
How the hell has this video only got 13million views....... 'Fantasy' is a timeless classic!!
Willlll1m Do you EXPECT 9 Trillions?
Verga Lechera Yes
Willlll1m Because it was made before the inception of UA-cam. That's why something like Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend is one of the most watched videos on UA-cam because it was released around the time UA-cam first came into prominence. And of course, look at how many views a Taylor Swift video gets. And then compare those views to, say, Alanis Morissette who was huge in the '90s. If UA-cam had been around in the 90s, this song would have probably had over 100 million views.
AcademyAwardsPerson I understand what you are saying but her other videos from this era such as Hero, Always Be My Baby and Without You all have 3x more views than this,
That's a lot
Nothing puts me in a celebratory mood like Fantasy. I've listened to this song right after each exam I've done to get my university degree. I'm graduating next month, thank you Mariah!
