in the book, it said Liesel loved Hans the most and was most upset about his death but for me, it was Rudy. I was blubbering like a baby when she found "the boy whose hair remained the colour of lemons for ever."
The author of the book stated his favorite character in the book was Rudy. That's probably why is death scene was most gripping and devestating, well that and the fact that he was only fourteen rather than a full grown adult who had already experienced life. It is understandable, however, that Hans is who effected her the most considering she was closest to him and he was like her father.
his death was the saddest for me...like he was her closest friend beside her papa and he was so young, so full of life, and he stood beside Liesel the entire time. he never got his kiss, it was so sad when she was trying to wake him up by kissing him. it broke my heart.
what is really annoying about the book and movie is that THE ONE PERSON who you think is gonna die lives and all the characters you love and think will stay safe dies like WHY DO YOU PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS LIKE THAT
Emma _Eliza I dunno, why comment 2 years later, huh? Well, then again, I can’t talk, cause this is a comment made 8 months later after yours, so uh... yeah. Anyways, God Bless!
I just reread the book. It said: "As they walked back to Himmel Street, Rudy forewarned her. “One day, Liesel,” he said, “you’ll be dying to kiss me.” But Liesel knew. She vowed. As long as both she and Rudy Steiner lived, she would never kiss that miserable, filthy Saukerl, especially not this day. " I didn't notice this in the beginning. Liesel only kissed Rudy when he was no longer alive. Saddest scene ever.
Sajida Hussain we had to watch this in class and I was the only person who cried lol, but my friend hit me and told me to man up and I was like: "h died tho-ooo-ooo"
Rudy and liesel remind me of that typical love-friendship I used to have with my boy friend when I was a kid. So innocent, pure and strong, that is why I love the book thief.
If there was no Hitler, Liesel never would have went to Molching to live with foster parents in the first place, so Rudy still would not have gotten a kiss from her.
This is so adorable!!!!!!! The actor for Rudy is really cute and so is the actor of Iesle!!! Such a heart felt story!! One question! Is this a real story?
+neemz Grybz Yupe. The author himself in the end of the book said he used to hear a lot of stories about the war from his family in the past and didn't know he'll eventually need them to write this book. Although, I believe it was mostly fictional events in also believe he must have used something to build them on. :)
SHE KISSED HIM WHEN HE DIED AND I CRIED SO HARD!!!!😭😭😭😭 HE WAS GONNA TELL HER HE LOVED HER BUT HIS LAST WORDS WERE "I GOTTA TELL YOU".... note i was at school when i watchee the movie so i was crying hysterically in class while everyone was staring at me, BUT AT LEAST IM NOT ASHAMED TO EXPRESS MY TRUE FEELINGS
Ok I have been crying for the past 3 days about Rudy’s death he cared so much for liesel and took such good care of her like I wish he would have lived and gave her some sort of comfort after everything that happened he was one of my favorite characters
I watched this on the way to Korea (in the flight). It was very late n most of the passengers were asleep, and there I was, sobbing for Rudy. :') It was a great moment. I personally want to thank Markus Zusak for the amazing story.
We watched this movie in class, and everyone cried at the end when Rudy died and finally got his kiss. Then for my birthday my friend bought me the book, I'm almost done as I haven't been able to put it down.
SPOILER ALERT: I can't believe Rudy dies in this movie its so tragic. He's choking and tries to tell her he loves her, panicking and whispering "I have to say it, I have to tell you" and then he dies....its so sad. Got me crying );
as someone who's read the book thief 4 times less than a month and cried every time, these comments are hurting me edit: currently making it 5th edit: i've read it eight times now edit: ten
OMG the actor who played Liesel looks a lot like Lorde. Or is it just me. By the way she did a great job. Isn’t her name Sophia or Sophie something like that. She nailed the German accent to. Such an amazing actress.
I clicked on this clip but then had to get up to get water so I didn’t even watch it 😂 But because it’s my favorite movie I knew all the lines anyway so I just quoted along with it without even watching the scene. I did it flawlessly 😂
***** yeah, it´s a great scene but, when I said that it´s not as in the book it´s because in the book, they competing in the stadium and ended full of mud
for some weird reason, i didn't really cry that much when like everybody died i mean i shed a few tears here and there, but like the characters didn't really touch me as much...
This scene was the beginning of their amazing friendship and me finding two of my favorite characters of all time. I didn’t even know it…..Oh dang! That sounds like a quote from the book! 😭😭😭 I didn’t mean to do that!!
SPOILER AHEAD! DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK OR WATCHED THE MOVIE OR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED he never got his kiss.. :'( he did end up getting it but he wasn't alive for it :(

+KJ doughnuts being 14 is depressing because of that fact. -And also a certain hunger games character who will forever be 13-
Me too xx

Annika Dalley spoiler! 😢

That’s why it’s a good book tho. Plot twists are what make you keep reading
Who are you talking about? Liesel or the mayor and the mayor's wife?
That's better than the corny Hollywood movies with stereotypical happy endings.

KEEP IN MIND RUDY MAY HAVE DIED AND WE ALL MAY HAVE CRIED BUT BE HAPPY BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE NICO
I cried when rudy died, he was just adorable
Sajida Hussain we had to watch this in class and I was the only person who cried lol, but my friend hit me and told me to man up and I was like: "h died tho-ooo-ooo"
Oh Rudy
ADORABLE but the line is "Why would YOU want to kiss ME?" Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, saumensch, get it right!
Are you saying it was different in the book or that this is what you think she should have said?
That's the line from the book :)
Pretty obvious why he would want to kiss her.
I think they should have kept it that way, and I don't get why they didn't put in the shop scene! XD
I'm such a shipper.
@@YourAscents Uhm, nope. The lines are "Why would you want to kiss me? I'm filthy!" and Rudy responded with "So what? I am too"

She didn't die at a young age. It was Rudy.

The moment I saw Rudy in the movie, he stole my heart
She should of kissed him when she had the chance!😭😩
Yeah, either in Alex's shop or at the Amper river.
She never thought he was gonna die
She did in the book. . . he just wasn't alive.
She did kiss him just a moment after he died
This is so adorable!!!!!!! The actor for Rudy is really cute and so is the actor of Iesle!!! Such a heart felt story!! One question! Is this a real story?
Totally agree! And it's not a real story, it's based on a novel called the book thief by Markus Zusak :)
Although it's not a real story, I'm sure there have been many events such as this that were real :)

I loved the movie but i hate when everybody dies
And the boy whose hair remained the colour of lemons never got his kiss. His death was the saddest of them all😢

I was literally bawling at 10 pm in my bed. His death part was so sad. And he was so sweet to sleep with his little sister.
Oh my God why is Rudy so adorable?! God why did someone this innocent have to die?!
One of the best movies ever made. All the actors were excellent and moving and I as well cried a bucket of tears.

He won the race to death, so she did have to kiss him I guess.
