  • In this video I solve the following problem (1-15) from Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering, Fogler, 4th ed.
1-15) The reaction A - B, is to be carried out isothermally in a continuous flow reactor. Calculate both the CSTR and PFR reactor volumes necessary to consume 99% of A (ie. C_A = 0.01C_Ao) when the entering molar flow rate is 5 mol/h, assuming the reaction rate -r_A is:
    a) -r_A = k with k = 0.05 mol/ (h*dm^3)
    b) -r_A = kC_A with k = 0.0001 s^(-1)
    c) -r_A = kC_A^2 with k = 3 dm^3 / (mol*h)
    The entering volumetric flow rate is 10 dm^3/h. (note: F_A = C_A*v. For a constant volumentric flow rate v=v_o, then F_A = C_A*v_o. Also, C_Ao = F_Ao/v_o = [5 mol/h]/[10 dm^3/h] = 0.5 mol/dm^3)
    d) Repeat (a), (b), and (c) to calculate the time necessary to consume 99.9% of species A in a 1000 dm^3 constant volume batch reactor with C_Ao = 0.5 mol/dm^3.

for the batch reactor q at the end, why wasn't the volume cancelled out? since plugging in Na = CaVo. (also this is very helpful thank you!!)

Hello, I found that quite useful, thanks! However I think calculating Time/batch reactor isn`t clear,,, Please correct me if I`m wrong,, isn`t NA/V=CA?, which means Volumes cancels each other from both equation side.

please check that of the batch reactor..... Na = CaV so assuming constant volume the V will take away that of Vo

Page 33. 4th edition. Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering. It could be that you have a different version of this book. There are two versions of it.

I have a question....im 29 yrs old and i will be graduating soon in 2020 in BS-Pharmacy....i have plan to proceed chemical engineering in 2022 .... whats you advise?....should i proceed maybe i will graduate in chem.eng. At 36 yrs. old....is there any job waiting for me??....chem.eng. Is my dream profession....i choose pharmacy first due to parents decision....pls. Help me....

There are lots of jobs available in chemical engineering. I would do what you think you'll be happiest doing. Are you thinking about graduate school in chemical engineering or a bachelor degree? Either way there are lots of jobs- it's also becoming more common for people to switch careers so starting a new career in your 30s wouldn't be unusual. I think pharmacy is a good career too but if you won't be happy doing it or you really want to work in chemical engineering the sooner you make the switch the easier it will be.

Raili T I will be 4th year next year....i will finish first pharmacy....1 year left in pharmacy....may be @ 30 i will proceed chem. eng. but my problem is if they will not hire me due to my age because if i proceed chem.eng. I will graduate 35 and take my licensed at 36....is there company that will hire me??

Raili T Is being a licensed pharmacist be a factor that the employer hire me if i finished chem.eng.??....or being pharmacist has nothing to do regarding chemical engineering??

@@railitaylorI was underemployed for 4 years and I graduated may 20 2020 bachelor of chemical engineering university of minnesota. There are no jobs in chemical engineering. Maybe if sleepy joe biden hadn't shut the whole country down I would have worked as chemical engineer 1 at 3m.
