  • Hey Good People,
I had a customer in the shop today who called us up and requested a quote for a transmission. It was already diagnosed at Pep Boys. Because I always do a courtesy check over the vehicle, I discovered something else.
We have go to do better in the auto repair industry 🙏🏽
I hope you enjoy the video. Leave your comments below. I love to hear from you guys!

A dishonest shop would say "OK I replaced the transmission it's running perfect now. That'll be $3000." 😂

Nah they’ll replace and say it didn’t fix the issue still charge , then charge diag and then charge for the real fix

Wow. The world really needs more people like you Alex. Thanks for doing the right thing. Those other guys give this industry such a bad name. Secondly seeing the Hyundai oil level I wasn’t surprised 🤣. Having owned a Hyundai Grand i10 1.25 that uses one litre oil very 2100 miles is absurd. No excuse for Hyundai to make oil burning engines.

You and your shop remind me of my Dad and his shop. I can’t count the number of times we went behind the chain stores that had done shoddy work or an OBVIOUS misdiagnosis. He had a reputation of being an HONEST mechanic that did good work. He never got rich. But he was able to Put my mother and us 7 kids through college, provide a good life , and teach us Godly values. I no longer work as an independent. But I try to apply those same values of honesty and good work as a master Tech at the Ford dealership where I work. God bless🙏🏽🙏🏽

Alex, you & your wife are a breath of fresh-air in this business. Y’all deserve all the success that comes your way. I respect the honest hustle - keep doing what you’re doing and you will continue to be blessed. My family has ran an upholstery shop since the 60’s, so I’m familiar with the day-to-day busyness of a shop & dealing with customers. I wanted to ask if you guys ever do, or try to land fleet contracts? That should help with the slow days. I know for our shop we would get contracts with marinas & fleet/dealerships which held us over during the winter months when things are a lot slower.
Love the videos! I always look forward to seeing more.

Some mechanics can cause you more problems than they solve, this is why i prefer to work on my own car to the best of my ability until it is something beyond my knowledge, man power and tools. I took my car to a shop to replace my axles and tie rods, in the process of doing that, the mechanic forgot to properly bolt down my abs wheel speed sensor, causing the wire to dangle and rub on the wheels, causing my abs wire to short circuit. The same mechanic wanted to charge me $250 to fix the mess his shop created. I bought the part on ebay for $40 and did it myself. Never gone back to that shop

Mad respect to you for being honest with the customer meanwhile still being able to take some sort of advantage of the ordeal by making an informative video. I literally became a DIY car guy due to having real trust issues with car shops and this whole situation is one of the best examples of why... I'm fortunate enough to have my own space and tools to work on my own car but not everyone is capable or confident enough to wrench on their own car so we need mechanics to not screw up. The poor clueless lady was the prime target for scam and I'm glad you set it straight.

Jiffy Lube is why I started working on my own car(s). I took a vehicle I owned years ago to one of Jiffy Lubes in Miami for an oil change. They basically use an impact gun to (over) tighten the drain bolt… causing the oil pan to leak.

Earlier this year, a guy I know had his RAM 1500 checked out by a mechanic, told me he was saving up for a wheel bearing, said there was a horrible grinding sound from the front. I just slid under the truck (didn't even lift it), and I found the CV Axle broken and hanging down on the lower control arm, it already ground out about an inch of it. The mechanic never looked at the truck, just heard the grinding and assumed it needed a bearing.

Well said Alex mechanics need to take the time and look over everything before they say what is wrong with the car need to do a visual inspection like you do there’s not too many mechanics out there to do what you do. I do that all the time when I work on cars anybody’s always look over stuff and let them know what’s going on so they will know because I’ll be the last one working on it and I don’t want them to think I did something I like to know what’s going on with this be fixed so they can understand that I’m fixing what is we fix but there’s other things that need to be taken care of other issues

Sad part about all this is you never know who you can trust. Right after my warranty ended on my 06 Cobalt standard shift it got to where it could be shifted. The dealership said it was the slave cylinder and it would be 1700-dollar, slave cylinder is in the bell housing. I didn't have the money right then so I decided to take it home and see if I could bleed the slave cylinder line. I tried bleeding it and no fluid was coming out. Long story short, I changed the master clutch cylinder for about 70-dollars and all was good.

Great video! A lot of mechanics unfortunately, would have chosen to do the wrong thing! I just made a video on TikTok the other night on why I was called to check out a Kia Sportage. The customer had an oil change done at Valvoline and Valvoline left her oil cap undone, and there was oil everywhere but it was causing misfires because it was losing vacuum. The very next day I did another video on my mom’s neighbors, daughter, Friend, Kia, and Valvoline forgot to put oil back into her motor. A lot of those people at the damn quick lube shops don’t know what they’re doing.

7:03 Buick transmission will last a long time if people drop the pan and change the filter.
11:20 I drove my friend 2017 Sonata and the oil light came on. I check the oil and none was on the stick. I told him he needed oil and he said he was getting the oil change Friday. I put two quarts of oil in the engine and it was still low. His engine locked up less than a year later.

Hi, I was wondering how could I find a knowledgeable and honest repair shop like yours. It seems almost impossible.
I just moved and bought a used car. Now when I got a car it had an oil leak from the oil plug from the oil change in Chevrolet dealership. The NTB did the oil change but did not want to initially fix the problem they caused with the tires and tried to lie to me.
Then I wanted a horn fuse pulled and literally 3 different small shops could not figure out which one it is. I had to spend 30 minutes myself to figure that out. Actually the only normal service is my VW service where the transmission fluid change was without an issue and they fixed my alignment from NTB as a bonus. But next time when trying to schedule service for a clock spring they charge a $300 only for diagnostics. I do not have a problem paying for the service but that is nuts.
Either expensive dealership or praying they know what they are doing.

I had one once that i thought was a transmission and im glad i caught it before it was too late. I had a subaru outback that wouldnt move and made a bit of noise when in gear. I thought it needed a transmission so the customer asked me to do brakes on all four corners so they could send it off to trans shop. As i did the front passenger corner, i found the cv axle was broken! I replaced the cv axle while i was doing the brakes and sure enough, the car drove fine with no noise. I dont know why i did that but im glad i caught it before the customer spent thousands on a new transmission.

People need alot of educating about going to those cheap places, you get what you pay for, sometimes you get alot less. Ive seen complaints about Walmart tire and lube service. Ruined engines, and corporate that refuses to own up and make things right. That's just awful. I've always seen being shady or deceitful to customers as the "dark side" (im a star wars fan). Once you walk in the dark side, it's hard to get out. You keep needing to lie to make that extra money. Thank God and the Holy Spirit I've always had enough self control to resist , but I've seen guys,...oof.. Good on you tho for doing right Alex, be a shining light in the dark world of mechanics !

    • @Quiselott
      @Quiselott 7 місяців тому

I wouldn't even call them cheap. More like "convenient" because they're chains and you can find them everywhere. But typically I've gotten charged more going to places like Midas, Jiffy Lube, or Pep Boys than the local mechanic. I mean once I literally got a quote from them that sounded crazy then walked across the street to a local mechanic with five stars and bro undercut their quote by about $100, got me scheduled sooner, and cleaned my engine bay as well 😅 just a really cool dude.

Not to mention a lot of these large chain mechanic shops like to upsale services you don't need.

Reminds me of my old 2.2 Ecotec, or should I say multiple engines I put in my Cavalier!
Just easier to swap the engine out and go till it blows 😂

Like 3 weeks ago I did a knock sensor on a 2015 Optima with that same Theta 2.4. Removed the exhaust manifold, did the job and test drove for 10 minutes, normally. No CEL and car ran fine. I get back to let the car idle and call the customer to come outside. As I am waiting for her I hear a light chatter. I instantly knew this thing had no oil. Pull the dipstick and almost no oil in it. Told her drive a couple of miles to Walmart and put an entire 5qt jug of Penzoil Platinum in there (She did not want to pay me for an oil change). She does this and the next day the noise is still there. She is coming home from work and the car shutdown and had to be towed. Exhaust camshaft position sensor is what the mechanic said and the chatter was a rod knock. Blown motor 😂😂😂

Wow super honest shop and mechanic.
She should also start using thicker oil instead of the crap 0w16 0w20 or even 5w20 thin crap she she should be using 5w30 proper viscosity or 10w30. And checking it every time you gas up your vehicle

Had the caliper thing happen to me after I did brakes on my car. Really kicked myself for being an idiot. I kept hearing a clunk and it was the caliper swinging out and hitting the wheel. If you are a DIY like me, get a good torque wrench and threadlocker, the aluminum hubs and bolts are harder to "feel" tighten. Not like the steel hubs and bolts of some vehicles.
By the way was the noise on the car the sway bar link? Sometimes when you see rust near the boot of a link its a bad joint and the link makes noise.

And another thing. There is no telling if that used transmission is going to be any good "moving forward". Could be a lot of wasted time and money.

My '03 Forester was using a qt under a 1000 miles. Pulled the engine. Pulled the pistons. Oil rings stuck to the pistons. New rings. Hopefully, well be filling the tank and checking the oil.
