I have 3 fits in my driveway... my wifes and my brothers, which i co own- and my own! This video kind of inspired me to get another one... it could be my autocross/ adventure fit... hahahaabhaha very cool guys!
I did something very similar in my Honda CRV. After a few trips I realized that accessing the storage underneath was cumbersome once the bedding/mattress was added. Also, I built it so the front seats were pushed forward to expand platform for sleeping. This meant I could not easily get in the driver's seat to make a quick exit or drive to a bathroom in the night. Both have happened. Hope youre having fun in yours!
Indeed! We thought about accessing the storage underneath a lot before committing to the design we had. The current configuration allows us to easily get at the storage from either side door (but maybe still limits the size of object/cooler that can be put underneath.) We too have to push our seats all the way forward to flip down our headboard and sleep. Since we only have to move the hinged headboard, it is fairly quick for us to flip that back, adjust the seats and drive away. We are looking forward to eventually having a bigger vehicle that can have a more permanent setup

At least better quality- we basically got the cheapest stuff at home Depot which warped a bit after cutting. It has not been a big deal though. I might do a follow-up video to go over measurements of the pieces. Good luck!

Hello, I've been checking out the designs, how do you guys secure the headboard portion? If i'm not mistaken, the front car seats have to be pushed to the front so that there's enough space. So how do you configure the headboard when driving and sleeping?
When driving, the. headboard flips to the back and lays flat. We can then slide our seats most of the way back and drive normally (I think I have to sit just a tiny bit closer to the steering wheel than I normally would). When we are parked for the night, we slide the seats all the way to the front, and generally tilt the seats most of the way forward. The board then flips over and rests on the back of the seats. We like to have the seats adjusted so that the headboard had just a little bit of an angle.
@@ryanfields4146 ah ok, so it’s like a hinge that flips over. I’m guessing it doesn’t need support from the bottom side (so it doesn’t break off?) , thanks for your reply. I just bought a preowned manual Honda Fit and am looking to do something similar .

I don't think I did a good job of showing it in any of the videos but we have two different hinge types. The first are permanent between the headboard and mid-piece allowing the headboard to fold down and easily take out. Then we put in a different hinge type (you can sort of see in in my second video) that lets the middle and back pieces clip together when it is in the car. We've had some problems with this hinge popping apart when driving, but it generally works. Overall, this allows for the platform to be in 2 large pieces and can easily be removed. @@ryanfields4146 fair enough! 🙂 I've also considered using the baby seat fasteners that on the base in the car behind the seats. Did you use those for anything?
I am thinking of securing part of the wood bed platform to the original retaining bolts on floor for the rear seat (removed). Also cargo net on top hooked to carabiners that came standard with my Mazda5
hope get my first car this year, im gonna take yaris 2007, and make like this.
Good luck! We just took a trip in ours and it is so nice to have the platform
wow smart couple
NICE VIDEO! :_
Could you post the measurements of each piece?
There is a link in the video description to dimensions of each piece in inches. These were the measurements that we used for our platform.
Woah i didnt noe u can cut plywood in homedepot
Oi, sou do Brasil, tenho um Honda Fit igual ao de vcs...
Every bloggers' video has the same problem. When people talk we need to increase the volume. When no talking music is so high that we need to put down volume. Imagine how many times we do this. Because someone might be in hospital or at bed or at night job or many reasons.
You may say use your earphone. But even with earphone you listen suddenly awful music starts loudly.
I would say most of you are unprofessional.
If I'm wrong go to quite place. Play your video and check it..
UA-cam pays you per video on duration of it. Not on how many times being watched.
Yeah and the music choices are always so weird!
You are so right.
All that under support part is just ridiculus.
See other videos with some simple tubes with rubber, or just thin wood with a movable support
Deixe as medidas e como fazer achei top.
Why?
It was really fun! And we got several fun and spontaneous trips to the Sierras with it. More than anything - it helped us learn the process for when we get a larger vehicle - I could definitely use a few more inches of headspace!
Ryan Fields That is crazy.
@@seanwebb605 Cheaper then a hotel, spend money on cooler things like white water rafting.
@@HondaFit4Adventure Than Not then. Why convert a car for this purpose rather than purchasing a vehicle purpose built for these uses?
@@seanwebb605 Not everyone has and extra $10k-$30k laying around to purchase a new vehicle so they work with what they have.
I eventually plan to purchase a van, but until then I'm working out the quirks in my car. Mostly everything I've purchased can be transferred over when the time comes.
(I'm not supporting this product though, lol)
Nice if I was a foot shorter
I'm 6'5
amazing.. can share drawing?
I'll have to look and see if I still have that paper around with the measurements - We're planning on taking a trip to the Sierras this weekend and I hope to get a bit more footage using the platform. We've added a mattress and it is very comfortable
@@ryanfields4146 ok.. tq
@@mystory5934 I made the same platform, too.I shared my drawings on my youtube description. Thanks to Ryan Fields. ua-cam.com/video/MFHLqsR3Czg/v-deo.html
