CLEP Western Civilization 1 Study Guide - www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep/
Thank you so much! I was stupid and only left myself 3 days to study for this test and thanks to this video, I passed with a 50! Amazing prep.
Congratulations on your success.
I used this video as my only study and I passed my CLEP with a 57 score (test is graded on scale from 20 to 80; my school requires a passing score of 50 or better).
Congratulations on your success!
I received a 61 with the help of this video and Modern States! Thank You!
Used this as my only study method and was able to get a 53 on Civ I and a 54 on Civ 2. I only watched the videos once on double speed, but I did have some prior knowledge of history (favorite subject). Total study time was less than 5 hours. Some tips based off my specific tests:
Civ I
- Study differences between Punic, Peloponnesian, and Persian wars. It is useful to not get any of them confused.
- Roman emperors & general timeline of how Rome rose / fell. Specifically the societal changes between each era.
- Early English and French history (Charlamagne, etc), a lot of content on religious impacts.
Civ 2
- Study Enlightenment - try to memorize a few key books and ideas from each of the important players (Voltair, Adam Smith, etc).
- English monarchy. This one got me because I was never interested in them, just know the succession between Tudors, Stuarts, etc.
- Protestant reformation and impacts on Europe.
- Napoleon / European imperialism and colonialism.
- Not too much on WWI or WWII other than general questions.
- A few very specific Cold War questions on Slavic leaders. I just used process of elimination.
Overall they arent that hard if you have a general interest in history. Many of the questions are one step past just memorization though, so you will need to apply your facts that you memorize. I recommend this video and a few other readings of specific time periods to get a feel for how things were for society during each phase. It helps a lot in eliminating wrong answers. Good luck!
Congratulations on your success!
Thank you
I'm glad for the majority of this video we had the women teacher (sorry I do not know her name), I just know she spoke very well, explained thoroughly all the major ideas and everything had a really good sequential flow to it.
She was very intellectual and laid the concepts out so it flowed well and was easy to understand. Plus she was easy on the eye ( no disrespect ) in a classy way. Of coarse the last one had absolutely nothing to do with the learning experience,
Don't mind me, just breaking down the video into timestamps :) planning on taking this clep exam because I am a junior doing dual enrollment who got a 3 on AP World earlier this year and doesn't want to take a history class next college semester :)
section one: 00:02 - 38:42
section two: 38:43 - 1:18:58
section three: 1:19:01 - 1:55:21
section four: 1:55:22 - the end
When are you taking it?
I passed today (score of 59). I think for most people this video alone is not enough. I Watched this video once and read a text book and that was what got me this score. I didnt take any practice exams and only left myself 2 days to study. That being said I have a passion for history and pretty extensive background knowledge. It probably wouldve been less stressful if I gave myself about two weeks and took some practice exams. I have western civ II in a week now so back to studying!
Congratulations! You are correct in that our free videos are just a sample of some of the material you may see on the exam. For a more complete review, we always recommend our Exam Secrets Study Guides. We do offer a guide for Western Civilization II if you are interested. It is available at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.
This was a super helpful base! Make sure to dig into other resources though. There are a lot of middle ages questions. More reformation info is helpful too.

Taking my test this Saturday. Feel free to reach out to me afterwards to find out how it went!
Good luck on your exam.
Hi Zach, How did it go?
Ur awesome
Thanks! We are glad you found the video helpful. For more CLEP review, check out our study guides at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.
Does this still help in 2018? I am taking the CLEP Exam tomorrow and solving the study guides from CLEP REA was completely different than what they taught? I could barely answer 15 out of 120
Yes, this content is still valid. It is just a sample of what you may see on the exam, however. For a more complete review, we would suggest our CLEP Exam Secrets Study Guide. You can read all about those guides at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.
@@MometrixTestPrep Purchased! Looking forward to see what it offers
Passed with a 50 🙏
Is this information still relevant in 2019 or have they restructured the test?
Yes, this will still be helpful. It is just a sample of what you may see on the exam, however. For a more complete review, we would suggest our CLEP Exam Secrets Study Guides. They are available at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.
How similar is the “Official” practice CLEP test to the Official test itself?
Hello, I'm sorry but we don't have that information. We do offer excellent Study Guides for CLEP exams on our website. Check them out at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.

Death Equals Symmetry
did you only watch this video and passed?
Obaida Shwaiki no I took the class as well but I made c's my last two semesters, which is when we covered rome and MA
My test after tomorrow any advices?
how did it go
I'll add that the Romans had a rough time becoming into a Republic in the first place, even before Carthage the Romans had the Samnite Wars and invasions from Greece by Pyrus of Epirus who defeated the Romans, but retreated cause of the political dispute at home, he was killed during a battle but if Pyrus would have won his political disputes in Greece he would had been able to conquer Rome. Also, the Romans didn't have superior weapons, what they had was balls and pure will. Rome fought enemies who had superior weapons and training, but it was Roman ability to adapt and to replenish their numbers that won the day. Gauls for example were much better fighters but lack organization. Spain had also better soldiers who used the short sword which the roman copied; Africa had great skirmishers who were too fast to hit and had great range with their javelins. They were all conquered by pure Roman will and militarism, not superior weapons.
1:31:53 -Charles V was eventually forced to abdicate his THRONE (not thrown)....
I took this test and scored 45 only, not enough to pass. But this is still a great study guide with a lot of info. However the actual test has heavy emphasis on the rise of Christianity and main figures in medieval times, which I know literally nothing about.
We're sorry to hear you weren't successful on your exam. This video is only a sample of some of the material you may see. For a more complete review, we suggest our CLEP Study Guides. You can read all about them at www.mometrix.com/studyguides/clep.
It''s Ok. I understand. The video is still very useful because I was only 5 points away from passing. Imagine if I had studied your CLEP guide. :)
Alexander the Great wasn't born until 356 BC. Fix your slides.
Hey there, Wandering Soul, would you give me a timestamp for the error? I glanced through and it appears as though we only have one section regarding the 4th century BC when Alexander the Great was born. I appreciate your help and attention to detail!
@@MometrixTestPrep: My mistake! I forgot that the 4th century includes 399 BC to 300 BC.
