- I'm back from Cali! Flipping my JK Designs Monarch but this butterfly knife is sad, because it has no more handle gap. Very big sad and I wish I could fix it.

I had read a lot about people with the monarch issue but never expected it to be this drastic
I find it so genuine how knowledgeable and inlove you are with your knives. Especially because it shows how you're a hobbyist over being someone with youtube channel about something. Which is awesome.
You could try and find a local knifemaker and see if they had a carbidizer for frame lock knives or something and harden the little titanium bit on the handle. I don't even know if that'd work but it'd be worth a try. Idk just a thought.

I could not imagine spending $1400 on a "premium" balisong only to have to end up ghetto rigging it with epoxy to fix its design flaw. I would be immeasurably disappointed and probably just sell it to recoup some of that money tbh
For real man, I don’t get it either seems like more and more makers are focusing on putting out a product that they can charge as much as they can for rather than making sure said product actually works as intended

Idk why pinsless became so popular. Hidden zen pins are a goated way to solve the look of zen pins if you’re that stubborn lol.
If done right like the orca it can be amazing

Such a beautiful knife, I've never had a "premium" knife, my fanciest is my red Krake Raken inked tanto, it's crazy to think even the best and most expensive knives can have problems though. Also seeing a "premium knife" get flipped after handling a worm gave me a chuckle! Love these videos! You're my favorite Bali content creator!

Tig welder. Either a build up on the tang or some tacks on the handles if you care that much.
Professional welder here. It will work. Won't warp the handles.(if someone with actual skill does it) They should have been hardened and tempered better in the first place...

i have thought about why dont premium knives that are pinsless like the monarch have steel l's on the inside of the handle you could mill out a portion at the base of the ears of the handles and set the l's in so the force is not pinpointed in one area. this is a common thing in folders with linerlocks but im not sure why its not more common in balis

weld the titanium and build the material up or TIG weld a stainless shim in place.

Imma be honest I've been using boot repair glue on my old beaters to fix handle gap and it works hella good I'd just put it on the titanium part don't need much
Clean it really good with alcohol beforehand too and if it was my monarch I'd take it apart

A little invasive but you could find someone to Tig weld more material onto the handles where the blade hits and see if JK can mill it back to a better fit

Ask Julien if he'd be willing to make a custom blade for you that has more material on the blade where the handles contact the blade so that you have that handle gap again. It would be wayyy cheaper to do that then getting new handles

I am a somewhat new balisong flipper, i have been flipping for about 8 or 9 months, decided to get really serious about a month ago, why exactly is handle slap bad?

Honestly just have Julian give you heat treated handles, I don’t see why that hasn’t been tried yet. Or if it was and didn’t help then that’s quite shit because that’s what’s supposed to improve the V2 Monarch.
Wouldn’t it be possible to just get new handles sense it seems that the handles are the issue? Or if not just get a V2?
