    You just saved me $50-$60. My problem was not the clutch slipping, it was the speed-selector in the middle. UA-cam saved the day once again with great how-to videos.

    Thank you for the note about the gear selector being between settings producing symptoms similar to a bad gear set. It saved me some heart ache, time, and money at a crucial time.

    It was the selector switch in a goofy spot. Saved me grief. Many thanks

    The chuck WILL NOT just come apart with a tap of the hammer if your drill has seen any use. Luckily you're already replacing the gearbox so it doesn't matter if you smash it to pieces to get to the end of the shaft with some grips, like I had to. Other than that, top video. Very helpful 👍

    If the chuck won’t break loose then you can disassemble the gears on the old gearbox after it’s out of the handle and I believe it was a 9/32 socket that fit on the input shaft. Long handle ratchet on the input and the Allen wrench in the chuck seemed to work pretty well to break them apart

    If the speed-selector switch is in the middle between "high" and "low", the motor won't couple to the chuck and it will feel like the gear assembly is shot. Check this before ordering parts!

    Question: Can I convert my Makita regular drill into hammer drill since hammer drill function is part of the gear assembly?

    • @garethgedamke7348
      @garethgedamke7348 4 роки тому +1

      I would think not. The gear assembly is larger on the hammer drill and wouldn't fit the housing. Also, the hammer drill takes a lot more power to run, so the armature is larger.

    My chuck would not undo. I had to cut the gearbox to pieces to get to the shaft before it would undo. Job’s a Good’n.

    That was a gearbox swap, now try repairing the gearbox and post it!

    Don't waste your time would be my advice. I bought a gearbox, but couldn't seperate the chuck. Not amount of impact would loosen it on a DHP453. In the end , I bought a chuck as well,. It the cost was like 20% less than buying a body only replacement.

      So, are you suggesting trying to remove the chuck before purchasing parts?
