      Cheap? Talk about 1000 USD/month for one child at a decent private school, or 2000 USD at the International School Manila.

    I’m American and we live just outside Davao City and own our home. Our property is unique. It’s like living in the province, but we can be in a very developed area in less than 15 minutes and get anything we need, we spend about ₽40K to ₽50k per month. we are very simple people and we like it that way. We travel 3 to 4 times a year and have a good lifestyle. We use Aircon when we want and don’t worry about the bill in this area. Cost are definitely less than the northern islands we did some traveling last year because my wife’s son was very ill and I definitely noticed the cost difference in Dagupan about an hour and a half west of Manila.

    Beautiful couple Adam and Jane❤ plus their gorgeous daughter. Yes inflation is crazy. There was a time here in Luzon when a truckload of tomatoes got dumped on the side of the road due to oversupply, and then whatdyouknow, a kilo of tomatoes now cost a fortune almost 1k a kilo. Thats why i love your garden coz its self sustainable with all those fresh produce from garden to your dinner table.
    Anyway it's that time of the month aka Annual Report😊 make sure you register at immigration eservices. It just got easier coz you can do virtual and pay online.

We don't need much considering we are living in a room at her parents house deep in the province. I run my aircon 24 hours a day in our room and our electric bill was 3400 pesos for the month. A big chunk of the budget in the Philippines goes to food. That says a lot about the state of the country's agriculture today when land is in the hands of more owners - inefficient. It was not this way in the recent past when land was a bit more consolidated. For a family with less than modest means, the little produce from a garden like what you have will really go a long way in stretching the food budget.

    I've been watching many videos for about 3 years now and cost of living over there in many areas. Outside the big cities always is cheaper. There are frugal Americans who I know are living there retired on tourist visas quite comfortably for about $900 USD in essentials monthly. Rent included in $80 / mo. apartments they remodeled to their standards on long term leases. Added AC paint flush toilets..... and made them very comfortable ! Several are in Trace Martires / area - only an hour S of Manila Airport. Great location for access to Manila w/o the big expense. They are very small but a nice ''homebase'' for those who like to travel a lot. Travel expenses are extra & over the $900 amount. A nice enough life however for any expat who wants a relaxed retirement. Everything needed is easily obtained in that area. - - - Other frugal but comfortable examples exist in Lipa City on $800 budgets - a bit farther away from the big city. - - - Nice thing about the Philippines is that you can have almost any budget you require or desire. > Location --&-- Lifestyle will determine the cost. 👍🙏✌👋👌🍺

You can rent a 1 bedroom condo in Mandaluyong, Ortigas, in Manila and Quezon City, in Alabang and Pasay City, in Makati hopefully BGC also for 10,000 pesos. This was the best decision and we pay now zero electric and zero water because we have our own deep well. If you buy food from the local market it is still okay. I think that is a global problem and always complaining doesn't reduce the prices. The positive side where we live is that almost no foreigners are living here who bring prices up because they always say that it's cheap....

    Lots of pandemic city escapees apparently. The main expectation one has to understand is that living in the province requires a very high level of self-reliance to achieve what you need to live there. Not difficult but just very raw conditions, minimal infrastructure, wilderness environment, it can feel very isolated, but you quickly realize that is better than living in a provincial community with lots of loud people and animals around you (Karaoke morning and evenings lol). I myself moved, literally dropped everything and was afraid of unreasonably overreaching rules and mandates controlling my day-to-day in the city and the impending sense of the high-population descending into a scarcity mindset in a confined urban location setting in. Luckily I had an old piece of property about 12acres I acquired a few years back and immediately built a guest house to accommodate my stay while I acclimatized to my new location on Guimaras Island. Took a year living there to study and plan for the main residence, sun exposures, seasonal effects that sort of thing, and used that experience to create an appropriate living setup. You can work on the sustainability aspect once you have your basics ready.

      Good luck my friend, it's a great plan. Sorry but it's impossible to estimate the land tax as it would depend on the land zoning rates etc they can vary drastically depending on type of land. We wouldn't be able to advise about tax as everyone's situation is different. Generally you wouldn't be taxed twice on the same income as there is a tax treaty between the Philippines and UK.

    I think a lot of viewers would be interested in knowing how much you have spent for your house so far. The purchase of the land, the initial construction, maintainance, repairs and renovations, both inside the house and in the garden. If you take that total and divide it by( p30K x 12 months = p360K) you can calculate how many years you could have rented for that price. Then everyone can make out for themselves what suits them best, as the choice to buy or rent may depend on so many considerations that are different for everyone.

    $500 - $650 per month for a family of three sounds reasonable to live a comfortable middle class Filipino life. That's if you own your own house, exclude healthcare insurance, buy your meat and produce from a local market, eat and live like locals, no booze and extravagant eating out, and mostly use local transportation.

    • @AdamandJanesLifestyle
      @AdamandJanesLifestyle  12 днів тому +2

      We buy our meat from supermarkets, have healthcare, eat out several times a month, own and maintain a car and can still do it on our budget. It's pretty easy to stick to and we are disciplined. A budget doesn't dictate a class of living though as it's not income. If someone spends all of their income they don't build savings for a contingency or move forward with any plans they have for life. Have a good day my friend 😊

      Things definitely have gone up in price my friend but budgets don't determine class. Income does... but not always. Someone with no income can still be considered high or middle class and someone with higher income could still be considered lower class. There are many different factors when determining class. Assets, investments, overall wealth, income, debts...

Avg. costs per month in Canadian dollars: Electric $120, Natural Gas $70, Water $125, Internet $90, Property Tax for a single family home similar in size to your $650, Property Insurance $180, Car Insurnacr for 2 cars $125, Groceries $700 for family of 4. We don't have a mortgage or any other debt, but others typically pay $2000 to $5000 per month for rent or mortgage and $500 to $1000 for a car loan or lease. No health care costs as we have a public system in Canada.

Sit down as a couple and have intelligent conversations, establish realistic plans-goals-timelines and then execute using patience and salary earning dollars instead of pension/savings dollars.

  • @imcaufieldholt
    @imcaufieldholt 12 днів тому

    Some constructive criticism… you give very precise figures for rent (I know you own) and utilities, but then go into a vague discussion on food and completely dismiss education and medical costs… all are variable and I think people understand it depends on personal factors… so my criticism is that you should just be consistent. Otherwise all you said was “we spend 35k on stuff and looks like we are going to spend more”. For example, for us in Metro Manila:
    2 people, 1 bedroom condo per month
    Rent: 20,000
    Electricity (2ac units): 3300
    Water: 250
    Groceries: 20,000
    Eating out: 10,000
    Transport (public no car/bike): 1000
    Visa: 2000
    Private medical: 3500
    After that it’s all for travel. November in Hong Kong cost 100,000 for the 2 of us for example

    • @AdamandJanesLifestyle
      @AdamandJanesLifestyle  12 днів тому +1

      We said education and medical are impossible to quote for as are completely dependant on individual situation and circumstances. Education can be free but can also be as much as 200,000 per semester. Medical can also be completely different due to age, pre existing conditions and level of cover required. These are a case of how long is a piece of string. There is no individual answer. Also what we spend has no relevance to anyone else as their situation and circumstances will be different. We don't give a figure as everyone would need to do due diligence first in these areas and factor them into their own budget.
      We said at the start this was our budget and how much we spent but giving precise figures helps no one therefore we covered the important ones. We also don't give advice and some people look for very specific figures before moving. That can never be done due to inflation, variations and change of circumstances. Living here for 4 years we have done far more than we even show in our vlogs and have experience of virtually everything here.
