Thanks Jay! I’m in the hospital over nite as I answer my comments..that’s why I planned the video release last nite!! Surgery went well, been having a little discomfort, but it’s manageable. Hopefully, I will be getting out Saturday....thank you again!! Take Care-Larry
For old radios like that I bring out my Weller soldering gun its a dual switch iron 90 watt to 140 Watt iron I can melt that old solder real quick. Cleaning terminals on old switches and volume controls is a good one. So cleaning up the old volume control off and yep by golly it was dirty. You are well on your way. Good luck with your surgery.
Thanks Double L!!! I had a pistol grip weller 200/250 it bit the dirt back in the summer...I bought a large 200 watt pencil to replace it, looks like the ones used in those pics/videos of radio assembly like....I use that for chassis and such.....I was hoping to find one at a hamfest??? Surgery went well, should get home Saturday....Take Care- Larry
Thx Sean, I think we have some more issues with this set....when I get home...hopefully today, I can take a look at it Monday....I need to build one of those big loop antenna for my work bench....I am only using about 20 ft of wire in a basement...Thanks for watching and commenting!! Note: this is why I had the video to load on Friday nite, so I have comments to read and answer today while waiting for discharge...lol....Take Care-Larry

Thanks Bob! The plate voltage on the audio tube before the 6f6.....it’s a bit squirrelly. I cleaned the tube sockets a bit and the voltage went up...but now down....Thanks for watching! Take Care-Larry
@@YouAllKnowBob Thanks Bob!!! I cleaned all the connections, there I stopped...I already had this vide uploaded to go public at 7pm....with only one day left to the survey and prep....I wanted to get part 4.1 out....so, hopefully I can get back to it on Monday...that would be a good way to put an amp meter in line to see the current!! Thanks for the tip!! Take Care-Larry
It's probably just my eyesight, but I don't see a wire coming out of the shield can on the right in the back...the grid cap wire...it might be there and I just don't see it. Perhaps an alignment will improve the reception. Hope you are back in top-notch shape after the surgery. I Miss seeing more videos from you but care far more about your health, safety, and happiness. Hang in there my friend!
Thanks Wayne! Its your eyesight....lol....just kidding...that is the 6J5 2nd detector/AVC....it doesnt have a grid cap....I have been working on it and have done an alignment...it did improve reception a bit.....still working thru some issues with the AVC...another video is in the works now...as for the surgery, been 3 weeks ago yesterday....I guess Im healing on or a little ahead of schedule, but....not fast enuf for me.....Im still on restrictions which means not much......Dr said after a month I can lift again, plan on hitting the gym....hard....been walking and got a 5k in this week at 11:20 min/mi....fast walk...lol....but mainly just walking now. Dr says healing takes 6-8 weeks...I leave for the AT April 4.....anyone who wants to follow me can go to OldManHikes....UA-cam channel...I hope to do short updates as I can. Thanks for watching and commenting...Take Care- Larry
Thanks Larry for another excellent video! There were a number of interesting aspects to this video. One of the things I noticed was the clear insulation on the leads of the replacement capacitors and resistors. Is that a form of Heat Shrink tubing or just clear tubing? Where do you get it? It always amazes me how small capacitors and resistors are today compared to the original ones in the old sets. I mean, a small 5 watt resistor today is so much smaller than a 3 watt of years gone by. I noticed that the cans around the tubes appear to be quite rusty. Do you have plans to remove the rust, shine them up, or at least paint them to make them look "better" or simply leave them as they are for a more ancient look? Just curious what your plans are. This one seems to be lacking a lot in the way of sensitivity. I imagine that once you do an alignment that it will perk right up and bring in a lot more stations. Please correct me if I am mistaken, but it appears that the way the tuning capacitor is installed (and the original installation as well) that the entire capacitor is isolated from the chassis by the rubber parts that you replaced. But that it needs a ground to the chassis, therefore the braided straps to connect it to chassis ground. I am trying to understand the reasoning behind how it is installed. I mean, if the stator of the capacitor is supposed to be at chassis potential, why did they not design it to be screwed down to the chassis? Really enjoying this series. Looking forward to the next one to come! Praying for a successful operation! Take it easy and hang in there! Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, and Stay Happy!!!
Thanks Wayne!! First off surgery went well, the pain is decreasing and manageable.... The spaghetti tubing I believe came from Sal’s I will try to find out where when I get home... The shield do have a bit of rust....probably a bath in evaporust and see how they look....maybe some paint will help the looks...I will decide then, I try to stay away from changing something (especially looks) we will see.... The reason for the capacitor being floating but still grounded with the straps is just a shock absorber....keeps the vibration of the transformer from drifting the tuning condenser by vibrations....Thanks for the well wishing...Take Care-Larry
I did notice you look for the ground side of your coupling/bypass capacitors. How do you do it? I use a scope. I hope all goes well with your surgery. Take care.
Thx! Surgery went well, now the healing begins!!! A little sore....hope to go home today...will be laying around the house for a week, then I can start walking, just no lifting for 3 weeks...thanks for checking and on me!!! Take Care-Larry

Great work Larry, nice job with the space claim with those electrolytic capacitors! Hope everything went well with your surgery!
Thanks Gregg! Electrolytics are so much smaller today than then.....Im healing well, go back to Dr tomorrow for followup....Take Care-Larry

@@Backtothefutureradios I didn't know you had a AT page. What is the name?

Did you change resistor 36? Maybe it's flaky which is what feeds the plate.
