A man driving a Bentley (a real one!) in New England with his beloved is a King. This is true luxury, true fulfillment and true happiness. Greetings from Brazil.
Oh PLEASE take another trip in your gorgeous Bentley & film it for us! I cannot tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, it almost felt like I’d taken a seat in the rear & was travelling with you both! Everything about this clip was beautiful, the stunning Bentley, the lovely background music selection, seeing the countryside & your commentary was perfect! It was just such an easy, relaxing video to watch . . . I live in a similar countryside setting to you & now you’ve got me hankering for a grand old lady like yours to cruise around the lovely wineries near my home! Well done!
When new and in the UK, where things are smaller, this car stood out in traffic as a highly conspicuous, very deliberate status symbol and a marker of conspicuous consumption. They were tall and physically large (on our roads) and their presence was unmistakable. These days, they look so small, so modest, so stylish. In the absence of the slightly classical geometry of the R-R grille, the T has its own smooth, undercover elegance. This is a toweringly good car.
Thanks! Strikes the right balance I think, as being stylish and interesting, but not terribly ostentatious. It creates a lot of curiosity with people. From all walks of life, really. When we had a Silver Shadow, once we had bottles thrown at us while driving through a rough neighborhood. But never experienced this reaction with this car.
Glad that you saw Harry take the old Rolls to the Arctic Circle. But Harry also had a problem with the Contact Breaker Points too! If I owned either a T1 or a Rolls Silver Cloud, in fact - any old car with Points, I would explore the possibility of a Hall Effect Ignition System. They work extremely well, and cures many of the ills that everyone experiences with the old Contact Breaker Points. No adjustments - not ever again. All cars perform better when this is done. Pertronix is a type of system that can be used, but I am not certain if they cater for V8's. Honestly, I would love to see these types of shows on TV!. I would be living on my nerves, driving that distance, without a few grand in my pocket as some form of back-up.
Wonderful. Back in the late seventies my late uncle had the Rolls Royce version of this beauty. He actually taught me to drive in it! This was in Devon in England. We went on many long trips in her. His was in Garnet with pale grey interior. The journey to took was what this car was made for. Sure, the old girl has a few foibles but I am of a similar age and I also have a few foibles of my own. Congratulations on driving that beauty as it was meant to be driven!
I worked in a garage storage compound and found the best way to open a frozen door locks was to put a hot water bottle against the lock and handle for 10/15 seconds and they usually opened up as normal, then tuck the bottle back under my coat to keep me warm.
Thanks for sharing just as good a video as the Jaguar 420 and it was good to see the dog up front not behind some cage at the back and of course you bravely took the car over such a distance that inspired me, so will probably take my Rover P5B on holiday now in the uk if only our fuel was as cheap as yours in the states !
I enjoyed the video and would love to do something like this. I think I would’ve done more basic maintenance, like changing the starter as you mentioned and getting a thorough tuneup with new points and plugs etc. before the trip.
Wow, that is a very rare and beautiful car! Only see an early T DHC come up every 10 years or so. That would be a dream to own, but now much out of our price range.
This is a great video, bring back memories. I received my drivers license with a 1967 Bentley T when I was 16. It was a fantastic car. I drove the you no what out of it and luckily it survived without any issues. Thanks for the video.

Great video and great story. I own a light blue Silver Shadow 2 and with my car as well, going on a long trip in the North of France is always an adventure. Its heating system just decided to quit a few days ago... As a friend of mine likes to put it, with these British cars, everything can eventually be fixed, but unfortunately not at the same time. Greetings for the new year!

Beautiful video beautiful car. Thanks very much for posting this it was very much enjoyed. Rolls-Royce Bentley cars are a class apart from anything else. You can really see that your Bentley is a part of the family and deservedly so. Best wishes from England.
Super-endearing video. We get free samples so we can afford to run our Bentley - you're on my wavelength. My dad had a '52 R Type for 50 years. Built to last.
If you have the problem wih the frozen car lock just pour some hot or warm to hot water over it. Don't try and force the key hard in a frozen lock. You could well damage the key or lock or both.
I love your journey w the dog, you and your wife are a brave couple! My oldest car is a 2006 BMW and I do not have the guts to drive that car to Florida. 😢

Thanks so much for the compliment. This was a rare exception, driving in snow. We thought, "well, it's just a car after all. One time won't hurt." We did wash the underside to get rid of any road salt right away. Which is the killer for these cars.
My late father bought a 13 year old Bentley S3 saloon, in Africa and folks in new Mercedes' would stare in admiration as "she" wafted past. If I had to use just one phrase to describe her, it would be "remarkably civilised"..!!
Your starter problem may be the auxiliary solenoid contacts, which are located within the starter motor casing. It's best to replace the entire starter motor assembly, but get the original design as there are problems with the high geared ones in terms of the gear meshing.
I was in junior high in Texas when the Silver Shadow and Bentley T were introduced. We really did think they looked like bloated Peugeot 403's, especially after the Silver Cloud. But, over time, the wisdom of the company in a complete break with the Cloud proved correct. These were so much more practical; a very wealthy relative of mine bought a new Silver Shadow in 1969 and I rode in it many times. Just so serene; I still remember it.

Hello Mr Arnault So good to see another video featuring again your Bentley T ( Imagine 8 years since it first featured on this channel !! ) Wow, now on an 1800 mile roundtrip from Philadelphia to Chicago in a 50 year automobile .....granted a Bentley T though. Some wonderful snapshots of the road trip, bringing you and your charming wife to face the camera, at Berea Motor Works, the Indiana Super 8 stopover, downtown Chicago and finally Park Ward Motors, these really humanized the video. I have known of Park Ward Motors for many years, and you bring another great character to the wider audience .... Park Ward Motors owner, Rodd Sala ! The video is a wonderful and warm piece of work, and an enjoyable story featuring you, your wife and the Bentley T, plus the enthusiasts who sell and service these great old automobiles. How about a road trip video to New England in the fall ?
@@stringer-ik1pc Greetings stringer 2295 . Probably ill advised, but I will ask .... why do you consider my comment to be "weird" . Feel free to enlighten me.
Please forgive the late reply. I rarely check this! I am glad you appreciated the video and we hope to make more. I actually did not think very many people would be interested in these old cars but it is nice to know there is an interest!
Hello Mr Arnault Thank you once again for the reply .... neither late, early or otherwise. You took the time to make the reply and that is always appreciated. Happy motoring.
A general servicing with all fluids changed, accumulators, multiple suspension bushings, speedo cable lubricated, drivers side wind noise corrected, (door seal), small leather repair, ignition problem sorted, tune-up with new plugs, then shortly thereafter I replaced all rubber brake lines with Palma Automotive.
The tinkle of a Chopin Scherzo as you entered the dealership followed by a character with a gravelly Harvey Fierstein voice who sounded half Australian half Chicago to my British ears!🙂
Just so incredibly lovely a car and a story. Mill Creek Rd. to Gulph Mills to Schuylkil to westbound PA Tnpk? My old commuting route which I miss dearly.
Is this Bentley a car you can live with? By that I mean is the maintenance manageable? I'm not expecting it to be a Toyota Corolla but would just like to know the basic upkeep on her. I love the 1969 Silver Shadow on Harry's Garage. He drives it to see the Northern Lights. Like you I think his only issue were the points. Seems like these cars are good candidates for an electronic ignition upgrade which is inexpensive and easy to install. My father always told his sons to buy either a Rolls-Royce or Bentley as they were the most economical. We looked at him like he was crazy but he explained that they were economical because they were built for a lifetime. And that you only needed one. Very different from today's cars which are engineered to be recycled after a relatively few years. Thank you for a fantastic real world video.
Well, I have the same attitude as your father. That's why we love this car, because it speaks to something enduring, and a different ethos in making something of rare quality. With that said, we go long periods of time with no repairs, and then something unexpected needs replacing. And over time the main components get replaced (alternator, fuel pump, etc...) and those are good for many years because of the build quality. And regular maintenance is crucial. Not a function of mileage, but "time." Example- replacing rubber brake lines every 10 years, other rubber components, accumulators every 7 years or so, oil and fluid changes on schedule (very important). And these repairs are indeed expensive. But considering how newer cars devaluate, and how expensive it is to change cars every few years, overall the cost to own is probably about the same as a late model luxury sedan. So it can work if you don't mind the unexpected big bills once in a while. And over time it evens out.
A man driving a Bentley (a real one!) in New England with his beloved is a King. This is true luxury, true fulfillment and true happiness.
Greetings from Brazil.
That the mechanic gentleman was able to simply fabricate the points speaks volumes wonderful video

Please forgive the late reply. I rarely check this! I am glad you appreciated the video and we hope to make more. I actually did not think very many people would be interested in these old cars but it is nice to know there is an interest!
Hello Mr Arnault
Thank you once again for the reply .... neither late, early or otherwise. You took the time to make the reply and that is always appreciated.
Happy motoring.
What a beautiful car, and a brilliant drive.
Thanks so much!
Fantastic to see you indulge your car rather than yourselves. Wonderful car! Wonderful people!
Thank you, that is very kind to say.
I like the slim big diameter steering wheel free of any clutter. Encourages fingertip direction selection.
Yes, very much so. Thanks for the comment.
Loved to have known more of the jobs Park Ward Motors carried out at the end!
Nice that you noticed that juxtaposition.
Great video please make more soon!!
Thanks for this nice comment. It encourages us to make a sequel and follow-up!
Love your videos and can't wait to have my Silver Shadow back on the road.
Thanks. Happy motoring to you!
Wonderful Travel-Log wonderful car. I have a Silver Spur, I know they become one of the family. Enjoy.!!
Thank you.
Thank you for watching this. I am glad there are others who share an interest in these old cars.
Just so incredibly lovely a car and a story. Mill Creek Rd. to Gulph Mills to Schuylkil to westbound PA Tnpk? My old commuting route which I miss dearly.
Yes! good eye to recognize the road.
Loved your film, hope you got everything fixed:-)
Thanks! Sorry for delay as I don't check this often. Yes, all fixed and she's running fine. No repairs since, just oil change (knock on wood!)
What a lovely video to watch. Perfect!
Thanks so much.
Lovely old car, style you just don't see today.
thank you!
What a great story about an amazing machine.
