To me it will always be the Guardian who pulled the trigger. Narratively it makes sense, it was us who hunted him down, it was us who helped and guided Crow upon resurrection, it. was us who helped him reconcile his two natures, identities. Remove that and give the kill to Petra, like... it doesn't ruin it, and it's understandable if she did it, but it does remove something poetic about that entire arc. So... We shot Uldren IMO.
I almost agree. I am of the opinion we actually didn't. I feel like Cayde would have actually NOT shot Uldren. He chose to initially try and let the scorn prisoners go back to their cages, and he's a huge talker. I feel like Petra was quite wrought and that's why she certainly shot him. I also think this possible ending would be just as if not more poetic, simply because we are supposed to be the good guys. We hunted down someone mercilessly just in the end to realise that killing him may not be the right thing to do.
Petra 1st: Triple tap. Reload. Called a cleanup crew. Shot again. Double tap zombie check. Guardian: - Shot once Spyder: - shot for 3 months. Savathun: - once Psion Assassin: - once Amanda Holiday: - once
I think it's important to note Crow's reaction to us after Savathûn gave him his memories as Uldren back in Season of the Lost. He apologizes and says, "You did what you had to do." So, despite all these clues pointing towards Petra being the canon killer, there are other clues that support both Petra and the Guardian being Uldren's executioners.
I heard the crow say "calm down petra you already shoot me one time" in one of the missions of this season, or in the coil i dont remember, but in sure i heard hin say this thing
Speaking of Vestian, I’m shocked that Bungie didn’t reinstate it considering we had two seasons focused on Mara this year. Or at the very least exempt it from sunsetting like mida mini tool and drang.
I always just considered it to be both Petra and the guardian pulling the trigger at the same time. The game seems to imply you did it, but Petra seems to imply she did it too. Crow can’t possibly know if it was either or both because his eyes were closed
Both guns fired. You can distinctly hear both sounds stacked. Our guardian told the Vanguard, "Uldren Sov is mine," at the beginning of the Forsaken campaign. We said we were gonna do it, and we did it.
I generally think it was both of us. If you look closely, our Guardian hesitated for moment when Uldren asked whether it's the Light or Dark side we're on, but points the Ace back at him, showing a murmur of Darkness that was showing in our Guardian. I don't think our Guardian would aim the Ace back at him if they weren't sure about going through with their vengeance.
It's not about whether it was for the light or darkness. those two elements don't matter. The light and darkness dont care whether you are good or evil. People use it for their own reasons. using the light for their own malicious reasons, using the darkness for the sake of delivering justice.
I personally believe that Bungie let it be ambiguous so that it can fill whatever allignment your guardian was at the time. If you think of your gaurdian as a paladin of good and righteousness, then it was Petra, and you dont have to have that imersion breaking choice made for you. To me my guardian use to be like that, but over time has slowly lost his faith in the traveler and serves neither the darkness or light. In my headcannon my guardian shot uldren because he was on the precipice between light and dark.
Personally and Narratively it makes sense for us to shoot uldren, we are this middle line between light and dark. We are always just Dark enough to wield the Darkness and enact it's multifaceted nuances like hive magic or sword logic but we are also blessed by the Light to such a degree that our moral standing doesn't collapse once we step into a more controlling atmosphere. Sounds and effects aside there are a lot of lore pieces and dialogue that eludes to us both shooting him. Plus season of the haunted clearly in its last cutscenes points to uldren being our nightmare along side Crow seeing as Crow comes to terms with his past but it's us who are face to face with uldren unheard words traded between us as we accept and forgive uldren allowing him to leave witn the others.
Imo, I think they both shot him ,but in the scene just before the black screen our guardian is not aiming at uldrens head, but rather looks like his chest, so maybe his heart?
the dialogue always implies that Petra did it and when you go back to the campaign you clearly hear the sidearm shoot, not the ace. I find this a bit sad, since it would have been amazing for us to be the killer, yet we have to care for him now. Maybe Ace was to damaged to shoot anymore/out of ammo, so we tried to shoot, yet couldn't and Petra had to how am I coming tot he conclusion that it wasn't ace? The first shot fired by Uldren. The Ace has a certain cling to it, very distinct and we have been shown exactly that before when Cayde died
@@Blackchaosmagician11true, but it seems weird that they would leave out the distinct cling. But again, both shots got very modified. I still think it's not, since it is so different from the first one
This was literally confirmed by Crow some time after Savathun gave him his memories back, I think it was the same season when he got his memories back, he said something about US killing him meaning we’re the one who shot him & not Petra.
pretty sure after forsaken, if you talked to petra, she said something about how you both knew “what happened” and that was that, letting the decision be up to the player
i think it was both, the guardian and petra both shot uldren. note that he said she already shot him once not killed him, combined that with the fact of how riven cleed us, it might be that petra just shot uldren but it was the guardian's bullet that was the cause of death.
I remember the scene all to well. Crow laying on the ground as our character and Petra look down on him. I kept hearing people trying to figure out who kill uldren and kept naming different people. Clearly a lot of people wasn't paying attention. It was just uldren, Petra and us so there for no one else could of done it.
Your channel is my favorite destiny channel and you do a really good job at it. I started playing destiny this year and i wanted to know the lore and I found your video of all the lore to light fall and it was really good. I request an updated video of all of the lore to the final shape. And thank you for the destiny lore
It's honestly so cool how they played with the audio because when I remember the first time playing it all I could hear was the classic sound of Ace ringing out. But listening to it again i can hear both guns, so it's really cool how they gave players the choice of who shot him because in my mind I was so convinced that I pulled that trigger that all I could hear was Ace.
I think it might still be both, this season Crow says that Petra already shot him, well she technically did shot at him when he was at the shard of the traveler, she just missed, there might have also been moments where the two exchanged gunfire before like before he was captured and placed in the prison of elders. I don’t imagine he got imprisoned without a fight. I also think back to season of the lost where crow first got his memories back. The first couple of words he says to us feel so antagonistic, (“and you… you…!”) like for a brief moment uldren come back and all the emotions and reactions towards us, his killers, and our actions did as well. I believe who actually killed him is still ambiguous.
his redemption as Crow doesn't hit as hard if we weren't the ones who ended him at his absolute lowest point, plus it's the beginning of our character getting morally darker and eventually wielding darkness.
Yeah,as mad as we all were at him, it's kinda hard not to have conflicting feelings. He was mislead and tricked. It's a very hard choice to make. Shit I dunno.
Yeah, but I still vilified him no matter what (Uldren Sov, not Crow). It is easy being tricked and it is harder to convince to those that they are tricked. But that is not my problem, you made the choice and I'm just fulfilling my hedonistic wish.
First off, it’s not a Star War Han and Greedo thing. With Petra shooting first or the Guardian not hitting 🤣 I think that both shot at the same time and connected. With the final bullet of the Ace of Spades it broke the gun. That’s why we had to go around and find the pieces to fix it.
In the lore cards, Uldren cared about his people before the influence of Riven. And under her influence killed a lot of the Awoken. So in my headcannon, the Guardian puts him down. Not for the sake of revenge, but because there's no way Uldren coulda lived with himself after he sobered up.
No matter what I say to my friends, I can never get this through to them. I always thought it was obvious that it was petra who shot uldren, heres why: 1) the gunshot that sounded after the fade to black was the Sound of petra's side arm, Vestian Dynasty, Not the ace of spades. I know people think there are two different guns sounds in the cut scene, I only hear one. no matter how many times I listen to it, I only hear vestian. 2) at the end of forsaken when you talk to petra, she gives you her side arm, and she says "its the Weapon that... well. you know nothing left to say about that." practically saying that it was the gun that was used to shoot uldren. Now I realize its possible that the guardian could have taken her gun and done it, but it doesn't make sense for her to give it back to us in the way she does, her attitude gives the feeling that she did it and didn't want to look it it anymore. I guess this is just my personal opinion, but its what makes the most sense to me given the evidence.
That sidearm doesn't really sound like that. I think it was us as guardian that shot Aldrin. But the confusing part is if we shot Aldrin in front of Petra why would Petra give us the sidearm.
I think Bungie did a great job in Forsaken leaving the cutscene open for everyone‘s personal interpretation. For me, it has always been me, my guardian, who pulled the trigger. I was emotionally very invested in the story of the campaign and I started despising Uldren, since he killed one of my favorite NPCs and my guardian‘s highly respected vanguard. I wanted revenge, I wanted it to be bloody, I wanted him dead. And I feel it‘s quite charming to think that my guardian rekindled with Crow, reflecting on what she did in the past and how she would overcome her prejudices towards Uldren‘s face, acknowledging that it‘s now a totally different person in front of her that has become a deeply warm-hearted friend to her. It‘s a great twist of fate and a very cool story of self reflection and emotional development, if not emotional and mental evolvement.
I know Vestian Dynasty's shot landed. I feel the firing pin or hammer was damaged after being flung to the ground by force from the Chimera. But i know Vestian landed first after all these years. But if i had to guess, i feel our Guardian shot him in the leg or arm, and Petra landed a heart shot or head shot.
My Honest to goodness reaction in-game when that line dropped during the lair run. "WHA...YOU CAN"T JUST CASUALLY DROP THA...AT THE START OF A...WHY?!!" It's a very good thing my bro hasn't caught up yet.
I truly believe it was both Petra and Guardian, because when Crow got his memories back he tell us "you did what you had to do" plus the lines about Petra pulling the trigger in this season, and our guardian re aiming ace at Uldren, its still technically up to interpretation
Wasn't there a talk between Petra and Crow, this season? - Crow says about Petra shooting him once before... Also, what is to say that Ace had been reloaded since its last bullet (which Cayde had, right??) Cannot hear Ace in that 'final blow', though.
If you ask me, I think that Bungie has changed the sound from the original when you play the story mission. I have always plainly heard the Vestin when that cut scene was played.
Finally someone talks about it, a lot of what we see in Forsaken makes no sense even today, if you believe the context the vanguard has created. Nimbus said "what if everything you have ever been told was a lie?" is a question we will have to wonder too.
You forgot one crucial detail though. When Savathun gave Crow is memories of Uldren back. Uldren said he remembers everything he did, then proceeds to say "And then you..... *Disgruntled sigh*... YOU..." If it wasn't for that line, I would be on board with the Petra theory, but it feels like Bungie trying to make Petra more of a Girl Boss than she already is. Hell, she had more restraint to the thought of doing it in her voice, probably thinking of how Mara would scold Petra for killing her brother. Idk, man. You have something with the audio clips of the gunfire, but I think they shot him at the same time, if anything.
I wonder if Bungie has a scene in The Final Shape, where Crow,Petra and the guardian have a discussion with Cayde about this scene, which will tease about giving players answers, but actually raise more questions instead.
It was always clear to me that Petra's gun fired and it was implied several times in lore that Petra shot him. It's never been clear to me from the sound that Ace was even fired. But I could see the lore being they both fired and both landed. It's be better that way imo. There's a dialog where The Witness (in the Guardian's voice, or as Ghost, I forget which) implies we shot Uldren, but I always thought that was supposed to be a clue that they were lying and didn't know what actually happened. The Witness makes several lore mistakes over time. I always read them a clue they're not omniscient.
It's odd to think about how little yet how frequent attention gets paid to us having unlimited lives. We, as guardians, canonically kill our enemies, never considering that our enemies face permanent death unlike us. What happens to us is often inconsequential, what we do to those we kill is so much more impactful
I think the writers wanted their own "Han shot first" type of moment for D2. also the number of people who either didn't watch or didn't understand this video is too damn high. hint: up to player interpretation!
Unless Riven has something to do with it, a final 'twist' in the tale so to speak, what does it matter WHO killed Uldren Sov? All that matters is that Crow has moved beyond that now. It remains to be seen how this all plays out.
I always find myself confused as to why so many people ask this question. I personally think both the guardian and Petra fired at the same time, why else would the guardian raise the gun back up after hesitation? You can even hear the sound if Pertas sidearm and loud echo of Ace od Spades atleast thats what I heard when I first watch the cutscene. Now if bungie added choices to the story, like small ones similar to the Drifter alliance one, then i can see us getting the choices to either shoot or not and of course Petra would shoot either way but it would some dialog later depending on what you pick.
Bruh during season of the lost Mara was still pissed off at us the Guardian for killing crow and after crow gained his memory of uldren thanks to savathun, crow then understood why at first when we met him back in season of the hunt we looked at him with malice or whatever the emotion was
Both guardian and petra shot Uldren. Both the vestian sidearm and ace of spaces can be hear simultaneously in the audio. Its not much of a debate unless its being retconed - at that points its on bungie to fix their mistakes.
Objectively it was Petra who killed Uldren. Evidence: In the scene when’re Uldren steals a shard of the Traveler he EMPTIES he Ace of spades to dislodge it from the shard. We never see him reload therefore he never did. It’s reasonable to assume this cuz Uldren was in a deluded state. Even when he attempted to draw on the chimera in the final cutscene it was probably empty #2 Throughout the Campain they gave special attention to the sound that the Ace of Spades makes when firing. The sound is a special pop-clink sound and they constantly reinforce it throughout the campain Petra’s gun (Vestian Dynasty) makes a flat gunshot sound it doesn’t even make a “pop” sound just this basic sidearm shot sound. My head cannon here is that although the Guardian was going to kill Uldren with Petra. Our Guardian pulled the trigger but nothing came out, but Petra’s shot did killing Uldren. #2
Crow had his memories of Uldren and straight up says to Petra. "you already shot me once" Case closed. If the gunshot sound in the original cutscene wasnt proof enough
You know what is funny about this, is that crow already told us who shot him? He even said it in one of the line when your trying to found the egg. He said remember Petra you already shot me once.
It's not a mystery the audio in forsaken is very clearly both guns mixed as if firing at the same time the original intent was to let players choose what they wanted to believe whether they were the killer uldren was or not
Should have just given the player the choice as to whether or not to kill Uldren. If the player chooses yes, they kill him. If no, Petra kills him. The cutting to black was annoying to me. Give the players the choice.
@@thearnorianruby4681well if you actually watch the video the real answer is it's up to player interpretation. maybe you shot him, maybe not, up to you.
I feel like despite what might be said, this moment should never have a cannon answer so it can be fully left up to interpretation. In my interpretation of the scene, my Guardian didn’t fire and so Petra killed Uldren. This is because Irl I was having the same feelings Ghost was having, that he was defeated and done, and despite killing Cayde, I forgave him.
Personally, I chose to belive my guardian killed him, at minimum Petra and I shot him. that said, I've also had a running joke/bit to teas Mara about it alot. The very auto you show at 6:13 I thought the something like the following. Mara: "Were you satisfied by you're vengance?" Me: "Mostly, yea. He wasn't the only one responcible for the death of Cayde I know. There was Riven, and Orix (sort of), and you of course, oh and Savathune so I guess I'm halfway to satisfied but we can discuss that when I'm 3/4 satisfied." (this was pre-witch queen so....) Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Mara.

Petra did it. That was not the Ace of Spades being shot. And just to clarify. Even if Crow thought you did it. Remember, he closed his eyes.
"I'm sure you miss it"
Nah she didn't just call Cayde an "it"
He might not have shot Uldren, but I'm not Cayde.
That might be why there was a cut scene in the trailer that has crow looking at Mara saying you knew the whole time like he was mad
Great analysis Evaze!! Thanks for these many videos..i play them while playing D2.
Wasn't there a talk between Petra and Crow, this season? - Crow says about Petra shooting him once before...
Also, what is to say that Ace had been reloaded since its last bullet (which Cayde had, right??)
Cannot hear Ace in that 'final blow', though.
He was referring to the time when he surprised Petra and she shot him
@levicarpenter5509 I thought yhat was Amanda that shot him by accident while down in the Tower ship yard?!
If you ask me, I think that Bungie has changed the sound from the original when you play the story mission.
I have always plainly heard the Vestin when that cut scene was played.
I don’t trust crow, and I feel like Mara has it coming
Your guardian shotinf him was perfect as it explains why they had no nightmares they did everything they could and no regrets
YOU..."
If it wasn't for that line, I would be on board with the Petra theory, but it feels like Bungie trying to make Petra more of a Girl Boss than she already is.
I always thought it was so funny that human nature turned sports into shooting each other to death now that we can brush it off with no consequences
Imma be completely honest... when that cutscene blacked out you could vividly hear petras sidearm ring out
I like to believe that considering how damaged ace was Petra seeing we didn't decide to back down gave us her gun and let us have our revenge
I think the writers wanted their own "Han shot first" type of moment for D2. also the number of people who either didn't watch or didn't understand this video is too damn high. hint: up to player interpretation!
i think it was a slight breaking sound from Cayde's gun once it was fired.
Unless Riven has something to do with it, a final 'twist' in the tale so to speak, what does it matter WHO killed Uldren Sov? All that matters is that Crow has moved beyond that now. It remains to be seen how this all plays out.
The sound effect in the cutscene has 2 versions 1 with Ace of Spades 1 with Vestian Dynasty
I know that Mara doesn't know that Petra also shot her brother. Patra has been keeping it quiet.
I believe Petra and Guardian both shot Uldren
Bruh during season of the lost Mara was still pissed off at us the Guardian for killing crow and after crow gained his memory of uldren thanks to savathun, crow then understood why at first when we met him back in season of the hunt we looked at him with malice or whatever the emotion was
You forgot when he get he's memory's back
Both guardian and petra shot Uldren. Both the vestian sidearm and ace of spaces can be hear simultaneously in the audio. Its not much of a debate unless its being retconed - at that points its on bungie to fix their mistakes.
Objectively it was Petra who killed Uldren.
Evidence:
In the scene when’re Uldren steals a shard of the Traveler he EMPTIES he Ace of spades to dislodge it from the shard. We never see him reload therefore he never did. It’s reasonable to assume this cuz Uldren was in a deluded state. Even when he attempted to draw on the chimera in the final cutscene it was probably empty

Throughout the Campain they gave special attention to the sound that the Ace of Spades makes when firing. The sound is a special pop-clink sound and they constantly reinforce it throughout the campain
Petra’s gun (Vestian Dynasty) makes a flat gunshot sound it doesn’t even make a “pop” sound just this basic sidearm shot sound.
My head cannon here is that although the Guardian was going to kill Uldren with Petra. Our Guardian pulled the trigger but nothing came out, but Petra’s shot did killing Uldren.

Whoa! Thats interesting 7:09
I forgot Mara called Cadye an "it", glad she stopped being exo-ist
Crow had his memories of Uldren and straight up says to Petra. "you already shot me once"
Case closed. If the gunshot sound in the original cutscene wasnt proof enough
Pretty sure it was both the audio of vestian dynasty is very clear and the deep bang was ace there is no way a sidearm would make that delayed bang.
Pretty sure crow is speaking of the cutscene from z short time ago where he surprised petra/she shot him/his ghost resurrected him.
You know what is funny about this, is that crow already told us who shot him? He even said it in one of the line when your trying to found the egg. He said remember Petra you already shot me once.
I remember going back in the cutscene a few times during Forsaken and listening to both Vestian and Ace shots ring out
If we go off the logic that ace has firefly and that we killed him, we shot the heart and Petra shot the head.
My guardian shot him once then went back to the old tower and dug up pocket infinity to evaporate that bastard.
bro really made a who shot johnny video
well, if my guardian is me, I would've unloaded the chamber on him, reloaded, and done it again.
I mean if you listen to the shot it wasn't the ace of spades so that should be the indicator right there.
I sitll think Petra did, that gunshot didnt come out of a Ace of Spades hand cannon. It is nice to see her and Crow getting along though.
We both did, doesn't make sense we're both aiming and only one shoots...
It's not a mystery the audio in forsaken is very clearly both guns mixed as if firing at the same time the original intent was to let players choose what they wanted to believe whether they were the killer uldren was or not
I ain't watching this but still subbed and thumbs up. Simply cause I refuse to except anyone other than myself shot him.
I always thought it was Petra because ace of spades was broken at the time
Well then, Didnt even know this was a topic of conversation
Not really a mystery, If you go back and watch the scene where uldren is shot. He is shot with an energy weapon. That was petra's sidearm.
Yeah, no our guardian did it
Should have just given the player the choice as to whether or not to kill Uldren. If the player chooses yes, they kill him. If no, Petra kills him. The cutting to black was annoying to me. Give the players the choice.
Personally I’m fine with us not know who shot Uldren, it’s a nice mystery that we can never know only guess about.
I always assumed it was the guardian but never new
Thanks for scratching the itch in my brain
Personally I like to say they both landed not at the same time but both landed
Y'all just figured this out now? I figured it out after I replayed the campaign.
Now, I'm pissed. I go through all of that trouble and I don't get to pull the trigger?
Because we considered his words, makes sense
@@reggielacey2235 still. I went through all of that effort and pull a Last of Us II on me?
@@thearnorianruby4681well if you actually watch the video the real answer is it's up to player interpretation. maybe you shot him, maybe not, up to you.
Shot once, doesnt mean killed.
Crow already said in the season audio that it was Petra
And he said in witch queen it was us. Retcon.
I think crow doesn't know and just thinks it was her
I feel like despite what might be said, this moment should never have a cannon answer so it can be fully left up to interpretation.
Mara: "Were you satisfied by you're vengance?"
Me: "Mostly, yea. He wasn't the only one responcible for the death of Cayde I know. There was Riven, and Orix (sort of), and you of course, oh and Savathune so I guess I'm halfway to satisfied but we can discuss that when I'm 3/4 satisfied." (this was pre-witch queen so....)
Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Mara.
There were 2 shots. One a hand cannon, the other a side arm.
Well I'm my head canon, my guardian also killed him
My question is what would Cayde do?
I think someone else’s hand killed Mr sob. I meant Sov.
They better not take my Vengeance away.
To me I killed hands down. She just shot a dead body.
