I'm 99% sure liquids are calculated on a different thread and that's why you can still play completely fine even though another portion of your computer is probably screaming. You can easily get liquids acting weird in game. It happened to me several times making a hellevator
This makes sense. It's particularly funny to just stand on a piece of lagged out liquid with water walking. Seeing how it all interacts with eachother. You used to be able to drown players with neptunes shell/upgrades by having their heads submerged this way but not their feet because they only transformed when their feet hit the water.
As far as i'm aware, liquids won't work if the rest of the game is lagging behind, they'll just stop working until the game's done with the more "important" stuff Which is why when i tried to play it on a shitty laptop, all liquids moved at snail peace but the game ran at a stable 50-60 fps The game can slow down until calculations are done, which is why with the previous lag tests the game froze but started working normally once all the stuff was settled, you can also see this is if you disable frame skip and your PC is crappy enough, the whole game will play in slow-mo but will maintain 60 FPS It's just a lot of pretty clever prioritization
6:50 It’s quite interesting to see that it (apparently) counts which are closest based on taxicab geometry, and not actual/normal geometry. Just for those who don’t know, the taxicab distance to something is defined by the difference along the x coordinate plus the distance along the y (kind of like how when you go somewhere, you don’t drive through buildings because the distance is shorter, at least typically, you just go along the road in one direction and then if you need to you turn and go along a perpendicular road, in a grid-based road system at least), thus the sort of diamond shape you see in the video, whereas the actual distance would sqrt(((X1 -X0)^2) +((Y1 -Y0)^2)), where X0 is the player’s x coordinate, Y0 their y coordinate, and X1 and Y1 being the coordinates of the thing you’re measuring out to, which would generate a roughly circular shape. At any rate, just thought that was interesting- I should probably sleep now. Take care world!
A bit late but I believe the reason taxicab geometry shows up here is actually the exact same problem the geometry got its name from, except instead of roads it's the wire. Terraria explosions are invisible projectiles, what we're seeing is projectile limit, and I believe the order of preservation is simply the wire being handled breadth first, creating projectiles as it goes, and since signal through the wire moves only along the axes..
@@descuddlebat Ahh, thank you for the explanation- quite clever! I didn’t know they were counted as invisible projectiles, and although I barely remember what I was referencing without re-watching, I still do. I've been manually digging out all the solid tiles in the Underworld, and there are these moments where the game just freezes as the Lava is settled in-game.
Speaking of water, try making a massive hole from the calamity mod abyss to the underworld. Since the abyss water regenerates, it will cause the water to fall down, evaporate, regenerate, and repeat. I did this accidentally and for a long time I didn’t know what happened and was reaallllyyyyyyy laggy.
Demon Conch not working? It needs a double layer of blocks several blocks wide to form a platform to land on. The Demon Conch doesn't work on some 05162020 worlds. I had that problem myself on one world and had to research it. Though now I wonder what would happen if you use explosives like the 100k, but buried under ground, how many would actually blow up?
05162020 worlds usually doesn't have two layers of blocks directly in the middle of the underworld because it inverts how usually the underworld is, with the ruined buildings on the sides and big pools of lava in the middle. If you put a platform in the middle, it works as usual.
@@lenlimbo I tried platforms actually and it did not work. Two layers of blocks worked, though. And yes, I did build a bridge across the middle for WoF.
@@HereticalKitsune I didn't mean platform as in wood platforms or so. I just mean a horizontal surface, in this case of two layers of blocks. Sorry if I confused you.
Also fun fact about the magic conch, it will teleport you to the block closest to the edge of the world, provided that it is: 1. A solid block (mud, dirt, sand, stone) so no platforms dont count. 2. It's not submerged in a liquid it also prioritizes height, if a block at sea level is further away from the edge of the world than a block in space, it will teleport you to the block that is in space. I know this because I spent multiple hours digging through the jungle finding a beehive, so I made a glowing mushroom biome in the sky with the mud. So... the more you know.
Myth, If the entire world is actuated blocks (places blocks everywhere) except for right outside the boundary, and you go inside the actuated blocks, then actuate them, you go outside of the map.
me and my bro had a world in console that took about 20 minutes to load because of the settling liquids, and it was due to the fact that we decided to mine the entire world
i theorize the explosives stop working properly after theres too many at once, so it manages the ones closest to you fine, but then has to stop breaking blocks, but then when theyre all pretty much gone, its free for the last explosive to blow up normally again
You could've used the ice rod trick to make it easier to replace blocks in the random block world. Replace dirt with ice rod ice Replace ice rod ice with random block Repeat :)

About the actuator world: Try doing the 1/4 timer thingy while in multiplayer. While on singleplayer, everything stops when the game freezes, but in multiplayer, it doesn't. I think it will result in something interesting.
I wonder if wire contraptions start from the furthest end from the player, to try to make sure it's all loaded. That'd explain the one explosive that went off, it started, and then realized you weren't near enough for those blocks and the effects upon them to be displayed.
I once made a relatively thin layer of honey above a world (maybe 5 blocks deep), held up by one row of blocks. I put a trapdoor in it, so I could let it all flow very slowly over the world. It kept running reliably for many hours... then at some point, it decided it had had enough, and just settled it all, in an instant.
I’m still even surprised terraria can even handle these things, like taking on 5 mil explosives being detonated is still pretty insane for it to not crash SOMETIMES. It’s a beast!
Pretty sure in one of his other vids, he busted this myth because meteors stop spawning once there is enough meteorite in the world. Either that or the wiki stated it

my game crashed one time (I am just guessing why) I was in the dungeon at the start of hard mode getting necro armor because I forgot to before WoF, and then it said, "This is going to be a horrible night." so I'm guessing my crash had something to do with the twins, the other things on screens were a fire wheel and a skeleton sorcerer, so if y'all can speculate what happened that'd be nice
I remember wiring my elevator with around 1000 explosives because I had to widen it and make a barrier for hard mode. That was on mobile years ago, and it didn’t crash
The one time I managed to crash Terraria was by going into tEdit and creating a tree so tall that it went from the bottom of hell to the top of space and then broke it. Not sure if it still works in 1.4 or if it was my computer not being good enough, but there you go.

It happened when i was building a hellavator in the jungpe and manged to mime through a ton of water and when i reached tje underworld it glitched out and now i have obsidian down there and two large lakes. water slowly evaporates in the underworld, so it's likely gone by now I drained my entire abyss in one of my calamity throwaway worlds by just digging a very large hole at the bottom of the abyss and draining the millions of water tiles into hell
