She asked for his opinion, and unlike most of the people on the show is willing to take it from the beginning.

No they made an effort because it's Gordon. The food he was served was the freshly made stuff, but when they serve customers they cook in advance and freeze it and reheat it, which is why the place was failing. They were cooking amazing food and then ruining it by throwing fresh food into the freezer, because she couldn't afford to pay her cook to work full-time. After the show the restaurant turned a very small profit for a couple years and people were happy with the food but then she suddenly closed down due to "personal reasons".

It is incredibly difficult to keep a restaurant's standards up day in and day out. I've worked in many kitchens myself and the owner turnover rate is insane. Even the best one who know food and how to run a kitchen eventually experience burnout and find something else that's more relaxed. If they don't do that, then turning down quality and resorting to quick, cheap substitutes for their menus is usually their go to resort. It's backbreaking, neverending and often very thankless work. If you make high quality food and you have success with that, it's possible for you to eventually become a victim of your own success. The people keep pouring in, more and more each day, all of them expecting a decent meal because that's what you became known for and you have to keep up with demand day after day, with the work piling up and never ending. Nobody can keep that up indefinitely. At some point, you either need to delegate to another cook you can 100% trust to cook your meals according to your specifications or you need to downsize or, as is most often the case in my experience, sell the business to someone else and do something different with your life, as was also the case for this owner.

As far as I know this is the only food he ever said he liked on any episode of the UK or US version and not only liked it he ate ALL of it. The worst sanitation conditions you can imagine are from places like Applebee’s or Chili’s or Friday’s, corporate places someone like GR would never go to cause why would he. But just keep that in mind. The corporate overlords don’t pay their managers shit relative to what other managers at non corporate places get so they don’t worry much about cleaning or cross contamination. You’d be shocked if you went in the kitchen of some applebee’s.
When you work in the kitchen, a commercial kitchen you see some s***. I don't eat out anymore. I prefer my food the way I want it. I don't need anybody else's attitude contaminating my plate. What you see on TV is tame.

My mom's pork cutlets/potatoes/country gravy meal took her hours to prepare. Everytime it would be the EXACT same. It was my favorite meal she made. She also did meatballs with mixed meat and a sweet sauce. Hot beefs, I've never had one better than my mom's. Everyone loved her gravy. Don't get me started on the baking. German chocolate cake, mmm. I'm not being a homer either she use to bake like 500 cookies for a local power companies annual appreciation event. She was extremely talented in the kitchen. Great cooks treat every dish the same. There is no margin for error. This women made me think of my mother. I'd love to try this!

it might sound weird but I think Ramsay is the most sincere British celebrity I can remember. Sure, he is scary when he is angry but I really like his honesty and dedication.
I’m so confused. Everything was so good but everything was so wrong. Frozen, not put together well, and wasn’t the place not very clean? This episode seems dirty in some way. Like it was made to be a very far opposite of the normal Gordon pissed off wanker show.
