Worst Cook: "He's gonna like my dish 100%."
Good Cook: "I hope he likes it."
Interesting point that.
It's like the dumb who think they did very good in tests cause they make out the intelligence with ego
Dunning-Kruger effect. The more incompetent they are, the more confident they get. Conversely the more competent they are, the less confident they get (up to a point, when they recognized how good they are when at the top, which top chef like Ramsay is).
It is the level of care. The bad cooks don't really care what kind of food they're putting out. The good cooks are always worried the food they make is never good enough.

You dirty fellow
G0DLY-Asian- hey no bad language!
This young woman that Owns this restaurant helps under privileged kids , and for gordon to say it was like he was eating his moms food , is truly heart warming , I would love to try this food ...
She's not young and this video is more that 10 years old
I heard somewhere she eventually closed the place down due to external or personal type of reason :/ she has her own YT channel though. She cooks on their with her daughter. Sad to see a great place go. Imagine the energy of that place combined with delicious food. Would definitely be a place to go for comfort food.

Usually you’ll hear them say, “he’s going to like the food” or something arrogant... but all she said Is i hope he likes it 🙂 no one is humble, that’s why you practice humility and it goes a long way 💯
Tony Ch33cks precisely
So if they were bragging about their food, the taste would automatically change and Ramsay would dislike it?
@@wildfire7766 I think the point is more that usually we see these owners and/or chefs dig in their heels before he even eats, saying the food is perfect and if he comments he's dead wrong in advance. Why ask for the help then? This lady just "hopes he likes it" and says thank you when he compliments it. When he says there are things he would change she responds with "that's fine, and we're happy to hear it". She asked for his opinion, and unlike most of the people on the show is willing to take it from the beginning.
@@robbrandhoff3 The way you phrase it, it makes sense. The way OP said it, it comes to look like this was the result of humility rather than cooking skills. So although he's technically right, it's for other reasons.

He couldn't resist calling it a clumsy mess, though! However, he did compliment directly to the chef and owner, which is cool.
Owner was over the moon seeing Ramsay coming with an empty plate
Despite the poor presentation, he couldn't help enjoying the taste.
Kids gonna go far, being unmotivated and STILL managing to cook a plate that came back clean from the most harsh chef and food critic on the public planet.

I think it was more the location then anything else. From what I recall, the place was like in this back alley somewhere so not a lot of traffic. It's the reason why the first rule of a business is location.

@@whyhe11othere but the staff werent a problem either. It was mor unfortunate cimcumstances that led to certain problems. Plus nothing was wrong with the food it just had to be more organized so that way its more appealing
Ramsay mentions how the food is just piled on the plate. Its homestyle.
That's how chefs do it these days, build a little tower of food, no presentation at all

Found out that the food gordon liked was actually been in the microwave.
Me: So chef mic finally proved something to chef gordon huh?
They glanced right over that too
“Was actually been”
No they made an effort because it's Gordon. The food he was served was the freshly made stuff, but when they serve customers they cook in advance and freeze it and reheat it, which is why the place was failing. They were cooking amazing food and then ruining it by throwing fresh food into the freezer, because she couldn't afford to pay her cook to work full-time. After the show the restaurant turned a very small profit for a couple years and people were happy with the food but then she suddenly closed down due to "personal reasons".

Gordon enjoying the food was heart warming
That plate of ribs and sides looked so damn good....
So tenda
The starter also sounds and looks amazing. Catfish with pineapple salsa I believe?
It looked mmm
I remember the entire episode so well. Gordon helped her to grow her business with some useful advice and she actually did end up buying a bigger place coz she had so many more people coming in, but then the restaurant just started reheating frozen food for everyone and quality dropped down big time. Gordon was very disappointed that even though her business looked like it improved, the quality had gone downhill. Gordon is so damn logical. I have admired him for years and this show truly is one of my favourites
It is incredibly difficult to keep a restaurant's standards up day in and day out. I've worked in many kitchens myself and the owner turnover rate is insane. Even the best one who know food and how to run a kitchen eventually experience burnout and find something else that's more relaxed. If they don't do that, then turning down quality and resorting to quick, cheap substitutes for their menus is usually their go to resort. It's backbreaking, neverending and often very thankless work.
If you make high quality food and you have success with that, it's possible for you to eventually become a victim of your own success. The people keep pouring in, more and more each day, all of them expecting a decent meal because that's what you became known for and you have to keep up with demand day after day, with the work piling up and never ending. Nobody can keep that up indefinitely. At some point, you either need to delegate to another cook you can 100% trust to cook your meals according to your specifications or you need to downsize or, as is most often the case in my experience, sell the business to someone else and do something different with your life, as was also the case for this owner.

This lady is legendary, this episode is like 15 years old and it’s from before Ramsey ever started making tv in the US. As far as I know this is the only food he ever said he liked on any episode of the UK or US version and not only liked it he ate ALL of it. Kind of crazy to think about considering how many episodes he’s done!

Ooooohhhmyyyygooooood
“I gotta take a picture of this plate... i know it sounds crazy” i would do the same🤣🤣🤣
I love mama Cheri! She's a beautiful soul. I'd love to meet her and her family someday.
Gordon's opening words to the chef: "How you doing, dude?"
Gordon is 1000% a service industry bro, confirmed.
Did Gordon say “dude”?😂
Her: “I hope he likes it.” All the others: “My food is the best.”
The more I watch this show, the less I feel like going out and eating. No ones know what really goes in in the kitchen
Harihar Gangadharan To be fair though, these restaurants that Gordon comes to help are bad restaurants in the first place that people aren’t going to. The successful places are less likely to pull the crap we see on these shows and that’s why their food tends to be better and people go there, hence no need for Gordon to show up. The show creates an availability heuristic
The worst sanitation conditions you can imagine are from places like Applebee’s or Chili’s or Friday’s, corporate places someone like GR would never go to cause why would he. But just keep that in mind. The corporate overlords don’t pay their managers shit relative to what other managers at non corporate places get so they don’t worry much about cleaning or cross contamination. You’d be shocked if you went in the kitchen of some applebee’s.
When you work in the kitchen, a commercial kitchen you see some s***. I don't eat out anymore. I prefer my food the way I want it. I don't need anybody else's attitude contaminating my plate. What you see on TV is tame.
Gordon said he loved the food. Then realises his food was cooked in a microwave :p
Kieran Oberhansli I see that 😂😂😂☠️
Not all of it
I know right...
Nothing wrong with microwaves, they've been around longer than Ramsey has
Because the chef-culture animosity towards microwaves is performative bullshit. Microwaves have their place.
There was another episode where he hated everything about the restaurant but loved the carrot cake made by one of the waitresses. Lol
This is seriously just like tje moment when ego tried ratatouille
No ones talking about the “ how you doing dude”
The way the show portrays the scene without any music or sound effect makes it more genuine
I mean, if Gordon Ramsay says the food tasted good I'm not going to argue with him but you still see why the place is struggling.
Whys that? This is from 2004 btw.
Henry J Why would I not argue with him or why can I still see the place is struggling?
@@BlueAversion why can you still see the place struggling
Darvin Jackson The decor is uninviting and dated (even for 2004), the food looks unappealing even if it tastes good, heavy use of frozen food and the general management seems to be a bit haphazard.

How smooth that bump up was in the beginning... he bout that life
It’s the only episode that Gordon didn’t leave the restaurant with a hungry stomach.
Man he can eat I thought he just orders loads cuz he just judged the food
Moms cooking are truly the best
It’s so cool that the first time he really enjoys a meal, it’s soul food!
He may not like the method he did finish the plate
I think his food was prepared properly and with fresh ingredients. It's the regular clientele that gets the microwaved stuff.
This isn't kitchen nightmares. Where's the tense music? The exaggerated narration? The dramatic cuts and zoom ins? Where's Nino???

The editor was probably pissed cause they didn’t get to use their intense music/sound effects.
This was from the UK series where the director didn't feel the need to hold the audience's hand through watching a tv show.
The UK version never used sound effects!
I’ve watched this video 20 times and it never gets old idk why
Gordon with the clean dap at the start
"What's he laughing at?" He well understands the truth of your comments; he can cry or laugh, whatever, but his expression need not suit you, Gordon Ramsay, you ain't payin' his wages.

That is such an achievement, to have Gordon Ramsay empty the plate you gave him 🤧
The force is even stronger with this one.
I love as soon as he puts it in his mouth you can see his brain start working to come up with a critique, but then his eyes brows raise and he can’t help but compliment the food

Glad to see some are hitting the spot. Great work.
I remember that episode, one of the best.
"The place's great, the food's great. The only thing you need is NINO, trust me"
Ironic how they call it strong language when it's a product of lack of self-control
Are u implying that chef ramsey has low self control??
Lack of control? Have you seen the condition of 99.9% of the kitchen's‽ I'd lose my fkn mind also!
I think it's just "his thing" like that is what made the show popular was him losing it and swearing and shouting. Made it more dramatic.
If anything Gordon is acting this way out of his own volition because that’s the type of tv personality he’s been building. If you want to hate on him, at least do it right lol.
Explain?
That was one of my favorite episodes, it is rare when Chef Gordon likes anything prior to his intervention.

I ate there before and after Gordon Ramsey visited and changed the menu. I swear to god that it was better the first time. Lots more food admittedly so probably not profitable for mama cherry- second time it was all tapas. Was amazing food though
Daniel O'Connor So just out of curiosity, were the flavors and the cooking better the first time, or was it better because of the greater portion size?

I sometimes think its more entertaining to watch Gordon actually enjoy someone's food.
