It works, it really does. I’ve had the chance to experience it. The amount of gratitude and eagerness to perform those days that you are working is astounding.
This can easily work if you use Monday and Friday as the day that is traded off and used as a weekend. I work 3 days in the office and 2 from home and I enjoy that alot too
We work four day work weeks at my job. With a slight overlap between standard and weekend shifts, we have production almost nonstop and extra hands on 2 days. Not including night shift. Our shifts however are 10hrs. I would really enjoy a 32-hr work week!
The company I work for is trying to do this and I’m all for it we’ve already got stuff shift around to where when shift doesn’t even have to work on a Saturday which is great
4 day work week is the way to go. You are more efficient and you put more effort into the job knowing that you have three days coming for time off. This idea of 5 day work weeks is horrible on people and it does not account for any additional time traveled to work
6:22 - "Instead of laying off 20% of your workers, you have them show up 20% less". Except people don't want a 20% pay cut. Pay already isn't keeping up with inflation and a lot of people work 2, even 3 jobs. The hope I think for folks might be instead of paying me 10-20% more is let me work less. If folks are still doing 5 days worth of work, the company doesn't lose and they dont have to pay more. Seems like it could be a win.
As a trucker the only thing I don’t like about it is losing a day for delivery/pickups. Which basically means we get a chance to increase revenue for the week if we don’t get a long load for over the weekend.
Productivity is the same with reduced working hours because people aren't burnt out, tired, dragging their feet, making mistakes, getting injured, getting sick.... All of this costs time and money. 4 x 8 is more efficient because workers are rested, alert, less stressed and less distracted.
Back in 1998 I worked 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Loved it! One side-effect that occurred as a result was that I wasn’t using any vacation days. It wasn’t because I was trying to save them for something, rather, I just never felt a need to take any. I did end up taking a couple weeks in November of that year, but only because I went out-of-state to visit my parents.
I work for a company who has us set into 4 crews. Each crew does 12 on and 12 off. We work half the year. We have every other weekend off and I can tell you my work schedule on any day of the week for hundreds of years.
My company switched from 5 8's to 4 10's about 6 years ago and I love it. We're more productive and with the change of pay scale, we're earning a lot more money. Plus 3 day weekends 🎉
I used to work four days a week when I was employed with the Detroit dump, but I started every morning at 4:30am and ended my work day at 7:30pm or when the last truck returned from the landfill.
Where I used to work, we had a choice of 3 different type of work weeks. 1. 4 each 10 hour days per work week. You had every Fri. off. 2. 5 each 8 hour days per work week. You worked every week day. 3. Week 1 work 4 each 9 hour days and week 2 work 5 each 9 hour days. It was called a 9/80 rotation. You had every other Fri. off.
Best Job i ever had was 4 Tens . Monday thru Thursday work 10 hour days. Had Friday Saturday and Sunday to enjoy and optional overtime really great company!
Amazon surprisingly is one that has a 4 day work week. We work 4 10 hrs rather than the 8, but I still would much rather work that than come in 5 days a week. There’s even a shift that is 3 12s with 4 days off but it’s a 3rd shift.
I work with the railroad in the northeast near the border our normal hours are 10 hours 4 days a week been like that for the last few years works great
We grew up in school on a 4 day school week in rural Colorado. My father got the winter off from work, so for us it was great, friday skiing, trips to moab. Bonding as a family...for my friends, whose parents went to work, it was an opportunity to get in a lot of trouble....the parents eventually voted to vring back the 5 day week because of this.
For me I wouldnt even need to work less hours a week for the same pay (although that would obviously be great) I would even love to do 4 ,10 hour days instead of 5, 8 hour days. When the majority of your day is already taken up by work, another two hours is not a big deal. But when you have an entire extra day to be off work, its huge.
I’ve done this for years. 2 12 hour shifts and 2 8 hour shifts. Or we can do 3 12’s and a 4. Or we can do 4 12’s and get overtime. Works for us and the company at the same time. Plus we have all paid breaks so it’s even better. 40 hours a week period no matter how you cut it.

My son works a 4 day week with one of the largest cos. in the US. He works Tuesday through Friday. They do get call outs for emergencies and there lots of emergencies due to the nature of their work but I know he loves his job and the co. he’s worked for for twenty years.
Nothing new about the concept. As an engineering student in the early 1980's I toured a small part stamping plant that had a 4 day workweek schedule. Half the staff was off on Friday, the other half on Monday. The owner also only normally worked 4 days a week too (unless called in for a emergency situation). That was 9 hour days (36 hours/wk) ; and they got paid the same as for other people working 40 hours a week. All the employees were very happy...
The company i work for used to do four ten hour shifts and it was amazing. Everyone was happy and we worked hard and most were willing to work volunteer overtime. after the pandemic shutdown they switched us to five 8s and we had three years of mandatory overtime. Needless to say no one cares on the floor and everyone hates management so they get nothing but attitude since we are only worth "competitive" pay. We all get our paycheck and leave. 4 day work weeks work if the "bosses" aren't small minded control freaks that just want to hold power over others.
I work a 4/10 shift at my job. We have two work shifts 5 days 8 hrs if you work the early morning or the evening to night shift which is the 4/10 shift. I choose the 4/10 shift just because i start later and come home late at night sometimes after 1 or 2 am. Personally I prefer the 4/10 shift it allowed me to get personal stuff done in the daytime but now i have 3 days off from work. Fri-Sunday i love it.
I did a 4 day workweek some years ago. it was great. BUT, we still put in 40 hours. Asking a crew to do 40hours of work in 32 is not cool. My company ran 2 shifts a day 7 days a week. We worked 2 4 day work week shifts - We held safety meeting on Wed so everyone had to work Wed. Shift1 = Su-Mo-Tu-We Shift2 = We-Th-Fr-Sa we worked 10 hour days so we still put in a 40 hour work week. There was Shift1 days & Shift1 Afternoon. What the company got out of it was they had people working Sa & Su. !
I’ve worked for plenty of companies that had a 4 day work week. Monday thru Thursday…Friday was expected though. And was frowned upon when you didn’t right on that Friday OT.
Oh, sure, you are going to pay people for 40 hours but they only work 32 hours, a 20% reduction. This is a scam from top to bottom. And how is all of the work going to get done? If it takes 1,000 hours to build a van, you are going to do it in 800 hours? But still pay the workers for 1,000 hours? I don't think so. I don't think I'd travel one mile in that van.
There are many companies that operate with a 4 Day Work Week. 35 yrs as a Teamster and I've ALWAYS worked a 4 Day week. (4 10hr days). And get a few 3 day weeks every year.
For my “next” career, as I will be over 55, I’m thinking of consulting a 4 day week. It will save the company money, they will get pretty much the same output from me, and there is natural downtimes in the cycles anyway.
Most of those fields actually are 24 hour businesses so they have plenty of shift workers to cover the extra hours and work nights and weekends already so actually these businesses can adapt this practice first much more easily than traditional 9-5 white collar work.
It works because Friday is usually a bs day and then you get off early. All depends on the job though. I work in maritime so you work days, weeks, or months then get off the same amount or less but you’re off large chunks and work doesn’t go with you.
I have also worked a 4-11 night schedule. It just doesn't leave much time during the work week for other stuff. And some places, you have to put in the hrs to be productive.
But it is a luxury to be able to work 4-8. We are so blessed to live in a world where we can. So many other people around the world have to work so much more to survive. Farmers and ranchers are two kinds of ppl who work almost 24-7. And there is nothing wrong with it. So working a lot isn't bad. Oh, and nurses and doctors, and daycare workers, etc.
I had a 4 day week for quite some time at a shop that designed, fabricated and installed signage. Honestly, in the fab world, it's really not that uncommon. Though, we worked 4 10 hour shifts, not 4 8 hour shifts. I prefered the 10's to 8's, because it's just how my head works. But regardless, that 3 days weekend, worth it every time.
Pioneers? Please. I worked for a company 45 years ago that did a four day week. We ALL worked Monday through Thursday, with Friday's off. When a three day weekend came around with a Monday holiday, we'd also get Tuesday off, making it a five day weekend. We'd then work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and return to the Monday-Thursday schedule the following week. Only difference was we worked a ten hour day, 7:00 to 5:00 p.m., so by the time Friday rolled around, you were beat.
As a college teacher I make it a point to always aim for as many days off in a row as possible when making my choices for classes, as a result the last time I worked 5 days a week was about 15 years ago, with an asterisk mind you because regardless of what people thing teachers do occasionally work on their days off they just don't have to go into "the office" to do said work.
I wouldnt mind working 12 hours a day for 4 days, and having a 3 day weekend. My weekend starting thursday evening would be amazing. I have almost half a week to do my own thing.
My old job let us work 4 10hr work days and it was glorious. Once you get used to it it's hard to go back to 5-day work weeks
5 days is awful and unsustainable

Teachers get half the year off and get multiple week holidays throughout the rest of the year.. Not to mention their own personal days... How can one complain about that... If it's pay then get a second job in the summer? Start an onlyfans?
A great boss who cares about his employees and understands they have lives and families too I wish every boss was like this guy
God bless the owners heart for putting this to the test!
It works, it really does. I’ve had the chance to experience it. The amount of gratitude and eagerness to perform those days that you are working is astounding.
In the oil and gas industry, it was pretty common to have every other Friday off. I loved it.
It's not about the 4 days, it's getting your old 40 hr job done in 32 hrs.
I work 4 -10s Mon-Friday as a heavy equipment mechanic . Love having Fridays off to run errands and get hammered
This can easily work if you use Monday and Friday as the day that is traded off and used as a weekend. I work 3 days in the office and 2 from home and I enjoy that alot too
no. 4 day work week. 36 hours max.
We work four day work weeks at my job. With a slight overlap between standard and weekend shifts, we have production almost nonstop and extra hands on 2 days. Not including night shift. Our shifts however are 10hrs. I would really enjoy a 32-hr work week!
I work in aerospace manufacturing. We’ve been working this schedule for years. Some of us even have a 3 on 4 off schedule. It’s fantastic.
Have done 4,for many years. Love it. I always liked my three days during the week. Take the travel trailer to the lake. Not many people and cost less.
I loved a four day work week. Only thing my work needed to fix was break times which they never did.
I thought this was four 10 hour shifts! 4x8?? So hourly pay would be less!
My previous position had 4x10 work weeks , this is not revolutionary but it was awesome - didn’t have to use time off/ PTO so much
I used to work four days a week when I was employed with the Detroit dump, but I started every morning at 4:30am and ended my work day at 7:30pm or when the last truck returned from the landfill.
You had every other Fri. off.
I worked 4 day week for years, 4 - 12 hr. days , 3 day week ends 8 hrs overtime required when necessary (always necessary) more optional.
That would be a decent life. 3 days is the perfect ammount to maintain your life and recover
I've worked 4-10s for the last 10+ years. Fridays for overtime if needed. They act like this has never happened😂😂😂😂
But they are getting paid for 40hrs and only working 32hr big difference
@simecekiii true that will be good for about 6 months then the employees will get comfortable and but in less effort.
Than how has it worked for them for over a year and are getting more done? For sure less effort is going in 🤦♂️
Unfortunately, not every business can do this. Depending on production needs.
I work with the railroad in the northeast near the border our normal hours are 10 hours 4 days a week been like that for the last few years works great
I did a 40 hour 4 day work week for awhile it was pretty awesome.
My job doesn't have 4 day work week, but we do have a 9 day/2 week work week. But you still to work 80 hours in the 9 days.
But when you have an entire extra day to be off work, its huge.
it's about time morale was a serious consideration at the work place. happy workers make better products.
This only works for a caring boss like this man… great job 👏🏻
3/12 or 4 /10 is the way to go.
And we are an also in Ohio and a manufacturing facility. So. Yeah. Nothing new.
What an outstanding story and kudos to this owner with VISION.
Of course it works. Do the math people it's not rocket science. Let management and accounting work the magic. It's called efficiency
where i work, maintenance does 4-12 hr shifts 2 separate day crews and 2 separate night crews. everyone works sunday. my days off are tuesday wednesday thursday
My son works a 4 day week with one of the largest cos. in the US. He works Tuesday through Friday. They do get call outs for emergencies and there lots of emergencies due to the nature of their work but I know he loves his job and the co. he’s worked for for twenty years.
Is Mike hiring? Seems like a great owner with his employee's best interest in mind along with pushing the business forward. Awesome piece!
Been working 4 10's for 2 and half years and the company makes plenty of product in that time and it should be used on a lot of office work places.
I work nights 10 hours with 3 days off
Nothing new about the concept.
Yes please
Like they said the employees have to be able to produce 40 hrs of work in 32 hrs in order to have a 3 day weekend so no production is lost.
My hubby's place of business has been doing this for a few years now. They are a supplier for GM.
!
4x 9-hrs a day (max) is good. but 4x 8-hrs is better.
I’ve worked for plenty of companies that had a 4 day work week. Monday thru Thursday…Friday was expected though. And was frowned upon when you didn’t right on that Friday OT.
I’ve gladly worked 10hr shifts 4 days a week for almost 17 years. We frequently work 5, 6, 7 days a week during the busy season which is totally fine.
Sounds fantastic as long as it stays a three day weekend and doesn't turn into me being off whenever is convenient for you during the week
A 4 day work week is amazing❤️ once you have tasted it you don’t want to go back. That extra day to rest and relax truly does work wonders❤️
@@momentary_ Did you watch the video? It says that the employees will work 32 hours a week but get their full salary. It starts at 1:20 of the video.
3:16 WISE WORDS right here.
I work a 9-80 schedule with every other Friday off. We still get to come in that Friday but get paid double time.
Work/life balance in America is horrible. The five day work week is certainly to blame.
💯
The only fields that won’t get a 4 week is emergency services hospitals airports & retail
Most of those fields actually are 24 hour businesses so they have plenty of shift workers to cover the extra hours and work nights and weekends already so actually these businesses can adapt this practice first much more easily than traditional 9-5 white collar work.
More quality time for workers will benefit in the future. It's a win-win situation.
Amazon employees have 4 day work weeks 8-10 hrs for drivers
Yea Amazon warehouses have had a 4 day work week for years
It works because Friday is usually a bs day and then you get off early. All depends on the job though. I work in maritime so you work days, weeks, or months then get off the same amount or less but you’re off large chunks and work doesn’t go with you.
This is the future of work! All of the outcomes of 4-day work week pilots across USA and Europe are very promising for both company and employee.
BS these are non essential employees.
@@Armenian 🙄keep shilling for oligarchs and social elite.
We used to work 3 days at 12 hours, now we do 3 and 4 days. It’s awesome
I really appreciate that he admits that it won't work for everyone. They didn't state clearly if the company remained as profitable.
4 days is great when people actually WORK
Why you hiring people that don't work? I'd be fired instantly if I didn't work
I have every Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday off. I still work 40 hours and I love it. Four ten hour days is great.
nah.need sunlight after work.4x 9-hrs a day is good. but 4x 8-hrs is GREAT.
Pioneers?
So you did nothing like what the subject of the video is about? What exactly is your point?
Every now and then I would work a 32 hour week, unfortunately nobody else was doing it. 32 hours worked just fine for me.
They should try it in businesses where income don't rely on minimum production limit of the employees.
Great idea! But……I don’t see it ever working in the service sector…
I wouldnt mind working 12 hours a day for 4 days, and having a 3 day weekend. My weekend starting thursday evening would be amazing. I have almost half a week to do my own thing.
I work a 4 day week. Its awesome having 3 days off.
my company has had a 4 day and even 3 day and 2 day work week for 20 years
It would also be cool or more companies implemented "Any 80" shifts.
