Don't know if I'm preaching to the choir, but a heads up for you on the vacuum pods for these cars are becoming NLA.
The dual diaphragm pods are all the same between the 124 and 126 chassis except that arms are different. Most of the arms, however have a plastic snap that holds them on and you can take them off and transfer them to a new pod. It is also a place in Tennessee called performance analysis that sells the diaphragms if you get desperate.

    Hi from Australia Pierre
First up i would like to say you have great videos! I have a W126 420sel and a W108 280s and have learnt so much,
I have a tricky one on my W126. It has the auto climate control system and when I start it on a cold day the climate control will not work at no matter what I do, it then after a say 10 min starts clicking under the dash then it will start to work but will switch on and off erratically. All components including the AC compressor, blower, recirc etc click on and off constantly then within about 5 min after that everything works 100% normally until it is left overnight again.....then the process starts again.
    Thanks
    Ben

I would start by replacing the blue switch on the engine..it shuts off the blower fan if coolant temps get too cold

I was just getting back to viewing my problem areas with my 89 190e machine. Thus reviewed the comments on ac unit and signal switch problem. I have not replaced the fan as yet but really need help with repairing the signal switch indecator on the stock. I really don't have a problem with hazard switch. The unit to replace my signal switch is not a problem other than when i get a part i would need to have the right part that is in my car. Thus not going to tear it down then find i have the wrong part. Which number is right for my car?Thank you for your previous replies to my questions.

    Hey Pierre
Where can I buy an interior temp sensor for my 84 126 SD. PUSH button is new programma. Whole duovalve assembly is new MB. Still get full heat on any position except detent. Is there a small fan that pulls air though overhead sensor. Later models have this fan by the sensor overhead and is still available.
When Ac on, the detent will get full cold as supposed to, but when rolling off detent , duo opens by way of temperature gauge drops slightly, this feel a combination of heat and cold via center vents. Going to start with vacuum servos first. Car has 198k. Hate to replace all the servos only to find that temp sensor is unavailable. Your info is spot on, friend. Next time I am Titus, I'll sing by
    Les

Funny about that temp sensor, as I just bought one last week. I think you're parts guy is looking up the wrong number. Call my friend Steve Carrier at MB of Orlando, 407 6216914. He should be able to help you. I think your diagnosis is correct, by the way.
Your car has a monovalve, FYI. Duovalve is for euro models with dual zone climate control. Literally two monovalve assemblies.

oh, my condenser fan on left side is not working but right one seems fine. 134a charge seems good but still need to investigate further

Have you ever observed auxiliary water pumps causing damage to the pushbutton unit? When I had a 420SEL, I had issues with the climate control system and bought a rebuilt unit from Programa Inc. In their warranty statement, they said that they would not honor warranty repairs if the aux water pump was not also replaced. I know some people have wired a 3A fuse inline with the pump to try and prevent damage. What are your thoughts on this?

Alex, it is true...a short in the aux. water pump or the monovalve can hurt the pushbutton control unit...the monovalve coil was even worse about this. i ran into the same problem on a 420SEL. Few people are really aware of it., and I think it is very astute that you have read up on it.

Yeah, if it wasn't for Programa spelling it out in their warranty statement I would have never known. On my 190E and 300E I have the aux water pumps unplugged for this reason, which doesn't bother me too much except when it gets below 10 degrees F outside. It bugs me more that my 190E keeps eating passenger mirror heating elements for some odd reason, maybe I should stop getting $5 mirror assemblies from pick-n-pull yards...
The monovalve is an interesting piece of engineering. I never had issues with the coil, but the insert got a torn diaphragm. Bought an MTC insert for $15 and swapped the diaphragm onto the factory spring/magnet assembly to avoid the no heat after revving engine issue that people complain about constantly on the forums. I think either Gerry from the 500E board or Nik Greene figured out that you could do that swap at some point but I don't remember who to credit.
Don't know if I'm going to keep the 300E, just bought it and got suspicious about the rockers. Took a length of pipe that I normally use as a cheater bar and whacked the rockers in choice places and uncovered the typical no metal around jackpoints issue that many MBs get here in the rust belt. I do have a thing for misfit vintage Mercedes cars though, my other car is a 235k mile 1992 190E 2.6 with an accident history and no A/C, so maybe I'll put new rockers on the 300E.

while checking out my 89 190e a/c hot problem, i encountered an issue with no signal switch blinker quit working. now i have the combination switch out but have read about this where like mine, everything works but blinkers. it seems like i could repair a switch and not have to spend $117 for a new combination switch. what is your view point on this problem?

i'd check the hazard light switch first!
