  • Here's how to disassemble and reassemble a stainless steel PetSafe Drinkwell Pet Water Fountain, including how to take apart the motor.
I'm doing a few of these water fountain videos because I find that pet owners are often afraid of breaking their water fountains, or don't know how to properly maintain them. Regardless of size or shape or filter, all pet water fountains should be cleaned regularly (every couple of days) in order to remove biofilm (think saliva + bacteria), hard water deposits, mildew, dust, cat litter, dirt, and bugs.
I recently learned how to take apart the motor, as well, which seems standard in a lot of pet water fountains. They get very dirty, so it's important to take them apart and scrub them well with dish soap every so often, so your pet's water is totally clean.

    OMG thanks for this video.
We have cleaned it and trying to assemble and disassemble but the water never came up. Didn’t know you cleaned the little parts in the pump. Just cleaned the parts and directly the water is flowing great!

You can also hide the cord behind one of the black brackets.

Just wanted to add a comment telling you how much I appreciate you making this video! I was finding the instructions pretty confusing and this video was like the light parting the clouds. And other metaphors. Basically, thank you!

The choice between stainless and plastic isn’t always just aesthetic. There is a theory that plastic fountains and food bowls tend to lead to chin acne in cats and dogs. Even with proper cleaning, plastic naturally harbors opportunistic bacteria that will enter any tiny scratch or wound on the animal’s face. The chin is vulnerable because it’s closest to the water and food.
I didn’t know there was such a thing as cat acne until my boy turned up with a bad case under his chin. Poor guy was going crazy with the itching. Antibiotics pretty well cleared it up after a few weeks but even the vet had no idea what causes pet acne. I’m willing to believe the plastic connection because it makes sense.
Stainless steel is naturally microbe-resistant so we are going to replace our plastic Catit Daisy fountain with the stainless steel Drinkwell 360 for our two cats. We already have ceramic food bowls so once we get rid of the plastic fountain, I think we’ll see the end of cat acne.

why does it look so easy when you remove & replace the plastic clips-it's extremely difficult & they break easy-anyone else?-where do you get more clips?

A few questions. Our one female cat - we have feral brother and sister Bombay kitties - learned how to destroy the catit flower fountain. She fancies herself to be a little scientist and loves conducting experiments and research. How sturdy are those clips? Could they easily be pried off by little kitty paws. How sturdy is the fountain in general. Could it easily tip over when she's balanced on the very top and pawing at the water trickles?
    Thanks

Nothing is totally cat-proof. This is probably one of the sturdiest pet water fountains there is, as the stainless steel won't break like other plastic or ceramic models. It holds a lot of water, which will help weigh it down. The clips are sturdy plastic, but if your cat is a determined chewer, they could of course chew through it like any plastic.

Was hoping you had a trick to get the top filter to line up with the tube more easily.
Did you know that where the wire comes out... You can put a black clip over it, and then run the cord underneath the clip where it will exit between the two little clip feet.
