    I'm glad I found this video. My wife threw the box and instruction away. I had all these pieces laid out and didn't know what was going on. This video helped out a lot!

    Thank you so much for this wonderful video! We just got this fountain, and our cats love it. (We replaced a smaller plastic pet fountain that they liked but broke the second time we cleaned it, and we find the ease of use, volume of water, optional number of drinking spouts/locations, and noise level to be far superior to our previous fountain.)
    Since we've only had this a week, and my husband put it together so he could be the cat hero, I didn't know how to assemble it or clean it yet myself. When some trash accidentally fell in it, I immediately snatched up the fountain, dumped out the water, and cleaned the fountain and filter, much to the displeasure of the cats who let me know in no uncertain terms they did not appreciate my appropriation of their latest offering. After reading through the instructions several times (it seemed too easy after our last one), I put the fountain back in place, filled it with water, and reassured the cats that all was well in their world. Unfortunately, the fountain just kind of gurgled while they tried repeatedly to sip from the streams that weren't there. Oh, the looks! The tail swishing! Their displeasure was palpable.
    It was louder than I had remembered it being the day before, and there was no water streaming. I thought maybe it had to fill up internally (our previously pet fountain required that) so I waited a few minutes, sweating through the indignant cat stares. Alas, the water was just bubbling gently on the bottom, taunting me with its movement. The cats were not impressed with my performance and continued to quietly berate me. Great, I've broken another filter by rinsing it with water! Argh!
    Before giving in to despair, I thought I'd look for some reviews or videos or step-by-step instructions on assembly in case I'd messed something up by moving it 10 feet to the sink. The manufacturer's website was terrible. Your video clearly showed that the filter assembly had to be aligned with the intake tube, and the two would connect solidly together, which had not been as clear in the printed directions. During the cleaning process, the intake tube had gotten slightly off center. (Upon rereading the instructions, it is there, but I think my anxiety on being the hated cat parent - again - blinded me to the printed word.)
    So thank you very much for your wonderful review that not only discusses how amazingly quiet this generous fountain is, but also goes step-by-step through the assembly process. The cats are still not happy with me, but I'm no longer imagining death threats.

    Thank-you! The only issue not addressed, but I figured it out, is to place the pump so that its black vertical tube sticks up from the middle of the pan so that the wider black tube will line up and attach to it.

    Awesome in-service on the fountain thank you very much I just got mine but I'll wait until the weekend to put it together so I could safely Monitor it for the recommended 12 hours as per manual. Also the mat I bought for it it's a little small to fit the fountain so I have to go exchange it for a larger one thanks again.

      +Puutty Power it's working well and my kitties love it very much I'm so happy I bought it 😬 What a great investment 👍🏼👍🏼 Question if I use filtered water from my Britta do I still need to use the charcoal filter that goes inside the fountain?

    • @puuttypower
      @puuttypower  8 років тому +1

      Michaelangelo Colon sop glad that you and your kitties like it! And, I'm not sure if I can say definitively that you don't have to use the charcoal filter, but if the Britta filer takes out most of the contaminants then you probably don't need it as much if you were using regular tap water. However, doesn't hurt to have double protection and would be less likely to change it out as regularly. =^..^=

    Great review and thank you for contributing your input to this product as I result this is one of the reason I purchased this particular water fountain for my pets. I hope my added experience may be of help to someone else. I purchased the Drinkwell Platinum first to making things more helpful for my care attendants to help me with the care of my pets as I'm physically challenged. I was happy with its' performance it worked very well and my 5 cats all drank from it. Every 2-3 days we replenished the water bottle reservoir ... however after having it for a few months I saw it was a bit awkward and cumbersome for my attendants to manipulate and clean without too much effort (too many nooks and crannies to get into to clean properly). I also wasn't too thrilled with its' over all fountain design ... the bowl is too small, the stationary fountain is centered which when the cats/dogs drink from the bowl makes the water coming down from it go onto/into the animals ear so this became a concern of mine for them. Also the water bottle reservoir is a bit too difficult for a disabled/elderly person to manipulate (removing/replacing), and then there's the cleaning limitations if you are disabled and/or elderly as stated above: too many nooks and crannies to clean hygienically/properly without the aid of a dishwasher. Then with the plastic issue and pet skin irritants, I became even more concerned for the hygienic issues (the best way to wash plastic is through a dishwasher which I don't have). I decided to purchase the stainless steel Drinkwell 360 and the design is perfect ... with the different fountain tops (they send 5 different fountain tops - I use the single flow) I 'm able to position the 360 top where the cats can drink comfortably from either the big bowl or the fountain with out any water going on/in their ear(s) unless they themselves want to get wet. The bowl needs to be refilled daily (remember I have 5 cats) and is extremely simply, just add cold tap water with a container to the bowl itself, with less pets refills are less often. It's far easier to clean too and my cats are more content. I do need to add this final note: no matter which fountain you decide on please keep in mind my particular set of circumstances are only due to my physical limitations, the Drinkwell Fountain line are very good products over all. I wish you and your pet(s) much joy and health. GOD bless you. Peace and Agape.

    I bought a plastic water fountain and the dog loved it, but it was a rubbish one and leaked and so noisy! So it has gone back for refund and I am looking again. I have a Mini Schnauzer, he is on a special diet and needs to drink filtered water anyway and the water gets so dirty from his beard. I also buy raised dog bowls so the dogs don't hurt their neck or back, and my concern with this one is the height of it, although every other feature sounds perfect. The previous fountain was higher I think than this one. Do you have higher bowls (or maybe the dogs would drink from the streams not the bowl)?

    Maybe you should make a new video showing the prefilter being installed around the pump. I would think that you would have stressed the use of the prefilter as it is probably a crucial part of protecting the life of the fountain pump. It undoubtably prevents large debris such as cat hair, lint or whatever crud might get into your pet's water from entering the pump, which has very small inner plastic components which can easily become damaged, clogged or stuck if foreign matter gets inside of the housing. The prefilter protects the pump while the charcoal filter makes the water smell & taste good. Prefilter protects the pet owner from aggravation & unneeded replacement costs while the charcoal one protects the health of your pet.

    A few questions. Our one female cat - feral brother and sister Bombay kitties - learned how to destroy the catit flower fountain. She's quite the little scientist, loves conducting experiments and research. She would love to find the waters source at any cost. How sturdy are those clips? Could they easily be pried off by little kitty paws. Is the base sturdy enough to not tip over when she's balanced on the very top pawing at the water trickles?

    We typically clean this fountain out monthly - but depending on the number of cats that you have, you may need to clean it more or less often. Also, when the fountain gets a little clogged (fur, dust, etc), the water will not come out as powerful and will slow the stream down quite a bit. So, then our cats are not as drawn to it and will not drink as much - which is a flag to tell us that we need to clean it out! We change the filter each time we clean it. =^..^=

    Thanks for answering my questions! :) I also just wondered if you HAVE to run it with the included filter (not the prefilter). I have heard the instructions state that the filter is optional. I can see the prefilter would be useful for hair and dust, but what if one is using distilled water? Is the carbon filter necessary? Have you tried running without the filter? Thanks!

  • @Brandywine6969
    @Brandywine6969 9 років тому +1

    I noticed you had a gallon jug to fill it with water. I wanted to ask, is it better to use distilled water, spring water, or tap water for cats and especially for kittens. I just ordered one of the fountains. Your video helped me to have some idea how to put it all together once it gets here. I'm trying to get my kittens only using stainless steel instead of the plastic stuff that I used in the past. I'm trying my best to get the best I can for them. I keep hearing different opinions on the difference between tap water, spring water, and distilled water.
    Great video, btw. Very easy to understand. Thank you for making it.

    • @puuttypower
      @puuttypower  9 років тому +2

      Brandywine6969 Thank you for the comment! In answer to your question I would either use tap or bottled water for the fountain. I would not recommend distilled since it's still a debatable issue for humans to drink long term - I would think it would be the same for cats and dogs. Plus they may not like the taste of it! As long as your local tap water is good - I think that would be fine. We use bottled water for us and our kitties. I'm glad you liked the video...hopefully the kittens will take to the new stainless steel fountain! =^..^=

  • @puuttypower
    @puuttypower  12 років тому

    @USRefugee: Good question! Actually, feline acne is usually a skin irritation by direct contact with plastic materials. So, even though it has some plastic components, unless kitty is rubbing its chin against the plastic spout on top, it should not be a problem. Since the spout directs water away from the spout, it is less likely that a kitty would be doing that. The bowl edge is most likely the location where cats will rub their skin/fur against and that is the area that is all stainless. :)

  • @puuttypower
    @puuttypower  12 років тому

    @ezscrewing: I agree - the plastic isn't nearly as good as the stainless. Plus, plastic has been known to cause kitty acne...so yet another reason why this version is better. Puutty Power doesn't sell the plastic version and only this one instead. Thanks for your comment! =^_^=

    I have 5 cats and a small dog. Only 2 of the cats will use the fountain. I just changed the spout from 2 to 4. A great video because the spout assembly is not user friendly thus the need for this video. I have had this for over a month. Initially, I removed the water bowls. That did not work. Any ideas? The cats that won't use the fountain are 11, 11, and 2. The dog is 11.

    Something I learned from firefighting; there's a term, offgasing, that can relate to plastics. Basically, if you can smell a plastic smell coming off the item, it's offgasing & that is harmful, with regular use.
    Offgasing plastics are cheaper & are found in a lot of clear plastics, so if your not sure, give it a waft/ gentle sniff.
    I never thought plastic cat water fountains could offgas or give the poor things acne, but it makes sense.

    Hey, nice video... I see it's been up for a couple years, but because of this video, I'm going to buy this fountain for my kitty-cat. Thanks!! She used to drink dripping (leaking) water in the bathtub, but after finally replacing the washers and seats in the faucet, it doesn't leak, so she's not drinking as much! I don't want to find out after the fact that she has an allergy to plastic, so we'll just go straight to stainless now. :-)

    Can you please do a review of the Drinkwell Lotus? I have heard reports of it leaking and of a mysterious plumbing replacement kit that is hard to order to repair it. The pluses are that it is ceramic, looks nice, and is a smaller fountain for those of us looking for a small fountain. It does have some plastic in the center. Thanks!

  • @puuttypower
    @puuttypower  11 років тому

    Nope! The wire is sealed in rubber protective tubing and will not be dangerous as long as it does not rip/tear or otherwise become exposed. This is pretty much the same as all other water fountains as the pump needs to be submerged in water for them to work. It's fairly thick, so it should withstand a good deal of wear & tare. We have had ours for over 3 years and it still works great. The cats don't seem to mess with it. Thanks for your great question! =^..^=

    I wish that the width from fountain "cone" to outer "rim" was wider. :/ I wanted to get this fountain, but I don't think my cute little "smushy-face" Shih Tzu is going to be able to lap up any water without getting herself drenched. She's so picky about the width of her dishes -- they have to be wide, yet shallow. ugh lol
    I believe that they make 2 porcelain fountain models (Pagoda and Avalon) -- I'm hoping those might have wider basins.

    I was wondering if you Noticed the water becomeing warm due to the pump being submerged into it ? Im thinking of getting this for my cat... that makes me run tap water for her to drink -_-" but yeah lol Im wondering about the consistance temprature also you mention Cat acne, are the plastic components approved to conform with this also or is the Plastic parts a pain in the ass? Cleaning , Calcium buildup, are they built to last?

    • @puuttypower
      @puuttypower  8 років тому

      Hello! We have not experienced the water heating up beyond room temperature with our fountain. We have had it for over 8 years and it still works great. Cat acne can arise from kitties rubbing their skin on the plastic - so, as long as they drink from the stream or bowl part - they should be fine. We used to have a plastic cup and one of our kitties would develop acne from drinking from it since she would rub her chin on it while drinking. No problems now that she drinks from the stream with the fountain. I don't experience any calcium build-up, but you do have to wash it since it can get grimey after a while + fur or food pellets getting in there! Not that much of a pain...it can go rather quickly. I think the hardest part is just sitting down to do it...in that way, it's like the gym. You put off going and avoid it, but once you are there you are fine. ;) Thank you for your comment - you can purchase the fountain at www.PuuttyPower.com as well as other retailers...good luck! =^..^=

    One more question: Now that you have had this fountain for awhile with your kitties, how often do you find that you clean the fountain itself, change the filter, change the pre-filter? Yes! Large dogs can use this too - although you may need to fill it up more often. If anything, this is actually better for larger dogs as the stream is a bit too far for the smaller dogs to get to. :)

    The water that I use is already purified , would I still have to use the filter?

    • @betsy1foster
      @betsy1foster 3 роки тому

      The filter cleans the dirt out of the water while it is in use. Many cats like the fresh bowl of water we once used but the minute too many pets start drinking out of it it gets dirty and they do not want it any more. The filter is essential to keeping the water clean.

  • @soleman62
    @soleman62 9 років тому

    These work well but are a pain to keep clean and they catch debris and hair like crazy, especially if you have multiple cats. For no more than the steep price, they should include a stainless steel screen cover for that. My cats never drink from the bowl anyway, only from the spout. I am going to see about making one for mine, maybe out of a splatter screen or the likes.

      @puuttypower  10 років тому +2

      Apologize for the delay in this response! I would say it depends on your cat. If you cat likes drinking from a faucet, then the Platinum maybe better since the stream is similar to a faucet in that regard. As you can tell from this review - the bowl part of the 360 is deeper and your kitty will have to extend their neck further to get to the stream. Hope that helps! Thank you for your comment. =^..^=

      I wish I saw your question earlier than this .... I purchased the Drinkwell Platinum first for making things more helpful for my care attendants to help me with the care of my pets as I'm physically challenged. I decided to purchase the stainless steel Drinkwell 360 and the design is perfect ... with the different fountain tops (they send 5 different fountain tops - I use the single flow) we're able to position the 360 top where the cats can drink comfortably from either the big bowl or the fountain with out any water going on/in their ear(s) unless they themselves want to get wet. The bowl needs to be refilled daily (I do have 5 cats) and is extremely simple, just add cold tap water with a container (up to the maximum line) to the bowl itself, and with less pets refills are less often. It's far easier to clean and maintain hygiene with the stainless steel also, and my cats are more content. I do need to add this final note: no matter which fountain you decide to purchase, please keep in mind my particular circumstances are due to my physical limitation only, the entire Drinkwell Fountain line are each very good products over all. I wish you and your pet(s) much joy and health. I hope this has been of help to you or others who may read this review. GOD bless you. Peace and Agape.

    Y'know... the one I have just doesn't work all that well... or put together so easily. I am thoroughly frustrated with it. Currently it is kind of drooling out one spout and on the other side the water is oozing out of the point where the black plastic meets the stainless steel. It was never "as advertised" from the start and has done nothing but get worse. (And, yes, it is cleaned and the filters changed regularly.)
    This morning I am just this side of taking a sledge hammer to it.

    I want something like this for a dog, but I found it dangerous since you have to plug it to any electricity source, does anyone know a good stainless steel alternative?

    • @puuttypower
      @puuttypower  8 років тому

      Thank you for your comment! It don't believe it to be dangerous - it is low voltage and the wires are covered in plastic which grounds the electrical current. We have had ours for 8 years with no issues. I have not heard of any issues with electrocution with these types of fountains (there are a couple stainless versions) and feel that if there were, a massive recall would have had to be made. I think if you want a circulating water type of fountain, there will be a pump which requires an energy source of some kind to power it. :/ I hope you can find an alternative - and if you do, let us know! =^..^=

    Hello! Looks like we missed this comment - so sorry it took so long to respond! The answer to your question is no, you do not "need" the filter but it is useful in getting some of the extra contaminates out of the water for your pets. We have not tried using it without the filter and we actually use bottled water for this with them...personal choice. It definitely can be run without it so it would be your call if you think you need it or not! =^..^=

    Pump is underpowered for this fountain size and therefore often stalls. It is easy enough to restart the pump with your finger but it requires the hassle of disassembling the fountain. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem as the replacement pumps are completely out of stock everywhere online that I look. I would not buy this product again. I expected some quality for the price.

  • @puuttypower

    @xfxrxexexdxoxmx: We use approximately a half a gallon to fill it up the first time, and then you add water as they drink and it goes down. We clean it out at least once a month to remove fur/food that gets in there. =^_^=

      +Robert Sitter Hello and thank you for your comment! Actually, the cord is plastic coating the electrical wire. If you have a "chewer" this could be a problem so always inspect the wire to see if there are any frayed edges or chewed parts. We have had our fountain for over 5 years and it has never worn out. Our cat Hip-Hop is a chewer but he has never tried the cords for the water fountains (we have two - this one and the Drinkwell Platinum). =^..^=

      think, do you really think they would push out a product that posed such a ridiculously high hazard/risk?
      if theres one thing that kills business its hazards to children, infants & pets.

      I have the plastic one, the upper part is clicked into a system that keeps it in place. I don't like the black plastic clips either. they destroy the Stainless shiny look. Probably you can just use 2, one each opposite side.
