Wow, didn’t realise he talked like this in real life, the guy was a legend and great actor!
You should hear John Savident speaking ( Loudmouth Fred Elliot in Coronation street) in real life .Heck he sounds like he could be The Duke of Downton Abbey in real life! ua-cam.com/video/3FlEpsOowB0/v-deo.html
That's the thing, when someone plays a part so convincingly, part of your brain knows they're acting, but another part thinks they are really like that
He was an actor….playing a character. Most actors are luvvies..👍🏻😅 Sorry to destroy the illusion.
All three of them, Dell, Rodney and Albert all talk like they have a plumb in their mouth in real life.
@@gutz323 Nick doesn't even sound slightly posh
Doesn't sound like a drunk cockney doesn't automatically mean sounds posh, he hardly talks like Prince Charles
Such a down to earth guy, chilling out on a busy beach when everybody in this country would have recognised him.
I had the honour of meeting Buster in Blackpool as a kid with my Gran. A 7 year old me really thought he was Uncle Albert and the entire time I spoke with him he was in character.
He was one of Britain's funniest actors ever, a genuinely nice guy! ❤️
you know that they didn't just happen upon him right..?
For Buster to say those words about David just shows what a really nice and genuine guy David is.
Buster had some of the funniest lines in the show. And as uncle Albert, he was perfect.
There will never be another comedy like OFAH.
“During my time in show-business, many years after the war……..”
It's so weird hearing all the actors normal accents after watching their cockney ones for so long.
This is probably the 1st time i've heard Buster Merryfield's real accent.
@Skipper847 David had a posh accent until he got older.
I remember reading George Cole saying that he had elocution lessons when he was a youngster under the tutelage of Alastair Sim and his wife. I imagine that was fairly standard for actors of a certain generation. Lennard Pearce was well spoken in real life too.
Buster is right, David did fluff his own line on purpose , he says so in his book.
Oh wow David Jason doing that for him. Its really difficult to imagine these types of genuine kind people still exist
I think that demonstrates professionalism that goes above and beyond on David Jason's part
It was in England 🇬🇧
Not America
Looks like it was filmed in Bournemouth or Poole as Buster lived pretty close to both of the town's. He did a great job as Uncle Albert and the funniest one ever was when he went "Uhhh" too early when pretending to be Shocked at Rodney. He never aged in the show either.
Passed him a couple of times in Christchurch on the main road many years ago. What a legend he was.
Not to criticise leonard pearce, i just think actually what buster brought to the show in the end was greater. And also because once an actor is in a role, the writer(s) tend to write for that person playing that role, as the writers of dad's army confirmed, and buster gave john Sullivan more opportunities as a writer
@@josephc6773 Leonard pierce was the better of the two and fit into the role more naturally
It will be Bournemouth, he lived in lievin Avenue for years
Uuuuuurrrrrhhhhh!! A girl!! 😂
Even to this day, in my early forties, that still brings a big smile to my face.
What a great guy. We miss you Buster. 😔
I live in Bournemouth and so did Buster. I can remember as a teenager Buster would often drive around Bournemouth, Pokesdown, Southbourne and Westbourne in his open top red Rolls Royce with a sort of uncle Albert cap/hat on sometimes with family, but only in the summers and on clear blue summer sky days (prob cos of the rolls Royce), I can recall seeing him quite a few times driving about in the summers of 1988 to about 1995/96, most of the areas you would see him were in the seaside parts of the town near the beach so you often saw him in the slow moving beach traffic or at may of the traffic lights, we would always shout 'hey, uncle Albert!' and with no roof on the rolls royce he would always smile, wave and say hello. Sadly missed :(
I didn’t even realise his real speaking voice was so posh sounding, shows how good of an actor he was 👍🏻
Most of the cast on only fools are posh sounding. None of them are cockneys.
@@Anonymous-kq8oh uncle Albert did not sound posh on only fools😂
Posh sounding is like the queen, or his real voice, not the voice he put on for the program
@@jonnygti there real personal, in real life none of them are cockneys mate. If you listen to even Nicolas Lyn, John Challis, Rodger Pack, sue holderness or even Leonard Pearce they sound well spoken. It’s just a show, there in character.
@@jonnygti I’m talking about in real life not on the show.
@@Anonymous-kq8oh I just realised what you meant ha ha! Yes I know what all the other cast members sound like in real life, but Buster was one who I’d never heard until watching this video 👍🏻
I still say "during the war Del" when ever somebody talks about the past , every single person regardless of age remembers it
Man speaks clearer than a newsreader, and you put subtitles.
….which is great for those of us who can’t hear very well. Yes he is articulate, but I am always grateful for subs
Strange seeing him talk like this !! 🐐🐐
I while back i visited his final resting place at Verwoerd Cemetery in Dorset, lovely place, peaceful. When I’m down I put an episode or two on as he always brings me back up again. Nite Unc 😊
He will always be Uncle Albert to me - a TV Legend
Great show, my favorite. Very, very popular here in Croatia.
Love his dedication to method acting by blending in with the deckchair
What a great time to be alive during the Only fools & Horses years !!!
He was such a legend he seems a nice man 😭
I've seen every single episode at least fifty times and I could watch them all fifty times more and still never get sick of them and never fail to laugh.
I even remember being at school and the science teacher showing us a special educational episode of Only Fools, about oil.
Thanks for this video. Buster had such enormous shoes to fill when he replaced Grandad, he pulled it off perfectly. I think it worked because they didn't exactly replace Grandad but filled that gap with a different but equally as great character.
Exactly. I’m the same. Doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen them, you know the gags off by heart but they never fail to make you laugh. There’s not a comedy on the planet that can do that apart from only fools and horses.
@@frandevereaux
Exactly.
I wonder what it is? Apart from the fact that it is so well written and so funny what makes it so uniquely re-watchable?🤔
And I really do mean it when I say unique. There are shows I like even more than Only Fools but I can't even watch those shows the same way I can rewatch Only Fools. I can literally watch an episode and then watch it again that same day and again the next day and laugh as much every time.
Do you think it's a British thing? Because as working class brits (or brits in general) we find it so relatable?🤔
@JJMJohn
Is it? Thank you. I never knew it was on UA-cam.
There was a time (before I looked it up on the internet and confirmed that it exists) that I thought I might've just imagined that entire event and episode 😅
Me too, they'll be laughing in 100 hundreds from now.
Grandad was great, but I always thought uncle Albert was better.
I love this guy , he made only fools and horses go to another level, his character was fantastic and they all complimented each other fabulously 🥰
Wouldn’t go that far, good actor yes. But didn’t take it to the next level. Grandad was far better imo
Dear beloved uncle Albert
@@karlmaddin6554 nah about the same level
what a wonderful gentleman. so missed by us all. R.I.P .
Inspired casting decision. He did a wonderful job.
Pure legend it was hard to fill grandads shoes but he did 😎😎
24 carat legend
Lots of people say that David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst resented Buster Merryfield at first as he thought he was trying to replace Lennard Pearce. Doesn't sound like the case to me as Buster said David eased him in. Buster sounded like a very nice person too and lots of people said he would always talk to people when he was out and about.
Absolutely love Only Fools, this was what I watched from 5 years old. I still love it to this day so thank you to my dad 👍💙
Looks a lot like my uncle, RIP uncle Albert. One of the best characters on British television, irreplaceable.
During the war haha
He looks a lot like my auntie. But that's another story...
Lovely man, would love to see more interviews of him.
What a special human being thankyou for the laughter and the memories god bless you buster merryfield
I peed myself laughing when he fell on his face picking up the award.
ROAR I just wet myself ! Well anyone would , I mean just then 😂
One of most iconic comedy role in British history.
Wow what a lovely man and one of the most iconic characters in British television history! 👍
Absolute legend who took part in some of the best sketches ever in Only Fools.
Wow... his voice is sooo different
Such a charming man
Yeah he's pretending to be posh here
I love Buster, RIP Sir.
What a nice interview! Seems like such a down to earth person!
A great memory shared. Buster made Albert enjoyable to watch just like Leonard did with Grandad. Both equally great in my opinion.
Can't believe how different he sounds in real !
They all are/were quite posh really with the exception of Lennard who ironically had to have training to remove some of his London accent for the roles he took early on in his career
Thanks for posting this. He was so energetic as Uncle Albert!!
wonderful man, wonderful story
I think the fact Buster put on the Cockney accent makes it even funnier now when I hear it 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, I never expected that accent. Same with Sue who plays Marlene.
I knew all of this about Buster being a big Only fools fan. But thank you for bringing this interview. Rest In Peace Buster/uncle
What a true gentlemen god bless his soul ❤
Such an amazing actor and loved him in Only Fools and Horses. It’s such a shame he died the same year I was born. I would have loved to meet him.
Wow. I expected him to sound more like Uncle Albert, I've never heard an interview with him before. It just shows what an exceptional actor he really was. What a fantastic character he was
Yeah and Nic Lyndhurst in real life sounds nothing like Rodney- fantastic actor to be able to put on a working class cockney accent like that
He’s Battersea born & bread in the 20s,the locals talk like that now,not a hundred years ago,or in the70s when I went to school there.
Buster was great as uncle Albert.
I cannot get over his voice!! So posh!
I know. First time I've heard it.
He has such an appropriate name.
Legend thanks for the laughs buster
What a lovely story!
Love this guy but still can’t believe he died 2 months before I was born yet he’s in one of my favourite shows.
Buster was the King of the double take, it still makes me laugh even though I’ve seen all the episodes a hundred times
Absolute gold thanks for this. A legendary show and actor.
I love how posh sounding the ofah actors are in real life. Just shows how amazing they are in their acting on the show
Nah they're just putting on the posh accents for interviews. This guy talks just like uncle Albert in real life and Nic Lyndhurst talks like Rodney
Buster Merryfield Is the man 💯
Beautiful man. 🥰
What a legend 👏
Brilliant Brilliant!
Wow,this is fantastic! Thank you for sharing.
Isn't that lovely! Heard the story before but lovely to hear it from the horses mouth. I read busters book. Really recommend it.
Great interview!
Buster sounds way different in real life, but I still love him of course!! ✌️☺️
Buster Merryfield’s speaking voice sounds like Uncle Albert trying to do a posh accent.
That's how David's sounded too in old Pax interviews while Nicholas' just has a soft posh accent.
What a super piece. Lovely comments from Buster.
Saw Buster in M&S Bournemouth in the 90s, he put his hand in his pocket and gave my new born lad a £1 for his piggy bank. Lovely jubbley .
This is really nice to watch
Sounds like one of my Grandad’s war stories
He was Great!
I remember David once said the BBC had considered getting a woman to replace Grandad but they couldn't because they wouldn't be able to treat her the same way as Grandad. Miss the old days when logic trumped political correctness.
Lovely story, from a lovely Man👍👍.
One thing about Albert.. Never mentioned the war..
He wears that soppy great beard in real life!!!
Buster was a star
I loved how the writers just made grandad grow a beard and turn him into "uncle Albert"
Legend
He's everybody's Uncle Albert!
Although i have never heard him out of character before
He sounds totally different to Uncle Albert.
He was a decent boxer too in his young days too
Mrs H .. My brother married his niece .. It's not true that he died months after he found out he had a brain tumour.. He died 18 months to two years later..And his sister who was 10 yrs younger always said he should of been on the stage/Tv rather than being a bank manager...LEGEND
My man !
Could listen to stories about OFAH behind the scenes all day and night
There’s only one Uncle Albert. A star. 👍👍
Sounds real different very good acting if he can change his voice and that
His voice is so different to Albert's.
Great people, produce great things.....
great
Genuinely amazing actor. Loved his time as Uncle Albert, GrandDad was a brilliant OFAH character, but Uncle Albert outshone him magnificently. Also loved him as Billy Bones in the Treasure Island BBC radio Drama I had when little. God bless Unc.
I saw him as a doctor in Shroud for a Nightingale (Lennard Pearce was in the same ep 😁) and his accent was a lot more posh than here 🤣🤣
Buster is almost camoflauged in that shirt !
He'd make a great grandpa Potts in chitty chitty bang bang
What a fu.king legend
During the war.... ❤️💪
What a legend
Wow, just wow.
What a guy buster was as funny as Leonard in ofah. You could never bring it back without an old git
