Way of the Roses | Coast to Coast by Bike | Day 3: York to Bridlington

  • The final days ride was to be 65 miles from York to the east coast town of Bridlington which we anticipated would be an easier ride with very few hills.
    ...
    The route took us down on to the promenade as our hysteria reached a peak and we stretched our necks like Meer Cats looking for the finish line and my awaiting family. Finally, we saw them and rode right up to the official “Way of the Roses” sign post for a photo opportunity and a chance to congratulate each other. We were duly informed that we stank and would have to ride home in the back of the car.
    We performed the ritualistic dipping of our wheels in the sea just like we had 3 days ago on the other side of the country. Then we headed into town for some well-deserved fish and chips and endless chatter about the adventure before embarking on the long drive home. We had seen every possible type of English countryside, met many friendly people, lost and found a wallet, had a surprise encounter with a friend, drank far too much beer and spent come great quality time together. I learned that it can be enjoyable to chat with complete strangers, that I am capable of long distance cycling 3 days in a row even with a hangover, and that there are surprisingly few cafes in the English countryside.

    What a great adventure. I will be doing this with my tent in April. Your video has inspired me to do it. I shed a little tear when your daughter gave you both the wonderful stones.

    Just finished watching the 3 videos. They look great
    I did the C2C Whitehaven to Sunderland just over a year ago for charity and am planning on this one in March before a charity football match I'll be playing in.
    What kind out hours did each day take? Obviously breaks etc included make it longer
    Day 1 of C2C wasnt bad but day 2 was a shocker

    • @TheGingerCyclist
      @TheGingerCyclist  4 роки тому +1

      Mark Harrison I think each day was about 6 hours riding - which made for a full day with breaks. Hardest day was day 1 and then they get progressively easier with less hills.

    I'll be doing this ride in april, do you think it'll be possible on a road bike as you seemed to go off road quite a bit?

    • @TheGingerCyclist
      @TheGingerCyclist  4 роки тому

      Yes - I am sure you can do it on a road bike (in fact the group from Kent that we bumped into were doing that). We only went off road in a couple of places. The first was due to taking a wrong turn and the second was due to a road closure. Enjoy - it is a great ride!

    Awesome videos man. This really looks like something I should do myself. I dunno if you've done it yet but I recommend the Cinder Track between Scarborough and Whitby. It's a bit undulating but a lot of fun with stunning scenery :)

    • @TheGingerCyclist
      @TheGingerCyclist  6 років тому

      Maximillian Fischer thanks for the feedback. I’ll look into the ride to Whitby. How long is it?

    • @pixelfascination
      @pixelfascination 6 років тому

      It's about 20 miles each way. a 10 mile climb from Scarborough to Ravenscar then some nice DH to get your breath back. Me and 2 friends did it November 2016. The track enters Whitby at the Abbey and cheap beds are available at the YHA at the Abbey, So we did that then drank ALL the beer in Whitby and did the return run the next day. It's very much like our Monsal Trail just more of a climb and with better views.
