    Very good- thank you. I'm just back from the route, camping all the way, finishing it off with a windy night on Flamborough Head. I then returned home, near Preston, via Thirsk, Wensleydale, Ingleton.

    Thanks for sharing Roy nearly caught me on your video as you were descending into Bridlington where the trees were over the road like a tunnel I think I saw you just a bit further down that road we were coming out as a strung out group of five! The Wolds are very familiar cycling terrain for me - our group the York Wednesday wheelers sometimes do a Hockney ride there where we take copies of some of the Hockney‘s work and stop at the points where we think he painted some of the views. Looks like a great trip and one that we may do one day. Russell

      I remember that pretty section well, Russell. The Hockney thing is a great idea. Having a theme for a ride adds another level of interest.

    Hi Roy,just watched your 3 videos,very enjoyable,I’m hoping to do it 2024,thought about using my Brompton but looking at the hills purchasing a gravel bike might be in order,you had a very positive cycling partner which goes a long way to the enjoyment,again great videos & thanks for sharing your adventure,atb Colin P,👍

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  Рік тому

      Thanks, Colin, I’m pleased you enjoyed them. Yes, ride partners can make or break a long ride. Having been outridden by Bromtons on occasions, I am sure you could do it, but a gravel bike is the ideal for some of the slightly rougher sections. I hope you get to do it next year so please let us know how you get on 🙂

    Thanks for sharing your trip, really inspirational, live near Aldwark Bridge and good to see some familiar paths. York to Bridlington is now on my to do list. For information Aldwark Bridge (near Boroughbridge) will be closing for repairs for a couple of months in the near future. There is a footbrige near by but not sure if suitable for cycles, will check out.

    That road thru a forest running parallel to a busy highway was simply amazing. Looked like a great road to cycle on. I'm envious; there is nothing even remotely like that where I ride. You and Wendy seem to be having a great time.

    Well done Roy and Wendy brilliant 3 stage ride, beautiful scenery with a few testing climbs along the way, great ride, I would have thought Halfords would have had a lift as the cycle department is on the first floor.
    Im sure it must as all stores have to comply with access for the disabled.

      Both of my sons live near Fareham so we plan a cycling day trip to the island. I once flew my microlight from Lincolnshire to Sandown so had some great views of the island. It’s such a beautiful place and must be ideal for cycle touring.

    Loved the videos Roy and it looks a great ride .... I've now added it to my rides wish list. In common with my Pennine Cycleway (PCW) trip at the same time, you had some decent weather which is always a bonus. At times, you had some good traffic free riding by the look of it, although in common with the PCW this is ideally suited to a gravel bike and perhaps, as you say, not so well suited to a carbon road bike with expensive wheels.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 роки тому

      Yes, Roger, had the weather been unkind it would have been a completely different experience. During the entire trip we only experienced one instance of dangerous driving. The driver concerned gave us plenty of room but in doing so nearly caused a collision with an oncoming car. I couldn’t show it as the police are using my video evidence to take action. I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to plan a reroute to avoid the rougher parts that wouldn’t suit a road bike, but I guess that would take in more of the busier roads. As you saw, even on the quiet roads the surfaces were superior to some of the main roads elsewhere in the country.

      @@RideWithRoy Hi Roy. It's nearly time! Leaving with daughter, son-in-law and a friend on 2nd June. What sort of average speed did you do over the 3 days and any more tips to help us through.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  4 місяці тому

      We normally average 12 mph to allow time for stopping. If we did it again we would probably take 4 days to allow for more sightseeing. But other than that it's a great route with huge contrasts in scenery. Have a great time and we wish you tailwinds and sunshine. Please let us know how you get on.

      @@RideWithRoy Hi Roy. Completed the ride and had a fabulous time despite a broken chain on day one and horizontal rain on day two. Your "essential items to carry" video was priceless. Was able to repair the chain and carry on. We all found the hardest section was from Appletreewick to Brimham Rocks but still manageable (even for a 75 year old). Thanks for all your videos and safe riding.

    Loved this series Roy, the way of the roses is on our list like so many routes. I had thought we would have managed to fit it in this year as a mini break but as usual circumstances conspired against us, next year maybe. I have to ask how are you recording Wendy and your voice, they sound so clear compared to the usual muffled gopro footage we end up with.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 роки тому

      I’m pleased you noticed the sound, Graham. I invested in radio microphones, so your comment vindicates the purchase. The range is pretty good although some strange cutting out occurred when under tunnels. I do hope you get to make this trip.

    We enjoy all your videos and your 3 Way of the Roses videos have been particularly interesting as we live in Yorkshire and you have been riding very familiar territory. How did you cope with charging your ebike battery en route? We both have similar Fazua drive systems which are really good and when on tour we can take our batteries off the bikes and charge them in hotel bedrooms.

    Sir need suggestion, i cycle 30 miles daily in my MTB (26inch) cycle. Thinking to upgrade so i can achieve 50 miles daily. Confused between hybrid and road bike. Between Kona splice and triban 500 or polygon strattos S2. I stay in village where roads are not good. What do u suggest as i never ride road. Or suggest some other bike budget below 800$. I am from India

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, Rohanl, thanks for your question. I don’t know the models you mention but if you are not riding roads a gravel bike will give you strength and ride comfort as well as lighter weight to help with distance. I would go for minimum 35mm tubeless tyres if you can get them as since using these I have been very impressed. These will help give a more comfortable ride due to the lower tyre pressure you apply. The Triban comes tubeless ready and I believe you can fit up to 38mm tyres. The key elements I would be considering are frame strength and weight. I can vouch for the RC500 on rough surfaces. The roads in India sound as bad as some in the UK 😀
