The US has a history of liberalism that is shockingly rarely taught. In the last 5 years I learned about The Business Plot which involved the world's wealthiest men backing a coup to depose FDR, because they didn't want any social spending during the depression. That's to say nothing about the multi-generational segregationist laws in the US that even Hitler said were an inspiration to him.
It is insane just how easy it is to tip a democracy in another direction. You really don't get that sense without learning about history and understanding that our current trajectory is not some natural inevitability. Democracy is not something we should just take for granted.

It's happening here, now, again. Check out the people that Trump is appointing to office.
The only difference is that now, the business interests ARE the government and there is nothing to stand in their way. Unfortunately, their short-sighted, greedy hoarding will only result in Russia-style oligarchy that goes nowhere.

History, Chun orchestrated the 12 December 1979 military coup, then cemented his military dictatorship in the 17 May 1980 military coup in which he declared martial law and later set up a concentration camp for "purificatory education". He established the Fifth Republic of Korea on 3 March 1981. He governed under a constitution somewhat less authoritarian than Park's Fourth Republic, but still held very broad executive power, and used extreme violence to maintain it.

You would think that every Chinese hates Korea, but you certainly are a credit to the Korean nation because you are so down to earth and reasonable. We must always remember; it's politicians who divide us for their selfish agenda and your observation that not all political parties are the same and some are better than others, meaning we should actively chose the ones that are better to improve our overall well being.

What people have to remember about America is half of this country fought to the death during our civil war from 1861 - 1866 to keep the most horrific form of slavery in all history. That's all you have to know about Americans. There are a lot of very wonderful people here but there are also people who are monsters and it's not a small number.

Main reason was not slavery. It was just side effect of it. Actual reason was confederates vs federates. Basically confederates (people who lost) wanted each of 50 states to be completely independent states. While FEDS wanted entire federal control and they suceeded in doing it.

Labeling the people calling out your beatings, and worrying they might turn into murder, murderers, is losing the plot. You can still be a bad person when opposing greater evils. It takes a lot more to flip over the line to good than people are lead to believe.
