Being a woman from Appalachian America, I appreciate your world view and international outlook. I can't find a lot of good information sources around here.
Wow, I watch international news all the time. And I still did not realize that Korea was having such a hard time with its president. I can sympathize because we have to deal with the orange guy over here 🥹
Well in 2018 they sentence the first female president to 25 years in prison for corruption. At least they had the balls to do it unlike the United States who should have convicted and sent Trump to prison for January 6th and other offenses.
In the middle of reading the book Corporation by Joel Bakan. It’s about how companies came into power and became the oligarchs of democracy. It’s fascinating!
Thx for the vids. Greetings from Argentina, half a world apart and i try not to miss a single of your vids, context makes the difference. Congrats in the victory of the people and democracy against the failed coup.
Thank you for the updates! 🇺🇸 Eventually, the USA will be in the news for a president declaring martial law. I truly believe it's just a matter of time before trump does it... and does it under the wrong circumstances.
Meh, SK has a history of the most corrupt crooks ruling them, literally every president is either assassinated or in jail, dont compare this weird country with ours.
i also think the older generation ij their 50s and early 60s are very different than the later 60s and 70s in korea because a large chunk of that generation were the drivers behind the collapse of the dictatorship in the 1980s whereas people in their 70s were around during the whole park chun he era and tended to be more indoctrinated in the whole cold warrior mindset 1970s dictatorship.
if their system is like our then it doesn't matter what he did or what the evidence is, all he needs if roughly half the voting body to be his party AND all of them to be party over country mentality. then anything goes! 😕
Old people usually vote for the right, and those who promise them to sacrifice the young... In SKorea, the age pyramid is skewed towards older people...
also it is complex because the opposition may not actually be able to run if the court upholds his conviction. so if they have a new election who knows who will even be running for president.
What was your read on President Yoon as a person before this coup? I think it's worth considering that normally, such attempts aren't made into the blind. He must have reasonable expectation to disrupt the impeachment process somehow.
@realchris Which is appreciated, though I expected a bit more to understand his background and motivations. Like if you asked me about Trump or Scholz (I'm German), I would have a long story to tell.
I don't think Korea's method of campaigning would work since we can fit the entire state of California in South Korea. A politician's message probably wouldn't reach the rest of the country.
Chris, you almost triggerred me! You painted a very vivid picture of pitchforks and rushing the Capitol. Not so much "olden days". Humanity can be quite frightening. SK sounds so much like USA in so many ways. I wish our election process was different! It truly needs an overhaul! I felt your pain last night & I still do. Wish8ng our ally the very best! I hope things settle down for SK. I have always been country over party 💙
I don't particular like dictators but I think Yoon is less corrupted and have more self-respect and integrity than the King and many MAGA congress workers here. I don't think SK has gun violence and extremism like the USA.
When did Biden order martial law? The last time a US president declared martial law was following the Pearl Harbor attack, but that was limited to Hawaii only.

If you don’t impeach him, he’ll come back.
Trump been impeached twice and somehow got elected again. Stranger things have happened.

You'll like my book too www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFHFJP25 :) But yes these days the oligarchs are a big part of our lives.

Chris, I am glad you are OK.
Thank you for explaining how the legal and political process looks like in South Korea regarding to the presidents chocking decision of martial law
that was quick, good. I hope you can get back to the real issues regarding Koreas disparity happening at the moment.
Treachery.
Brave Vietnamese, I commend you for letting the world know what happened.

I truly believe it's just a matter of time before trump does it... and does it under the wrong circumstances.
with his party being famous for party loyalty (if not personality cult...) impeachment will be impossible.
Meh, SK has a history of the most corrupt crooks ruling them, literally every president is either assassinated or in jail, dont compare this weird country with ours.
Yes, I’ve being saying the same thing - only a matter of time.

Kim Jong Yoon 😂
I hope he's impeached, that shit is no joke.
Yep he needs to go!
if their system is like our then it doesn't matter what he did or what the evidence is, all he needs if roughly half the voting body to be his party AND all of them to be party over country mentality. then anything goes! 😕
Props to the South Korean people who were able to shut down the authoritarian crackdown in less than 24 hours.

Declaring martial law because you didn’t get your way seems like a violation of the constitution.
I wouldn't doubt tRump pull this same 💩!
KORU up over $1 since Market down turn! Missed opportunity!! 😖😖😖
Right when market freaks out on this stuff but it's short term there is opportunity.

I share my thoughts in the video :)

Whats your opinion on the democracy in sk, do you think it it's more democratic than the US?
George Washington said voting for party over the good of the country wouldl be the end of the republic.
but it does make for a strong party...especially when the other party is split by each person trying to "do what's right" 😕
I don't think Korea's method of campaigning would work since we can fit the entire state of California in South Korea. A politician's message probably wouldn't reach the rest of the country.
Australia is similar though. The actual campaigning period is short. It can present some challenges, but geographic size doesn't really matter.
Why was martial law declared?
Hi Chris, no big deal but just lettin you know impeachment was mispelled in your Thumbnail for this video, the thumbnail image says "Impeacement"
How are you able to speak your opinion on this format?
I'm moving to Korea, f$ck it

President Yoon sounds like the evil assemblymen from Again My Life

Oh Chris, you're so dumb. Murican teevee says it's impossible to run a campaign in a what was over 100 days.
Joe Biden ordered marshal Law 😅😅😅😅😅
You sound stupid
🤡
