Do It Yourself Dryer Vent Cleaning, Just DON'T !

- So many people think they are going to save money by cleaning the dryer vent themselves. Usually their cheap tool from the hardware store breaks in the vent and we end up cleaning it anyway. Plus we have to retrieve the broken tool.
For any homeowner that possesses a healthy amount of common sense, this can be done with an Amazon/Home Depot kit just fine! Just did mine 😄 BUT, to the poster's point, you must ALWAYS go clockwise--and if something seems off, or isn't as smooth as it seems it should be, just pause, and make sure nothing is out of whack. Take your time, and don't rush! I feel like that's where a break or snap would happen. Also, make sure you have some aluminum tape just in case; plus it's a good supply to have in the DIY toolbox all-around. Stay safe!
The reason the rod breaks in the duct is that many people do not set the clutch on the drill to the lowest setting and force the brush through. Also, the drill must be used on the low speed setting.
😔 I used a one of those brushes a year ago and didn't have a problem. However this year it's currently stuck in the vent 😰
So what tools do you use to clean dryer vents? Thanks
I learned the hard way today. The brush came off in the duct.🤦🏼♂️
It helps to duct tape the rods together.
Cmon man! How come that one didn’t break when you bent it all the way back??
And take money outta your pocket as well ? 😂😂
i find it crazy that it seems like people in my area charge 500$ to clean dryer vent, I have maybe 20 foot straight run out to the side of my townhome. can I simply rent a high power blower or vacum?
That is pretty high. We are between $149-$199

Where can I purchase that piece of garbage?
It would really help to show what the proper tools look like instead. Pneumatic power, but what are they? How are they superior at getting around bends? It's hard to compare methods when I don't know what I'm missing.
Most professional dryer vent rods and brushes look exactly like what he is holding, but they are much more durable and cost a lot more.
I still say it’s better to hire a professional that has done it thousands of times and knows what to look for.
Professionals will also inspect the whole run with a video scan inside the vent from beginning to the end of the vent.

Question: so if you’re a tenant in a house with this idiotic roof vent who is responsible to pay for the cleaning? The landlord or tenant?
That depends on your lease agreement.
Pretty sure my vent is straight vertical to the roof. I'm unsure regarding the screen. House is 3 years old.
Gotta love the amateur garbage 😊
Where do you go for proper training?
