    Water byelaws require a sleeve to be fitted over the pipe and through the wall cavity. I use plastic overflow pipe for this and the drill diameter is 22mm. It's also easier to fit the tap first to the wall plate and then fit it to the wall before screwing it. That way it's guaranteed to be straight.

    So its important to always bang your head on the sink both entering and leaving, and set your hair on fire as you work under the sink, and leave one joint half-soldered because your phone rings half way through. Turning off the mains water first can help if you remember... and though the cables usually go downwards that electric socket will be the exception and you will go through the cables sure as butter. Oh and by the way drilling those pilot holes for the tap base will surely snap a bit off the brick and you'll get no plug in there..or the second of three either so its a risky single-screw by the look of it. Then her husband will come down ..working from home he is two days a week ( in building control) and suggests you're taking a long time for a simple tap, haha ha.

    You are supposed to sleeve the pipe through the cavity in case it gets damaged via frost or debris falling down the cavity causing a leak in the cavity which can cause a lot of damage if you have insulation in there and you won’t know until it’s to late

The all in one kit that DIY retailers sell aren't too bad but I agree, you can't beat hard pipe because hoses naturally degrade over time. Doing what I do at B&Q I know what the most common advice DIYers are looking for, would love to have a chat to help you reach a wider audience. I wish I watched this a week ago, I just fitted a a tap just like this, I put the tap into the wall mount and did it up tight, then pushed it through the wall and marked the holes so the tap was straight, the holes didn't end up lining up and my tap is now slightly off straight. Maybe I'll remove the tap use lock tight thread and refit

    Hi I have a question, Our townhouse complex of 50 units did this.. Water Meters had to be removed to protect the geysers.
    The existing installation has one pressure Reducing Valve per two residential units.
    This has to be changed to place a Pressure Reducing Valve in every individual feed to each unit, then place the Water Meters upstream of each Pressure Reducing Valve. Do we need to add the additional Pressure reducing Valves?

    Might sound like a stupid question but whenever I fit these I can never get the tap straight so end up faffing around putting more and more PTFE on to get it tight enough. Does the loctite you used stop this happening?

    • @Anakinuk007
      @Anakinuk007 5 років тому

      Rian Murray - its a bit hit and miss. I literally fitted x6 of them today for a building site. 2 were perfect, finished straight and tight as possible. The other four, identical, did not make that extra 1/2 or 1/4 turn. So had to remove, reapply tape then remember to not go that extra turn at the end. IMO they arent made right, you’d think they would be designed so that the thread is consistent and when fully tightened end up straight! If your really keen, there is a fibre washer that can make up the difference.
      I should prob try loctite more often lol - I broke the metal catch bit on my first ever new roll before I’d even used it! Dropped on the floor and it broke. So ever since I’ve just stuck to ptfe.
      Note - these particular fittings you can fit these tight and straight, then mark the holes so no issue. Normally they are fitted into a standard backplate.

    • @globalste
      @globalste 5 років тому

      The Captain why don’t you tighten the tap and then screw it to the wall after?

    • @Anakinuk007
      @Anakinuk007 5 років тому

      globalste - as noted, yes your right. If using the same backplate kit as shown in video. Otherwise a standard backplate you cant pre tighten it. You could in theory screw the plate on wonky but would look ridiculous.

As of the new tap I don't want to ruin it by constantly fitting and removing another tap adaptor (it's what buggered up the previous tap). • @johno-gb7ci
      @johno-gb7ci 4 роки тому +2

      You'd have to drill a 24mm hole. that hole would almost hit the holes for the plugs. Possibly crack brick then not get good fixing. It doesn't need a sleeve. It Would be good practice to wrap with duct tape before fitting. stops the concrete or brick coroding copper.

    Anyway, I wonder if you can advice me? I am connecting a hose to my Mothers garden tap & to a length of uPVC pipe that I will be drilling holes in then running it along the fence in the garden so all she need to do is turn the tap on to water her plants but I'm not convinced the water pressure is powerful enough to exit all the holes in the 26ft uPVC pipe , is there anything I can do? It's better to drill from the outside because when the drill comes out the other side of the wall, it tends to crack the surrounding surface. It's easier to cover up inside with some filler because it's behind a washer anyway.

    • @bethgmc

      Lar Ko he would have measured it against a base point - maybe either the underside of the window, or from the back door.
      Cross checking where the tap would pop out internally.

    • @peterevans8194
      @peterevans8194 3 роки тому

      Or maybe it was sheer luck he missed the electrics! 😀😀😀 Joking apart, I prefer to drill a narrow pilot hole from inside out, but you do have to be careful not to "burst" the exterior surface of the wall as the drill bit exits...

    Do you think a sleeve is required for the copper pipe entering the wall? Only thing would be you'd need to drill a 22mm hole for the sleeve and then the holes on the plate wouldn't work. Any thoughts?

    How do you know that the tap wont end up being upside down when you screew it into the wall plate? Is there some way of knowing or markings on the plate top and bottom? And do you prefer am internal check valve over the ones built into tap? (would you still put in an internal check valve if using check valve in tap housing)

      That’s locktite stuff he used will allow you to turn the tap tight and still have it the right way up. If the tap has got a check valve you won’t need another one.

    I am looking to install an outside tap but the pipe work runs just below the worktop surface next to the sink cabinet and behind the washer, instead of low down like in your video. Then the hot and cold for the washer T's off vertically downwards each of these horizontal pipes. Would it be possible to swap out the standard washing machine valve and replace it with a brass appliance tee, using the spare connection for the tap instead of say a dishwasher??

    I bought one of those through wall mounting plates, with pipe attached. Before I fitted it, I discovered that the council was sponsoring external insulation, with a huge grant from the government. It cost me very little to have it installed. Now the pipe is too short to go through the wall. Is it possible to get this type of mounting with a longer length of pipe; I need about 450mm? I'd rather not extend the pipe, and have a potential point of weakness out of sight inside the 22mm sleeve. Alternatively, how easy would it be to desolder the existing length of pipe, and replace it with a longer length? Or can the outside mounting plate be bought without the pipe, so I can use my own length of pipe?

    I need to know what part to buy in order to connect a water hose to a tap like you installed. Any vids on that?

    • @nobodydoesithalfasgoodasyou

      I imagine you've sorted this out now but in any case, the most conventional options are either to ram the hose onto a hose tail as shown in the video and secure with a jubilee clip or to use a ¾in BSP to ½in quick connector, along with the mating part that screws onto the hose itself. E.g. Toolstation part no. 42950 has everything you should need but I believe you can buy basically the same thing from Poundland. Beware one of the hose end fittings may have an automatic shutoff valve which could cause confusion.
      In truth there's basically a limitless number of ways you could connect a hose to that tap if you don't care what it looks like 😈

    hi i have a somewhat related question, i seem to have a tap in my bathroom (to connect my washing machine) but for some reason the guys from the washing machine shop told me its missing a tap? as in i just have to add the tap part or i have to make a whole new installation of a tap like you did in your video?

    • @bm6159

      +b m i dont know how to attach a photo, but it looks like 2 pieces of thin silvery colored pipes that finish off with a cap, separated by about 20cm and coming out of my bathroom wall...

    I read quite a few places to put the copper pipe inside a plastic pipe (slightly larger) as brick can corrode copper if left bare? Is that true or abit OTT

    Hiya James
    How about a video on how to go about installing not just a cold but a hot tap as well. Apparently loads of people are now doing this. Some people use this method so that they can wash the dogs or car. Just a thought.

    How about drilling from inside under the sink to outside with thin long pilot drill?

    • @ArkadyVasiliev
      @ArkadyVasiliev 3 роки тому

      You risk blowing out the brick on the other side. Even a small 5.5 or 6mm will potentially blow out a large amount of brick. Always, always outside in
