I love your page ❤ I also live in a townhouse and while I do have my own front and back door entrances, I don't have a deck, or porch and NO backyard...So, I've started planting seeds and sitting them in my windows. They are doing good so far. It's just my son and I, he is 6. We are starting out farming/homesteading journey as well. In a couple years, We'll be buying animals on our farm ❤

And, I'm so encouraged that you are starting and using what you can. Growing what you can is still so valuable and is just a joy, right? Have you considered indoor planters like the aerogardens? I'm strongly considering them so that I can keep tender herbs like basil, parsley and cilantro growing into the winter. Def keep in touch!!!
Every time we go into a thrift or antique store, I go through the books. There's always lost gems in there. 💖 Also, I grew up where the electricity went out a lot and oil lamps were so helpful. I still love having them on hand just in case.
I purchased heating pad (new in box), vaporizers also new, walker, solid cane, adult port a pot chair, crutches, wheelchair, hosp bed and Depends for women and men in original pkgs. at Goodwill. And of course, excellent medical books. For ex: When there is No Doctor. I am getting older and family has several medical issues. Insurances don't always pay for items such as these. Deductibles may be high. So thrift prices may prove to be best prices!
Hi Brooke! I couldn't agree more. New does not mean better. I am always recommending physical books because what happens when you need to reference something and the internet is down or power is out? Plus, its just quicker to crack open a book sometimes. Amen to all you said!

I loooove thrifting. Aside from 2 pieces of furniture (our bed and a tv stand) all of our household furniture is thrifted. Now, I’m no interior designer and I love a cozy look and feel but I don’t think you can tell. It’s allowed us to use the money we work for on other things and is such a blessing. I’ll always be a thrifter! Glad to hear you’re the same!

I just found a local thrift store that has a nice selection of working oil lamps...so getting one soon!
Oh I love second hand stores lol. If I can’t find stuff there, the dollar store or marketplace I must not need it. Another thing I would look for are non electric appliances. Hand mixers, grinders, butter churner, steam stovetop juicer, non electric meat slicers, etc. They usually go cheap since most people want the fancy electric gadgets. I could get way to deep on this subject lol. I have a perfection stove as well and from Marketplace! Just keep going, your in the right direction!
Sharen! You KNOW about perfection heaters???? (on second thought, of course you do!) Yes, I have three of them. 1 was beautifully restore and the other two I may repaint this summer with my dad's help, but they've worked just fine the past few years we've used them. They are stunning, simple, and practical. Better yet, I know that if the power goes out during the winter, we'll be fine with heat (along side the other preps I have). I enjoyed using them all winter long and will miss using them now that the season is changing. I agree with you about non electric appliances, which is why I built my kitchen with those first and only have a few electric items. I don't have a kitchen aid mixer because I can cook just fine without it (of course, if I find at at an excellent USED price, I may purchase).

Just got a wool mattress topper (I use it as a mattress, because I sleep on the floor! Floor sleeping is a thing!) It's wonderfully temperature-moderating. Usually I run hot at night, the idea of a wool blanket sends me running, but this mattress is fantastic. I'm the kind of gal who sleeps with the window open in the dead of winter, but this is perfect. Yes on the cast iron! Will investigate the other items...
Love love love this! I buy almost everything secondhand and have had some great secondhand preparedness finds... tons of candles (scented and also safety/emergency type), books with all sorts of great information, jars... my water bath canner is thrifted as are all of my canning tools (tongs, canning funnels, etc), and my dehydrator too!
Outdoor solar lights are so clever. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for some!
Solar lites are SO cheap to buy new. Walmart or Dollar Tree. I wouldn't bother with used ones.

❤️FYI -YOU CAN MAKE A VACUUM SEALER USING PVC PIPE AND YOUR BRAKE BLEEDER. IT WILL SEAL ANY SIZE JAR THAT WILL FIT INTO YOUR PVC PIPE. GREAT FOR ANY SIZE JAR THAT HAS THE RUBBERY GASKET TOP SUCH AS SPAGHETTI JARS AND PICKLE JARS.
I live at my thrift stores. Always my first place to look for particular items.

I think the only item I might find at the local thrift stores would be clothing/fabric. 😆 Maybe a few tools...and some books...A cast iron skillet if I'm lucky lol

8:05 Cast Iron. Look for older pieces. In the 70s OSHA ruled that fine particle sand was a risk to lung health. Older pans have a smoother surface because they were cast in smaller sand particles.
FYI if games are missing pieces a lot of time if you contact manufacturers for a few dollars or free you can get replacements
When buying used or old things, check to see if they have been recalled due to safety issues.
Years ago I found a sewing machine in the fold out table so half price, so I paid $5 for it! I am still using it although I did buy a new sewing machine for quilting only. I am always looking for all the things you said, although I haven't found any kerosene heaters, and I love them! Probably not with my idiot cats I have now, but I still love them and am hopping to find one one of these days.
I have been able to find a lot of canning jars (even some of the old blue ones with zinc lids & glass lids) at auctions. Check out HiBid auctions in your area to see if you can find some canning supplies. I have also won a pressure canner at the auction & it was less than $20 & spent a little to get new seals, gauge, etc to make sure it's safe to use.
Hi Rhonda! A pressure cooker for 20.00? That's amazing (and the #1 reason why I love thrifting). I'm limited to weekend auctions due to my work schedule, but you have given me an idea to look there too. About 1/2 of my canning inventory has been thrifted, praise the Lord. It sounds like you have an impressive jar collection. I love looking at how the designs have changed over the years. I have some jars that are nearly 40 years old!
I am also on my way to farm living. It's always been a dream of mine. I built and lived in my tiny house on wheels. It is 100% off grid. However, being much older now and married, my husband doesn't share my enthusiasm. So, we are on the search for a small rural home with lots of land. Presently, we are renting a 600 sq ft apt and have 4 raised beds, greenhouse, and chickens.
BTW: Do you have any greenhouse experience? We are in New England, and the winters can be brutal.

Hi Angela! That’s exactly what happened to me. I now have 3 (one for each level of our home). I love them and wouldn’t be without them. Easy to maintain, excellent heat production, gorgeous to look at and keep out all year. Keep an eye out for them on Facebook marketplace or antique sales. You may need to repaint them (for looks) but I have two that show there wear and actually prefer that look. Thanks for watching and saying hello!
