  • Engine finally replaced by dealer in my Chevrolet Silverado Z71 LT 4wd. Definitely not adding extended warranty after power train warranty ends in November because this truck will have to get the good ole Texas speed cam and aftermarket NON DOD lifters. Chevy was slacking before Covid and even more afterwards especially quality of the lifters and lack of effective heat treatment of certain parts. Chevy has had lifter issues since 2007 but once they started ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT (AFM), things got even worse because that technology would shut off hakf of the engine (4 cylinders) randomly. Then they started DYNAMIC FUEL MANAGEMENT (DFM) in 2019 and things went fully ballistic because this technology has the ability to shut off any random cylinders up to 7 at a time which leaves a guaranteed chance lifters that were already bad will fail.

    BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS COMING ON MY OTHER VEHICLES: 😡😡😡Just got an update. New additional lifter failure and cam completely wiped out now. Still renting a car for $500 a week. Now they decided they will do a new engine replacement which was the same position I was in just a week ago and they chose to just fix few lifters but now they see what cutting corners does. Engine on backorder since early April. Big inconvenience for me and big price for them. It sucks man I probably will sell once it's done cause even a brand new engine the lifters go bad even when you use the plug in thing to keep the lifters from deactivating, I heard they still will go out. Ridiculous. UPDATE: As of late June, truck is back in shop once again for the third time due to bad idle and bad lifter rattle in the new replaced engine. Every time I get the truck back within two days it has to go back which is usually a Friday I get it and following Monday back I'm the shop every single time.

    • @Everythingwheels12
      @Everythingwheels12  22 дні тому +3

      @@allcore5172 unfortunately that still won't stop this from happening and many people don't know that. The lifters themselves are bad designs. It still doesn't change the fact the lifters are actually defective. The only true solution is aftermarket cam and aftermarket non DOD lifters and lifter trays. People have put the disabled tunes or the plug ins on the obd and stay in full V8 mode and it still didn't help. I drive mine in L7 to stay in 8 cylinder mode and this still happened. Even the dealership realize the only solution is to go aftermarket. Once my warranty ends and if it happens again after that, I will go aftermarket if I haven't sold it prior to then.

      @@allcore5172 also starting in year 2019 they no longer use AFM, they us DFM which is dynamic fuel management and that is even worse because afm only shuts off four of the cylinders but dynamic fuel management can shut off any random cylinders up to 7 at a time.

    Back in 2015 I was shopping around for a new truck. I had my heart set on a brand new Silverado.....however there was a Ford dealership right across the street and I decided to see what they have to offer.....I was never a Ford guy.....I ended up buying an XL F150 with a Sport package and basic 3.5 non ecoboost V6....for $25K...they gave me every single discount they could.....fast forward to 2024 and that F150 now has over 200K miles.....I never had any issues with it....not a one single check engine light...Everything on this truck works as it should. Interior is still holding up, no weird rattles and shakes......So glad I decided to give Ford a chance....about to get me a new F150 and pass old one to my 15 year old....

      Very nice. Be careful the newer stuff during and after covid are very different. Ford has tons of issues with new trucks just like Chevy despite good maintenance the quality and craftsmanship is not there anymore with any of these brands. A person just has to pick the issue they are willing to deal with. Also Ford just recalled over half a million trucks due to major issues of them randomly shifting back to first gear on their own while driving. I'm glad you had that much good out if that 2015

      5k max and if you live in cold weather or drive a lot of short trips, I would change it sooner than that. Direct injection is a big part of the problem these days. DI gas engines make soot that's more like diesel soot than the soot from an old gas engine. It sticks to parts inside the engine and the oil has a harder time preventing soot formations. Synthetic oils have the downside of forming deposits if the engine gets driven in cold weather for short distances where the engine doesn't get hot. Those deposits can build up and restrict oil flow as well. Despite all that, I know guys with over 200k miles that never had a lifter problem. They are the kind of guys that never bought into the idea that because you use full synthetic you're good for 7500 miles or even 5000 miles. They still change their oil like old timers every 2500 or 3000 miles. Gotta keep the oil clean.

Chevy's had issues with this for years but I know folks that's never had an issue with lots of miles. It's crazy, stupid, and intermittent. I personally think it's a supplier issue with the lifters but who knows? I've got a feeling they have changed suppliers over the years to save money and this is what you get. GM can't get rid of AFM and DFM. They would literally have to stop making V8 engines if they stopped using it. Do you think GM puts that stuff in the engines for fun? It's literally there only because of federal emissions regulations. It's why the Hemi is now gone and why the 5.0 Coyote now has cylinder deactivation. If it wasn't for EPA regulating emissions, AFM and DFM would not exist because no company would waste all that money on the system when they could just use regular lifters.

      Lol I don't tow anything over couple thousand pounds. Duramax I was going to get but I only got this one because it came from an older guy. I had a older tundra that I only sold for home purchase but this Chevy now has a new engine and when it goes out I will get it replaced again and after warranty I will put a cam in it and none DOD lifters. No lesson learned I'm a mechanic and was well aware of these issues. Not my first rodeo

    I absolutely hated Chevy vehicles in the military. The interiors fell apart. The doors were easily sprung by a light breeze. And we constantly had engine & transmission issues.
    We got one back from the dealer after replacing the transmission, and the entire exhaust fell off while I was driving down the flight line.

    The engine is one issue, but the service ESC and brakes light, there's a large braided ground strap below the engine on the passenger side that gets rusted, especially where they salt the roads in the winter, i believe it goes from the frame to the engine or body, $20 fix from the auto parts store. The engine, is it a 5.3 or 6.2 and what year?, usually the 5.3 can go 200 to 300K without issue. If a 2021 during the supply chain issues GM had to use a different vendor for 2 or 3 moths in 2021 where the valve springs can break on that run of truck production, there's a TSB on it and that sounds almost like it, luckily I purchased a 2021 Silverado Trail Boss LT with a production date a few weeks before they started using those different springs, 3 years in with no dealer visits other than oil changes and tire rotations. Hope this info helps, good luck, BTW the powertrain warranty is 5 year 60K miles isn't it?

    • @Everythingwheels12
      @Everythingwheels12  18 днів тому +2

      Yes I'm still under warranty until November 10th. I have a 2019 Silverado lt Z71 4 wheel drive with the 5.3 liter. So many have this issues. The lifters are bad. Only true solution is to get aftermarket cam and non DOD lifters and aftermarket lifters trays. Finally got it back today with remanufactured engine. I'm going to see how it goes this time and if it goes out again soon, I will be pursuing action against Chevy about it thru lemon law
