I agree on Jane Austen January! I feel more in the mood to read classics in the winter than in the summer.
I’m the same way. I’m definitely a mood reader.
I agree too! January feels like the right time, rather than July. Let's do it! lol
Sounds like there is lots of interest in "Jane-uary" so I'm going to work on it! Stay tuned!
@@jensreadinglife fantastic
Congratulations! I have two questions. First, can we get a sweeping view of the other bookcases in your house? Second, have you considered doing a video with your mom? I enjoy watching Miranda Mills and her mother when they do videos together.
Thank you! And thanks for your questions! I have mentioned the idea to my mom and am trying to convince her! Stay tuned...☺
Mood reading is so much more enjoyable than a required syllabus ! Congratulations on your success and have fun with the books you choose for July. BTW, thanks again for tagging me to do the April Showers Tag! I actually planned out all of my answers but got busy and by the time I was able to film it, it was already the end of May. But I am hanging on to my notes and will definitely do it at some point. It’s a fun tag! Have a great weekend! 😊
It will be fun to see your answers to the tag whenever you get to it! 😉
Hi Jen congrats on 2K.🎉 My question is do you keep a book journal? If so would you be willing to share how it’s set up? Thanks 💕📚
Thank you! And that's a wonderful question. Might need it's own video!!! 😉
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is going to be a tough one to answer!!! ☺
Librarian Nancy Pearl has a theory she calls the Four Doorways, which states that, for readers, there are 4 main doorways into fiction. These doorways are STORY, CHARACTER, SETTING, and LANGUAGE, and which one you enjoy the most often determines the type of books you’ll love to read.
A book with STORY as its biggest doorway is one that readers describe as a page-turner, a book they can’t put down because they desperately want to discover what happens next.
A book with CHARACTER as its biggest doorway is a book in which readers feel so connected with the characters that when the book is over, they feel they’ve lost someone dear to them.
Readers of novels in which SETTING is most prominent say things like “I felt like I was there,” or, “When I finished Willa Cather’s Death Comes for the Archbishop, I immediately made plans to go to New Mexico-I had to see for myself where it took place.”
A book in which LANGUAGE is the major doorway leads readers to utter sentences like “I read more slowly because I wanted to savor the language” or “I’m not even sure what the book is about, but I loved the way the author wrote.”
Jen, which of those four doorways is most appealing to you? Which doorway do you enjoy the most?
I LOVE this question so much! I’ve been thinking about my answer since you posted it…😁
@@jensreadinglife 😁
Congratulations on 2000 subscribers. Which of your favourite characters would you like to hang out with if that were possible?
Thank you. And hmmmm....I will have to think about that one!🤔
Love the idea of Jane Austen January! I agree, I dont always feel like a classic in July which is why I usually dont participate.
It looks like there's lots of interest so I'm going to work on putting it together! Stay tuned!
Jen, I love your videos! My question is what do you do to get out of a reading slump?
Thank you! And that's a question I definitely need to answer!!!
Summer is the perfect time for mood reading! I hope you avoid your usual July slump this year. I am hoping to immerse myself in Jane Austen July, although already a couple of books have come out that I want to read also. So my question is this: What is your favorite book of all time? And congratulations on reaching 2000!
Thank you so much! And thank you for your question, I'll be answering it in my Q&A video!
Yes let's do Jane Austen January!! I'll join you if you do. I much prefer reading them during the cozy winter months. :D Emma is my favorite of her novels. Hopefully you like it. My question is what was the book that got you into reading?
It sounds like there’s quite a bit of interest in Jane Austen January (Jane-uary 🧐) so I think I will have to make that happen! And thanks for your question! 😊
Hi Jen…I really enjoy your videos and my burning questions are…..how in the world do you read so many books? Are you a fast reader? Do you have a set time every day to read? I am always amazed by the amount of reading you accomplish.🌸👏🏻
Thank you! And those are great questions...stay tuned for my answers!
Congrats on 2k! What was your favorite middle grade book as a child, and what is your favorite middle grade book as an adult?
Thank you! This is going to be a hard question to narrow down my answers!!!
Hi Jen, my question is… Do you come from a family of readers? Thank you for a great channel ❤
Thank you so much! And thank you for your question - that's a fun one!
Another question(s) for you, Jen. How do you mark your page when reading physical books? Do you use formal bookmarks or something else? Do you have a favorite bookmark?
Oh, fun questions!!!
I’m a new subscriber and I love your book selections. Yours is such a peaceful and cozy channel 😊. I would love to hear what books and authors you remember loving as a young new reader.
Thank you for your sweet words! And for your question!
Would you ever consider writing a novel? If so, what genre would it be?
Fun questions!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Here’s hoping your more relaxed TBR wards off any potential reading slump.
Question: How has your reading life changed since the start of your channel?
Thank you Michael! And that is a fantastic question!!! Stay tuned! ☺
Congratulations on 2K!! I wait impatiently for your videos each week and enjoy seeing your reading life. My question: Has there been a book you did not initially like that you reread later in life and really enjoyed?
Thank you so much for your kind words! And thank you for the question…I’m going to have to think about that one!
CONGRATS on 2000 sudscribers!! 😃😄😅😆😁 Doesn't surprise me. QUESTION: how many books do you own (in your entire house plus any you have lent out)?
Thanks Eileen! OH....that is a very good question! I better get counting!!! 🤣
Hi Jen, and congratulations on your 2k. What's your most valuable book on your nightstand or book that brings you joy?
Ooohhh...interesting question! I'll have to think about that.
I have started the Emma M. Lion series because of your recommendation and I love her so much! Thank you.
You are welcome! I'm so glad you love her too!🥰
Hi Jen, I love your channel and your bright and cheery personality as well as your love of books. My question is: Do you have a favorite childhood book? 📚
Thank you for your kind words and your question. Answer coming soon!
Who do you attribute your love for reading the book genres that you currently read today? For me, it was my sixth grade teacher who was frustrated that my only interests was reading about dinosaurs. She tried to get me to like Miss Read, which was okay, but then I drifted to mysteries and have not stopped loving them to this day. I would prefer that they were just mysteries and did not involve murder but they are what they are today. I don't remember which ones I ended up drifting to in sixth grade except for Nancy Drew. But there were others. I was really in a rut as a young reader.
Oh, this is such an interesting question!
I’m not surprised that you have a growing following. Excellent content. One of my questions would be…. Were you or are you a teacher?
Thank you so much! And thanks for the question...answer coming soon! 😀
What is your job ? Did you study at all? What favourite book of all time ?
Great questions!
If you were stranded on a desert island what three books would you wish you had with you?
Oooohhhh...this will require some thought!
Hi Jen. Love your videos! Here is my question for you. What are some of your favorite book and movie or TV show adaptations? Are there sure hidden gems or duds to know about? Are there some older ones and more obscure? (Eg Thornbird mini series, etc)
Love these questions! I'm going to have to think about these!
What are your favorite books of all time and do you like to re-read books. What book have you re-read the most.
Love these questions!
Would you consider doing reading sprints, discord or starting a Patreon account? If not, are you planning anything different for your channel? I love your channel and all of it’s lovely account. Congratulations on 2,000. Well deserved and so happy for you.
Love these questions! I'll answer them more fully in the video but I have considered all of the above! ☺
Congratulations! is there a book that you love so much that you would like everyone to read?
Thank you! That is a very good question!
I’m excited to have someone else that will be reading The Growing Summer and I will get back to the Mary Stewart after I finish My Brother Michael. So glad about your recommendation for the Emma M. Lion series. I was skeptical in the first book and it grew on me throughout. And I’m loving the series now, just started number five.
I'm glad you are enjoying Emma! It's such a fun, escapist series!
One more thing, I have been considering an "Austen in August" focus. That's typically my reading slump time.
We'll see ...
Good luck with that! Let me know how it goes. 😊
Do you have a favorite book by Barbara Pym and PG Wodehouse? Or a suggestion of where to start with either of them?
Interesting questions! I'll have a think on those!
Congrats 🎉 Question: what’s your favorite location for a book to take place?
Thank you! Great question…I have to think about that one!
Congrats on your 2K. It's a joy to be subscribed. My question is, who has influenced you most on your reading journey and how did they do that?
Thank you for your kind words! And what a great question! 💗
I am so happy that you enjoy making content on Booktube because I love watching your videos. I have already loved some of your author recommendations. I just finished my first novel written by Marcia Willett (Seven Days in Summer) and loved it. I can’t wait to read her backlist.
Two questions for you (your choice) …
1. You won a year long trip to a tropical island but you are allowed to take only 5 books. What books will you bring with you?
2. if you could live in any fictional small town where would you live and who would you hope to be your next door neighbor? 😊
Congratulations on 2,000!
Thank you so much! And I'm so glad you tried Marcia Willett and loved her! And thank you for your very fun questions!!!
I'd love to know how your reading life started - were you a bookworm as a little girl? or when did you really start reading?
Love these questions! I can't wait to answer them. Thanks!
I'm so glad you edited this because I just got scared. I will be reading Firebird for the Cozy Reader Book Club and am looking forward to it!!
Hahaha!! I thought the same thing!
My brain some days! It's amazing I remember anything at all for these videos! 😂
@@michaelmccarty I couldn't believe I almost forgot it!!! 😳😂
Do you prefer reading at a specific time of the day? If you do, when do you prefer reading? And for how long do you read a day, generally?
Great questions! Answers coming soon. 😀
What is your favorite first line and last line of a book?
Share what you are comfortable sharing about your life.
Thank you! Great question...I'm going to have to think on those!
I keep meaning to read Still Life too!
I hope we both like it!
Since I have been watching book loggers I realise at the tender age of 70 I have truly restricted my reading experience. Very much a Russian Literature and non fiction History fanatic until recently. Thank you, unfortunately I would need another 50 years to get to grips with all the wonderful books out there! Enjoy your reading everyone.
You should definitely read what you love!!! ❤
Congratulations on 2k subscribers! Your videos are auto-watch for me. I’m going to read Dorothy Sayers in August based on your videos. For your Q&A, which mystery authors are your favorites? Are you able to rank them? Thanks!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy Dorothy Sayers. And thanks for your question...that one is going to require some thought!😉
Q: Is there a genre you struggle with and why?
Oh, I'm excited to answer this one! 😁
Congratulations on your 2K achievement. It doesn’t surprise me that it happened so fast. You are so easy to listen to and I enjoy hearing your thoughtful options on the books you read. I would like to know what type of camera you use for recording your videos. They have such a bright, needy quality about them. Some of that is probably because of the cheery yellow paint in your room, but I like the clarity of your camera as well.
Thank you SO much for your kind words - they really mean a lot to me! And that's a great question...stay tuned for the answer!
You should defo do your own Jane Austen January
I agree.
I think I might have to! There seems to be lots of interest. 😊
Do you have a favorite genre you like to read from?
Great question!
Question: Were you always a big reader?
Great question!
Hi Jen, Q and A: Did you have a teacher or individual inspire your love for Reading? Did it come as a child or as an adult?
Thank you for your question! That’s a great one! 😊
Congratulations on reaching 2k subscribers. I know you like ballet so my question is what books/ authors do you like best with a ballet theme/background, both adult and children's? Also do you get the chance to see any live ballet where you live? Anne in Llanidloes, Wales.
Thank you Anne! And thank you for your great questions!
So thrilled for your channel's growth and glad you started a channel! I would love to ask what classics you don't get the hype for. Looking forward to the q&a!
Thank you so much, Kate! Thanks in large part to you! 💗 I love that question and I have some thoughts on it for sure, lol!
Congratulations on 2k subscribers 🎉 Do you have a favorite online bookshop? Or do you prefer to buy books at an actual brick and mortar shop?
Thank you! And thank you for your questions. 😊
Congratulations! Is there a classic that you have wanted to read but it intimidates you?
Thank you! And great question!
I VOTE FOR JANE AUSTEN JANUARY!! Please launch 😂😂
It sounds like there's lots of interest so it will be coming!!!!
Congrats on 2K! How do you organize your shelves? Alphabetical? Genre? Unread/read? Or do they organically organize themselves as you finish books and pull other books to read? Your videos are lovely and always “force” me to add to my TBR ❤
OH STOP!!!! 🥰 Ok, Madame Librarian, great question!!!! 😘
Jen, congratulations on reaching 2,000 subsribers!! 🎉🎉🎉 My daughter, who is quite a reader, is getting married. She and her fiancée are having a vintage-book inspired wedding. Do you have any classic books that you recommend that center around weddings? Thank you, Karin
Thank you so much! And congrats to your daughter! I'm going to have to think about your question...that's a really good one! 💕
Congratulations on 2k! I would be interested to know what your “usual” reading schedule is. You get through so many books…..for how many hours do you read each day? (Not holidays but the everyday).
Thank you so much! And that is a great question. I will definitely answer it in my video but maybe I'll have to vlog a day in my reading life so everyone can see what that looks like!
Just recently found you and am loving your content. I like the idea of Jane Austin January. I fall into slumps frequently so my question is what are your tips for getting out of a slump?
Thank you so much! Jane Austen January is looking like it's going to happen so stay tuned! And thank you for your question...that's a really good one!
Congrats on 2K subscribers! My question is: how do you organize your shelves? Alphabetical by author, or perhaps clumped together by genre? As I don't live in the USA, my other question was whether I am eligible for this giveaway.
(perhaps it is in the fine print for show notes, I will take a look). If not, that's a-okay. Your channel is fun, and you've inspired me in my reading life. That's definitely a win! Looking forward to what's ahead.
Thank you, Susan! And thank you for your question! and in answer to whether you are eligible - the answer is YES! I will just do a slightly different gift if the winner is international. 😊
Question - What category of nonfiction are you most likely to read?
LOVE this question!
Hi Jen, I want to read Touch not the Cat again too. Yea! I also want to reread Katherine by Anya Seton again too, but that means I have to find copies of those books again. I seem to want to read whatever you read.Ha. But I agree, just read what you feel like at the time. I love that and do it all the time.😊 Thank you!
Do you remember the first book (when you were very young) where you realized “Hey, I can read this!” ?
I had a Golden book of Lady and the Tramp, and I was enjoying the pictures when I had that breakthrough moment and I was full of joy!😊😊😊
Oh Anya Seton, I loved that book, I read it on the beach in August 1967! Thank you for a happy memory 😊.
That's the one "problem" with Booktube...I also want to read what everyone else is reading too! 😂 And I love your question...that is really taking me back and making me think about my early reading days!
Congratulations on 2 K subscribers 👍. I am wondering where your really nice edition of Cashelmara is from! I hope you have a great summer ⛱️🌞.
Thank you so much! Cashelmara I found through thriftbooks.com! It was a very lucky find!
I recently purchased quite a few books based on your recommendations, one of them being Life Among the Savages by Shirley Jackson. I laughed so much throughout that book 📚. Such a pleasure to read and so relatable as an almost 40 year old mother of 2. I’m really enjoying your channel and all of your recommendations. Congratulations 🎉🍾 on reaching 2k and cheers to many more! What book or books have stood the test of time as a read that you still think about today as a favorite and would categorize as a solid recommendation to someone else ? XO Chelsea
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found my channel and are enjoying it. ☺ And thank you for such a great question!
Hi Jen! Love your channel! My questions: Who is your current favorite author? What authors have been most meaningful to you in different phases of your life (childhood, high school, early adulthood, or other)? Thank you for your always interesting videos. Jill
Thank you so much for your kind words! And I love your questions...can't wait to answer them!
Love your channel and your bright personality so much! Are there any genres you've really tried to "get into" but find you just can't get any traction or interest?
Thank you so much for your sweet words! And thank you for your question...that's such a good one!
I would love to know what your buddy reads look like!
Great question! I’ll add it to the list for my Q&A video. 😊
I’ve never been good at TBRs. I’m just too much of a mood reader. I don’t recall you ever mentioning Ebooks so my question is, do you have a Kindle and if so do you read much on it?
I love to mood read too! Thank you for your question! Answer coming up soon!
How do you track your reading, and have you done it differently in the past?
Great questions! Thanks!
After listening to you, AND how upsetting my summer will go; I have just decided to do the same...scrap the TBR! Already lined up at home. I will DEFINITELY read The Shell Seekers. Waiting for my friend to bring it in. A few stories left in The Blue Bedroom. Was disappointed in that title's actual story. What did you think of the story (bluebdrm?) Love the others. Also reading: The Second Mrs. Astor by Shane Abe. Bought it maybe 3 yrs. ago. Sounded super good, by now, I'm struggling through. Only up to about pg. 50. That is a very good reason to NOT buy SOOO many bks. ahead, OR read them when you buy them! Tastes change...🤔. When I saw you posted I said to myself " WOO-HOO"! Thanks!
I actually liked the title story in The Blue Bedroom but can see why it might not be for everyone. I thought it really captured how that moment would have felt.
Hi Jen, I love your videos and book recommendations! I'm looking forward to more time to read now that I have retired from teaching a month ago! My question is when did you become an avid reader and how much did your teachers/parents play into that?
Thank you so much and congratulations on your retirement! I love your question and am looking forward to answering it!❤
Congratulations on 2K!!! 🎉🎉🎉 My question is does your husband enjoy reading, too? I wish mine did! Love all your videos 😊
Thank you so much!!! And thank you for your question, I'll be answering it in my Q&A video!

I love your book selections! I’ve become a used Persephone shopper here on the mid coast of Maine and I’ve scored some gems thanks to you. I read very eclectically and the one genre I dip into occasionally that I don’t think I’ve ever seen you review is horror. Do you ever go there? For me, I love haunted houses but if it’s too gruesome I dnf. Keep doing what you’re doing please :-)
I'm so glad you have found some Persephone books! And thank you for your question, I'll be answering it in my Q&A video!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it!
What does your reading schedule look like?
Thanks for your question! Answer coming soon!
This is only my 2nd video of yours to watch, so you've maybe already said in the past. How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I don't think I've answered that on here specifically but I will!
Hi Jen. Loving all your videos. My question: what are some love/hate book and movie or TV show combos you've experienced? Are there some lesser known ones we should know about or maybe some very cheesy duds?😂
Thank you! Great questions. I love the cheesy duds...I am sure I've watched something that would qualify!
What would be your desert island book?
Is there a book that was a favorite in childhood but didn't hold up as an adult?
Great questions! Thank you so much!
Hi Jen -- you'll get to 4K before 2025! Yours is one of my top 5 book-tuber channels to catch up on... thank you for being here! I'm sooooo with you for 'Janeuary' ( Jane Austen January ). I do love to watch the Jane Austen July videos though - as I am intrigued with what people find for a contemporary read.
I too struggle with July reads, typically I'd have to say my 1st choice genre is Historical Fiction with classics being 2nd probably..🥴 but I don't tend to go for either of these in July or August. I want something with a summer vibe - or a light read. I just started 'People You Meet on Vacation', my first Emily Henry read.
Question for your 2KQ&A = what 5 books would you wish you had with you if you were stranded somewhere and 2nd - have you met any authors?
I hate to be without at least one book and my kindle when I'm away from home ~ AT ALL TIMES 😌
Thank you so much for your sweet words! It sounds like there is lots of interest in "Jane-uary" so I think I will be putting that together! And thank you for your great questions!
Have you ever been gifted a book the memory of which has stayed with you for years? I remember when I was in elementary school and received my first hard cover chapter book. I can still see it in my mind. It was my first real treasure!
Oh my goodness, great question! The answer is definitey YES but I will share some specific memories in my video!
Hello Jen, have you ever read a South American author?
I almost just answered that here but I will save it for my Q&A video! Thank you!
Here is my question for the Q&A…….If you were stranded somewhere, and could have only one book, which one would it be?
Great question! Stay tuned for my answer...
As a library user who sometimes gets carried away, I'm curious how many books have you checked out at one time at a library?
Oooohhh...great question! I often get carried away myself! 😁
Just subscribed recently. :) My favorite genre is Non-Fiction. Do you have a favorite Non-Fiction book that you have read yet this year?
Thank you for the question. Answer coming soon! 😁
We❤your channel.
Thank you! ☺️
What is your go to comfort read. The book you reach for when life is crazy ❤
What book do you find yourself recommending the most often for others to read? ❤
Great questions! I can't wait to answer them!😊
As I watch various book videos, I see people say they read 200 + books a year ( one person even said she read 600). Do you think they are doing it just for the numbers? A "normal" book to me is between 300 to 450 pages long and a big book is over 500 pages. Just found you. Good luck with your you tube channel.
Maybe they read full-time? Or read very short books? I could see reading 200 books in a year but 600 seems a bit much to me! I would also consider the type of books they are reading. Is it 200 fairly quick to read romance or thriller or mystery? Or are we talking dense classics which require more time and concentration?
I would hope they are being honest. There’s no need to inflate your reading numbers. Whether you read 1 book or 100 books in a year, it’s all good and it’s all reading! 😊
Is your husband and/or son big readers as well?
Very good question! Stay tuned. 😉
Congratulations on 2k! So many more to come, I’m sure! 🤍 What are some of your favorite sources for finding new book recommendations?
Thank you Meg! And that is a GREAT question!😊
