- Hey everyone, we've been planning on replacing the factory radio in the 4Runner for quite some time, but just hadn't gotten around to it...until now! This is typically a $150-$250 job for an installer, so I thought I would video it and show you how you could save some money. I have some links below where I purchased all the equipment. Hope this video helps and please let me know if you have any questions.
Here are the links to everything, but make sure you double check with each web site to ensure they will fit your make and model.

Great install, reminds me of my younger days when I worked for Radio Shack and I sold all my buddies car stereos, then installed them.
Very clean informative well spoken Demonstration Video Nice work
Video was super entertaining very much enjoyed the video you communicated during the entire video drives me mad when people don't talk for minutes at a time awesome work
Thanks for the kind words!
@@handy.ginger your very welcome
Awesome video,great explanation
Just subscribed
Thanks! Glad I could help.
Thank you, subbed
Great video. I need to do the same on my 07 4Runner. The wiring seems a bit intimidating though.
I was nervous about it as well but it’s not all that bad. They are mostly color coded if you buy the parts I suggest. If you do, you can also contact Crutchfield and they will help you through the process if you get stuck.
For $25 Crutchfield will wire it all for you. It was basically plug and play. Super easy for me
If I install a backup camera to my license plate, can this be wired to the radio as well? I see there is a camera option on the screen/menu, so assuming it's just connecting a wire vs. there being a separate connection/port for it?
Do you still need this info? Do you also have a 4runner? Let me know, I can help you out.
I have another video I’m working on editing that shows how to add a backup camera that will hopefully be getting out there soon.
@@johncortez1599I’m doing the same and was wondering if a backup camera can be added. The license plate camera is also what I’ll be using
I am assuming the only downside to the connection to the OBD port is that it has to be uplugged when diagnosing or smogging the vehicle, would you agree?
Yeah that is true. I was hoping for a different option but that’s the best I could find.
Which wiring harness should I get if the one in your description is out of stock?
That’s a great question. I would contact crutchfield as they would have more experience to answer it.
I guess my stock head unit was different so I bought the same wiring interface and that didn’t work out for me :( back to the drawing boards
Sorry to hear that. I purchased mine from crutchfield and their customer service is usually really good to help with things like this. I would give them a call and see if they can help.
that basketball sound got omg
Lol. Yeah I didn’t realize it was going to be so noisy on the video.
thank you
My pleasure.
How do you like this head unit after 3 months? Sound better? Quick Bluetooth connection?
It was great! Unfortunately this vehicle was in an accident with a semi and was totaled so I no longer have it 😞. Very sad but was happy with the radio in every way.
@@handy.ginger Man that sucks! Glad you are ok! Are you looking for another one?
What is the purpose of the o b d two connector to the radio
It’s to allow the radio to know when the car is in reverse.
@handyginger2951 odd way to do that but thanks!
@@handy.gingerso if I’m not planning on doing a backup camera would I still need to run the OBD2?
Did this come with the usb port ?
Yes it did!
Can I hire you do to this? Have new to me 2003 4runner
Unfortunately I’m not for hire, sorry
Where are you located?
Did you ever think of using a light if your going to make video's!! Duh!
