Why A Flathead? In this series, we explore old school
My first time I have seen them. Heard about them. Now I am doing one in my big Block Chevy I am glad I found your video. Thanks a bunch.🙂
Right on!
Just WOW... Mr. Solis your instructions are pretty much dummy proof . Im currently going to subscribe to your channel your instructions were like a teacher but with patience
Thank you so much for your comment, made my day!!!!🙌
Thank you for making this video! I especially like the alignment block tip😎
I thought the heli coil had to go to the bottom of the hole. You taught me something today thank you
Thanks for this video I'm getting ready to install a hilicoil on my spindle to hold a brake caliper. I special like the tips on how to keep everything straight.
You're a great teacher. Inspiring confidence. Thanks
I appreciate that!
AWESOME VIDEO DANNY!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see ya making videos again tooo!!! Welcome back! We ready to take on the world!! HAHAHA!!
Thanks Faye, we can do this! 😎
Have all the faith in the world in you two
My knew favorite quote:
"Use tools, don't be a tool" - Danny Soliz
We had several drawers full of those helicoils of diferent sizes, we just called 'em "muelles"; what i liked the most has been those two tips, at least one rev down the hole and recycle what you've, it could be a tool, not trash. Take care and be well was great to have you back, to have everyone back.
Danny a tip for you. I recently tore the crap out my thumb nail worse than yours. I "Repaired it" with super glue and a tea bag. Cut out two or three tea bags the size of your thumb. Now like laying out fiber glass put one nice drop of super glue on your thump nail and smooth it out a bit and lay the tea bag over it and smooth it out. Apply another drop and repeat the process. Once you have the two or three layers built up let it dry hard.. Use a nail file a smooth it out. Not only does the nail look better it also reinforces it better than new. Absolutely amazing. As the nail grows out just adding super glue builds it back up.
Thanks for that tip , I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks
Great video Daniel, with great tips. My problem is a stripped spark plug hole. Searching videos for that but you gave really good incite on procedure. Thanks again.
Thanks, for spark plugs I like a solid insert. KD tools use to make them. I find them on eBay. Hope this helps.
Great stuff Danny! I can't wait to see what knowledge you share in the next video.
Thanks 4 sharing Dani. The alignment jigs are a steller method to obtain superior results. Best to you and yours.
Same to you!
nice job! I needed to know about the tap. was not sure if if was the same as a tap and die and you said it is a special size. thanks for the info.
The heil-coil kit comes with the tap, coils and installation tool. 👍
Nice video. As others have said, I like the alignment block tip. Very smart and easy. Thx.
Glad it was helpful!
Did he say go to harbor freight and if noone is around use their drill press? lmao
BIg gator tools makes a nice drill guide!
Thanks Danny I have never done this before.
Excellent thanks man!
thanks for the advice. ive always thought helicoils were installed flush. Thanks for the 1 1/2 thread below advice.
Thanks Danny!, looking forward to the next group. :)
Part of the reason you back off on the tap when cutting is to clear the chips off. This makes for a smoother cut thread. I cringe when ever I see those shows where some guy just chucks the tap up in a drill and has at it.
Love your videos keep them coming!!
And it didnt go in the motor!! Lol great walk through and good tips along the way
Thanks 👍
Great tips!
Daniel Your Video, about installing a Helicoil is Awesome 👍👍👍👍
Glad you liked it!
Great video, thanks
Nice video with neat tips 👍😎🥵
Thanks 👍
You save my life brotha
AB Tools makes the best helicoil kits going. Comes the proper drill, tap , sturdy driver tool and tang breaker punch , 8 inserts. About the same price as s the kits that only come with the tap and driver & inserts from other companies .
Best video yet. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
@@MrDanielSoliz ordered my helicoils . The inserts don't fit the tool snug. It's like they are tad bit bigger. Is that normal?
@@jonathanbrown834 yes they are slightly bigger the the install tool, when there installed they will be the right size.
@@MrDanielSoliz ok thank you. Here we go. Hopefully I do this just as you did. Thanks for the help..
It came out good thank you
Time-Sert is stronger whereas Heli-coil may work for only 1-2 removals and bolt installs.
Nice video. Like to add you can get longer depth helicoils for deep holes.. Although not recommended by helicoil I would have cleaned the hole with acetone and added loctite to the helicoil. Then had a greased bolt to put in the hole with a spacer long enough to allow me to torque it down.. Let it set to cure and then remove bolt. That way all the slack is removed in the threads and it is as solid as the block.......This would be over kill for most repairs. Just my 2 cents.
Great tips
Great video !
Glad you enjoyed it
Maybe a dumb question, but do you tap the entire length of the drilled hole? Or can you stop at the depth you want the Helicoil to stop at? I’m not sure if the Helicoil would have a tendency to migrate further into the hole when the bolt is inserted, if the tapped threads go the entire length of the hole.
I do tap the hole all the way down. You don’t need to,just make sure you there’s enough threads for the heil-coil or it will shrink on you and lock the bolt. Brodix aluminum heads installs heil-coil on the rocker stud holes and they go into the intake port. They won’t move on you if done right. I’ve never had one move on me.👍
@@MrDanielSoliz ok awesome! Thanks for the advice!
What do you do in a spark plug hole to prevent shavings in the cylinder?
Wheel bearing grease on the tap work great. 👍
Hi Danny Can you do video on how seal savers work and how to install them. When the old seal has worn a groove into the output snout of the crank shaft, it's suggested to use a seal saver along with a new seal. How this all works?
Great idea, they have also changed how there made and I found a better way to do it. Awesome thanks. Can’t wait for the next one. 👍
Awesome tip Danny
Thanks 👍
Another great video brother.
Thanks for making this video, extremely helpful!!
This is the first time I used a helicoil to repair a stripped out hole.
I made an aluminum drill hole guide as suggested which allowed me to drill a nice straight hole.
Is the helicoil removable (drill it out) once it is inserted should it get stripped in the future?
Glad it was helpful and yes you can remove it but not by drilling it. Just take a pick and get behind the coil and it will pull right out with some pliers. Pulls right out and you can install a new coil.
@@MrDanielSoliz Sounds good, thanks!
Awsome Exelent Exebition. Te Avientas 🎉
Use tools, don't be a tool! Hahaha! Word's of wisdom Danny, words of wisdom:) Hi shopmom:)
That could be a button too:) but the " I'm in training" is still the best:)
It slices, it dices, it juliennes, Heli-Coil!
Wow some great tips. Just when i thought i knew how to use a helicoil. Only issue i ran into was breaking the tang. What about stacking helicoils?
I should of spent a little more time on the tang breaking and you should be able to stack them.👍
Hi can I install this in a sump pan im just worries about the thread mixing in the oil?
If you don't know what a tap or die is that could be another video?
No, if you don't know what a tap or die is DON'T ATTEMPT what's being demonstrated in this video!😂
Brother, can I use locktite with a helicoil?
Sure can, I’ve used sealer on helicoils that go into water. No problem.
Why do you have to cut threads so deep when helicoil only uses few of them ... I dont understand , could you please explain ?
You should only need to cut as many threads as you need, just make sure you cut enough.
Great job, t the best I have seen, thinks
Wow, thanks!
Hello, that dark stripe down your fingernail could be a sign of very bad health condition. Please go see your doctor immediately.
🙏 thanks
You talk too much
Thank you very much I’m fixing and old ,old, very old rust exhaust mani on a Cessna 310. Broke 2 of them after putting rtv and new gaskets and everything. So dumb. I should a checked before I put em together. See kids even old guys are still learning.
As a mech A&P FAA CERTIFIED. I AM ALWAYS LEARNING ! The day you think you know it all. You don’t .
You can be good even great but even the greats will say they learn new things daily. That’s how they got that way. INMHO.
MIKE KLZU.
PS thank you kindly for taking the time to make this for us mechanics who don’t have a good example.
Thank you very much. So helpful. I liked and subbed.
My only question is domwe use the same torque in the MM ? I have to as an airplane tech.
Didn’t know if it changes anything. I know you prolly won’t be able to weigh in on this due to legal reasons so if you can’t answer I totally get it. Liabilities a mother in my biz.
Thank you! If I understand the question correctly you would still use the same torque. 👍
