- This week on Buckle Up Harry drives the Ford Ranger Raptor, a beefed up, off road ready, dune bashing version of one of the world's great peoples cars. Both a tool and an item of desire, the new Ranger has has big shoes to fill, and the biggest shoes go to this V6 all terrain toy who has to live up to it's iconic older brother, the F-150 Raptor, so can it?
Can it keep up against rivals such as the Jeep Gladiator, Isuzu D-Max, SsangYong Musso, Chevrolet Colorado, Chevy S-10, Maxus T90EV, Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian RT1, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Navara, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi L200, Mitsubishi Triton, Fiat Fullback, Mercedes X-Class and I guess the Toyota Hilux although they won't let me test one so it's impossible to say...

How is the seat comfort for a big guy? I worry the bolstering will be tight.
The seat is more orientated to comfort than sportiness
0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds is on par with an Aston Martin DB5 and the 2+2 E type jags. Sure, part of that was done to tyres used 60 years ago….. but it does give some perspective.
TBF I'm not sure the raptor would do that time on the tires it comes from factory with, on road traction is not what they were designed for
Raptor does 4.9 here in Aus after it gets the factory tune and intercooler upgrade.
You get a much better tune of the engine from the get go, that's good to know though because presumably even though we only start with 292 ps the mods and tuning should still be able to take it to the same level

Still quite a way behind its bigger brother. The F250 with the high output diesel is under 6 seconds.
Most pickup trucks are not over 10 seconds 0 to 100km/h. Maybe they are in the UK, but you won't find many that are slower than this Euro Ranger Raptor in Canada or the US. Even the 8,000+ lb F450 with the standard output diesel gets to 100km/h in under 7.5 seconds.
If you listen very closely I say "in terms of pickup trucks in this country"
@@BuckleUpShow Did not hear the "in this country part". Apologies and they need to start shipping quicker trucks to the UK. We have a requirement that a truck has to be able to accelerate to 60 mph, with a trailer that weighs the maximum tow rating of the truck, in 30 seconds for SRWs and 35 seconds for DRWs.
Well thanks to bureaucracy the most a truck can ever tow here is 3500 KG, because you need a commercial license to do more than that. I’d be interested to see if any of the UK trucks can hit those targets with a full load though

From the 700k+ they've sold of this engine in America they've only replaced 809, not bad odds. Also the rest of the world are capable of carrying out engine maintenance at sensible intervals which helps too
