I am a Japanese but my nationality and literacy do not have distinct advantages to feel the emotion stirred by this song performed by Su-Metal and Kamis, especially Legend-S version. I have been, however, struggling with one thing. The interpretation of 2 phrases of the lyrics. "Dooshite Waratteta No ?" and "Dooshite Sabishikatta Noni ?" have been translated into "Why was I smiling ?" and "Why so though feeling lonely?". As usual in Japanese language, these phrases had no subjects. The current translation looks theoretical and self-explanatory. Su is asking about her own facial expression which was not explainable even to herself. My interpretation is a little bit different. Right before these phrases, Su is singing "the future without you". She is not using "him" but "Kimi = you". In my understanding "Kimi" is used when "I" address someone whom "I" am looking at. So I have an impression that these two phrases are addressed to a person whom she lost (boyfriend?) and his blurred image appeared in her insomniac night. And his image is smiling happily. So Su is asking why "Kimi" is smiling in spite of his unhappy situation in reality (dead, perpetual separation etc.) that results in leaving her alone. My interpretation may be weird. In addition, I am not able to translate my understanding into English. That is the problem.
There are many opinions about the interpretation of whether Su is talking to the other person or herself. I myself had the same interpretation of this as you did. But now I don't mind either interpretation. It's a song that goes from sadness to hope, so it doesn't diminish the value of this song in either sense.

One can easily imagine a Suzuka Nakamoto that never transformed into Su-metal perform this on national television, walking down a broad stair. It has, for me, an almost hollywoodesque quality. It's an honor thing about why it's not performed often. The song is in honor of those lives lost in the Hiroshima bombing in WW2. The first time she performed it was at a Hiroshima concert. She will only perform it every so often, and only in Japan. She's only performed it 5 times in 10 years, and I believe only 3 times it was recorded. Su-metal said she didn't like her 2nd recorded performance, and I can see how different that one was from this first one you're watching, and the later on Legend S performance.
And also, you could tell by the strain in her voice that Suzuka was trying her hardest to hold back tears. It truly is an emotional song, and I understand why it isn't performed that often anymore.
I'm pretty sure I came across your channel from a random, infrequent search for 'Babymetal reaction' but I'm glad I did. And I'm also glad you put 'analysis' in the titles too. Because these aren't 'reaction' videos in the currently accepted sense. You analyse and disect the meaning, lyrics, performance, and music more than 99% of UA-cam 'reactions' do. And this has two major consequences. 1) It is accepted that you have already heard these songs before. This (both musically and lyrically) is very important. 2) It's pretty hard work to absorb all you are saying. If a 'reaction' is a chat to a guy down the pub, what you are doing is a handing over a graduate thesis to a guy down the pub. I welcome this greatly. Most people can do (or fake) a reaction. Analysis, though, takes a lot more effort, insight and understanding. I'm not saying I think you always get it right, or that this even matters. It's just surprising and enriching to hear someone talking passionately about something I am myself passionate about without pretending to either know nothing or everything about it. I hope that makes some sense. [Edit. Oh yeah. I always skip this song on my playlist if I'm driving. It's just a bit of grit in my eye. Or an eyelash, maybe. Yeah, there's a lot of slang in Sis Anger but it's PG not R. Translators sometimes use stronger English to convey intensity of feeling but that's not what the original does, partly because Japanese doesn't work that way. SA has a lot of colloquialism and informality, but it doesn't contain curse words as we understand that term in English.
Last performance of this song was December 2017. It was released in 2018. It was Su's birthday month (think 20 years old) in her hometown of Hiroshima, first concert without Yui, and not knowing at the time was the last for Mikio. You completely missed all of that. Since it was released after Mikio's death, the video has a focus on him. That is why it fades to him during the verse of "We may never see each other again.." The change in her performance is also attributed to being a grown woman now and not a little kid as in her first performance.
With respect, I didn't miss those things. I didn't talk about them for the same reason I didn't talk about the Hiroshima bombing: because the song itself isn't expressly about those things.

If not with respect, what was the purpose of the review/reaction? Do you think singing in your hometown, on your birthday, while one of your members is no longer there, would affect a performance? I am sure at this time they knew Yui may not be coming back. (Not the PR fluff the public gets to know). I'm sure Yui leaving was more than a health reason. I have noticed in Japan when a band member leaves, "health reasons" is code for anything but health reasons. She was probably tired of the act, grew up and wanted to move on. As for Mikio's passing and video release in 2018... How is that not relative or worth a mention?

The Corporation Amuse/Koba J Pop factory does. The girls are well trained performers and do what they are trained to do. In recent years they moved away from what "Baby Metal" was intended. Now they are more "Idol" than "Metal". The Kami band has been masked, put to the back and new songs are now more pop/techno etc. NRNR and Amore have not been done since 2017 and Akatsuki done occasionally with the last one being a watered down performance this year. With the band members hidden in corners on floor and a fake Muscle Metal duo coming out during the solo. They are now grown women in their 20s. It was fun while it lasted.
