- I definitely want to dig into more Japanese metal, this is for sure. I held my last BABYMETAL analysis due to copyrights two years ago, and since then we've been fortunate enough to be able to clear things better. So, bring it on! For the time being, let's take a deep dive into "Akatsuki" live!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to BABYMETAL performing "Akatsuki" for the first time.

Let's face it, Elizabeth reacting to any type of Metal is going to make my day 🤘🏻.
Agreed
Yeah especially one of my fav bands of all time.
Truth!
Especially seeing her getting all sorts of shivers and such! :D
English isn't my native language, but I believe the expression is getting giddy? :-) Somehow that expression seems to make most sense seeing her in her reactions.
@@MarcelNL Giddy and shivers are slightly different. Giddy is more in the head and shivers are more in the body. But they're similar.
@@oftheborg Haha alright, thanks! :) Still it's the first thing that comes to my mind if I see her shake her shoulders and softly biting her tongue! :P
Stepping away from the vocals for a second, Su's stage presence, composure and performance are also remarkable. I understand that her name is Suzuka and she is 16 years old (here). I teach kids only a year or two younger than she is here. So you notice how strong Suzuka's on-stage 'Su-Metal' persona is, how well she broadcasts that 'Su-Metal' performance; the confidence and strength she displays, evoking and communicating with the crowd. She is out there ALONE, not relying on stage tricks to draw your attention, yet she is really engaging. I'm sure a lot of her stage-craft is trained and rehearsed, but good for her, she's nailing it. Even when not singing, she doesn't stop working the crowd and engaging, keeping the crowd's interest and focus. That HAS to be draining. Yet she never breaks character to be a 16 year old that is getting tired from the load up there. Gonna be interesting to see her continue to develop and mature as a singer and performer.
The major enjoyment I get is that she hits the notes, first time. None of the falsetto that others need to hide the fact they can't hang. Also none of the sneaking up on a note in order to adjust on the fly, again, because most can't hit the note right off the bat.
She one that personifies the difference between a person with a good voice, and one who is truly a singer.
She has also acted on several Japanese soap operas.
What a beautiful comment
Add to that stage presence the fact that with a single gesture she's able to command the fans to for a mosh pit, a wall of death or a circle pit, and you now know why we call her Queen.
Also, she was a child/teen theatre actress, having had some major roles too. Toss in the fact that she has a funny, almost dorky personality, and that she loves what she does, you've got a recipe for success.
Heck, even when Yui fell off the stage, Moa and Su kept going as professionally as they could.
What impresses me about babymetal is every song is so different
And Su-metal delivers amazing vocals in all of them, like Shanti Shanti Shanti and BxMxC, etc.
all different, all undeniably Baby Metal!
considering one of the original goals of the group was to make metal more accessible to a younger female audience, I tend to think of their songs, especially the earlier stuff, as a sort of metal sampler-pack.
@@daverboy yeah, each song is distinctly some different genre of metal
The first couple albums ranged from hard core, death metal, to nu-metal, to standard power metal, with a lot of pop mixed in.
Losing Yui made Black Babymetal more difficult which it was a lot of fun seeing Moa and Yui take center stage for tracks like, “Song 4,” and “GJ.”
My hopes are that with the new album we will hear more Moa, because she is also a great singer. See Headbangerr (Moa version).
all that you appreciate about Su is even more amazing when you realize she was only 16 years old here. how many at that age can be as professional as her.
Wow 16 that is Amazing. I say that people that sing that good at 16 have probably been singing since they were at least 8 if not younger and if they are like me at that age when I started singing looking back on it I realize that the more that I sang the more I enjoyed it and the more serious I was about becoming a good if not great singer
@@fresnokidsr Since she was 8? Well, close enough: ua-cam.com/video/Gd6OwEUFY-g/v-deo.html
In case you're not used to Japanese faces, she's the smaller sister on the right - notice how she handles little problems on stage, like obnoxious microphone cables.
@@ivarwind wow that was good. How long has they been performing by the time of that video?
@@fresnokidsr I don't know exactly - partly because I'm not sure exactly when the recording was made - but she'd been in TV commercials even before that. But I assume it must be before Karen Girls...
And here's Karen Girls' "Over the Future" in a mix of three different versions, with the actual Karen Girls live in 2008 (look at that audience!), Kikuchi Moa and Mizuno Yui Sakura Gakuin entrance exam version, and a later (but still very early) Babymetal version ua-cam.com/video/-VKW1g5ldnk/v-deo.html - I'd have linked to the full original live version, but it's hard to find... And of course Nakamoto Suzuka is the youngest and tiniest of the three Karen Girls in light blue and white, and must have been 10 at the time of the concert. There's also a music video version easily available, but the live version shows just how at home she looks on stage in front of a big audience. It kind of makes sense that half a decade later she'd completely control a stadium full of metal heads and other freaks... like me. :)
There was this story shared recently:
"I was born with a hearing impairment disability. Cannot clearly distinguish vowels and consonants. I have heard many singers, but with Su metal is the first time i can hear the lyrics. I was shocked to discover it when watching sonisphere in 2014. Ever since, my life has changed in many ways, i purchased expensive hearing aids and started to go to a lot of live shows (never went before). I have had many hardships in my life because of my disability, but more important than that, i want to say thanks to Su metal because she gave me the joy of hearing songs."
And I think it just speaks to how precise, surgical and piercing Su's vocals are.
❤
Very inspiring! I wish Suzuka would see that!
@@anthonypowell6234 I believe it was the top up voted Japanese comment on The First Take performance of Babymetal. It has a high chance of being noticed.
@@autohmae That would be superb!
Wow😍
She just fills the whole stage, and I think she was only 16 years old there, right? What a presence and what a voice! 😍
Great reaction, as expected! Thank you for not forgetting about BABYMETAL!
You might have opened a can of worms with the timing of this one, as every BABYMETAL fan and their mother are now going to harass you to react to a very recent performance released by the UA-cam channel "The First Take". In case you don't know the channel, they basically have the artist perform (usually an instrumentally toned down version of) one or two of their songs and record the very first take without pauses or overdubs.
Su and Moa have performed a piano version of their recent song "Monochrome" for that occasion, and it was breathtaking. Even fanboys like me had their admiration for Su taken to new heights. The power and emotion on display is awesome, and never before have we gotten so close to her while she's singing. You can really see how much effort she puts into it to achieve the amazingly clear enunciation you just mentioned in this video.
It would be a great pleasure to see you react to that performance. Pretty please! :-)
With regard to the performance you just watched, I always find it amazing how much BABYMETAL shows have to offer aside from the simply great songs. There's the great musicianship of the instrumentalists, the cool stage designs, the amazing vocals, the positive energy, the hyped crowds, and usually there's a surprisingly entertaining dance choreography, which in this case (as it's a Su solo) has just been replaced by Su's sheer stage presence. It makes for the most complete package of entertainment I can think of.
"I love it when we get 2 guitars playing. I'm a sucker for harmony." You and me both!!! Loved that solo!
You pointed out some of Su's special qualities: precise pitch and pronunciation/enunciation. She is a master at both.
Not to mention that she is usually dancing through most of the songs.
She is 16-17 here (25 now) and has been performing professionally since she was 8.
@@jimnusbaum3589 and her stage presence is also amazing, probably because she has been in the spotlights since she was 3.
I've been a HUGE BABYMETAL fan since the days of Gimme Chocolate. Su-Metal, is one of the best JPop/Metal singers I've heard.
Did you see the post modern jukebox cover? It's how i discovered the band lol
@@CyberBeep_kenshi I had to look that one up. I'm a big fan of PMJ, but never heard this. I was a bit disappointed, but...
@@CyberBeep_kenshi It 's a great cover, love it
This is a very young Su. It was recorded in 2014. The quality of her voice has increased substantially over the years. At this point in her career Su was known for not having a volume control. She opened her mouth and the sound comes out full blast. The best example of her vocals was just released a few days ago with a "The First Take" performance of one of their new songs, Monochrome. It's just Su, Moa, a piano, and a mic. Live, un-processed, and in one take. Everything about her voice has grown and matured, and she's added her own version of a vibrato along with much more range and control in her lower register. Su's pronunciation is her super power. It's something that even carries over when she sings in English.
I believe that much of that lack of volume control comes from Suzuka starting her career so early. She already performed when she was only 6 years old and I think that she was then told to "give it all she had", because she already sang songs that her tiny frame couldn't really handle. And once you've learned to sing in that style it's very hard to adjust back to more "normal" levels. I think she does an excellent job of understanding how to use her vocals these days and she now has that volume control she lacked.
Japanese Music is always something special. (Congratulations on the birthday 🎉)
And loads of talent. Don't forget the loads of talent. 😉😉
Not only did she adjust her earpiece, she also had to free up her right hand in time to raise her pinky finger a moment later at the climax where she proclaims "Kizuna!" The raised pinky is Japanese symbolism for being forever tied to someone (kizuna) by an invisible red thread connecting one another's pinky finger. "No Rain, No Rainbow" next... you are ready.
for those who discovered Babymetal with this song there is a unfinished version... less metal but heartbraking....
Yea I kinda prefer the unfinished version. Both are great tho
I discovered them a few years ago with "gimme chocolate" and IDK, I think I prefer BabyMetal songs that have all the members.
So beautiful! Can only recommend to anyone 🤘🦊🤘
@@tommytomthms5 the solo songs are popular among fans, but the songs which have all the qualities: audience participation, great song, all members, etc. are the most popular among fans.
My heart never has brakes.
When this concert was performed Su had been a professional singer for 8 years and her older sister was also singing professionally so she had a good amount of experience and a lot of training by this point.
Babymetal live always when available.
The much less produced vocals shine brighter!
YES!!!! My favorite voice coach reacting to my favorite song and performance by my favorite band!!!!🤘🦊🤘
having my favorite vocal coach/reactor reacting to my favorite band, I'm in heaven.
I absolutely love your explanation of Su's vocals and to think she was only 16 years old in this performance . Can you imagine her now at 25 !
Well, you dont have to with all the recommendations for the performance of Monochrome on the First Take 😁❤🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Their Band is ridiculously good. Love Babymetal.
😇🤠
I haven't listened to Atasuki in a long time. After hearing Monochrome on the First Take, it is amazing to hear how mature her voice has become.
It has been mentioned before but the 'First Take' version of Monochrome by Babymetal is a wonderful example of how a voice can mature! Especially monochrome. At one point she holds the pitch so perfectly it sounds like a guitar string vibrating. It's instanity :)
The Japanese metal rabbit hole (or Foxhole in this case) is AMAZING.
Yea... The Kitsune!
Suzuka rocks a cape better than Superman. She is IMO one of the best live performers in the world.
That is the stance of a 16 year old girl with 20,000 people in the palm of her hand.
Already love it!
The last song analysed here was great too but only by watching their live performances you can really appreciate and understand Babymetal
You're so lucky to have found Suzuki Su-metal Nakamoto her entire singing history is on UA-cam going all the way back to when she was a little girl performing with her older sister Himeka Nakamoto they're singing Duo called tween when she was just about five or six years old you can track her progression as she got older and how much she improved over the years from singing as a little girl to being an adult
wait she used to perform with himetan??
@@BrendanThompson Yes her she and Himeka performed as "Tweens" while at Actor School Hiroshima (ASH). Himeka later became a first generation performer in the idol group Nogizaka46.
Please do more BabyMetal. It literally doesn't matter which one. They are all amazing.
Yes! Babymetal's music is perfect for your brand of reaction/analysis. As others have said, the live performances have a power and energy that the album recordings don't. I strongly recommend checking out "Monochrome - The First Take" which was just released like a week ago. Su's fully-matured voice is on full display with very little backing instrumentation so I think you'd find it very moving.
Rediscovered BABYMETAL thanks to your review of ‘KARATE’. It came at the perfect time for me.
Can't help it, when Su wraps herself in her cloak and then opens up: Nigh time, day time! Night time! Day time!
Oh, and as for precision: have a listen to the One Take piano version of "Monochrome"; I've had it on loop these past few days, it's astonishing
Core memory unlocked. That damn bird. 😂
You REALLY need to listen to the live “unfinished” version of the same song too! So amazing.
Watching her eyes connecting to the audience is also SOOOOO much fun to see
Never has there been a more deserving performance or vocalist of your praise and analysis! Su-Metal is on another world in terms of vocal skill and consistency when performing and doing choreography. Babymetal has just released a new album that easily deserves album of the year, definitely worth a reaction for one or more of the songs off of that new album. I would suggest Believing from a reaction stand point, and I would suggest Metal Kingdom from a vocal analysis standpoint! As always, love to Elizabeth, Su-Metal, and Babymetal! Thanks for the years of entertainment and support!❤
Years of training in Actors school Hiroshima and Sakura Gakuin produces this. She's been on stage since she was around 8 years old. Her voice now a days is even better!
Thank you so much for doing this analysis, i can only dream that some day you will get to the monochrome "first take version" and tell us more about the mouth shapes our Queen Su-Metal uses.
And here I simply love their name, Baby Metal. That is the reason why I started to listen to these Analitical videos that Elizabeth is doing on them. I think they are cool and have a cool sound.
absolutely amazing and wonderful song thanks for this reaction please please please more Babymetal live ❤❤❤❤❤🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
Japanese definitely focuses on different chord progressions than western music. The typical I V VI IV isn't popular. Starting with the IV is the bread and butter of Japanese music of all genres, especially the IV VII III VI and they do a lot of modulating as well.
Excellent reaction and analysis again, thank you. Live BABYMETAL is always the best choice if you are going to analyse Su-metal's vocals (just avoid the Glastonbury videos - the BBC made a real pig's ear of the audio .... and the camerawork wasn't great either).
This was filmed at the Budokan in Tokyo, a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also hugely prestigious venue for concerts that Japanese (and foreign) artists aspire to play (think a Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden equivalent). It was early in March 2014 and BABYMETAL became the youngest average age female band ever to headline there. Su-metal was not long turned 16.
9 years on and she has just got better and better - I see the First Take piano version of their recent song 'Monochrome' has been recommended a lot ... I have to agree, that would be perfect for a vocal analysis (and it is a beautiful song).
Su's voice is much more impressive these days. Perhaps you should try Monochrome both the visualizer video and the First Take performance to see how different that song can sound.
ua-cam.com/video/h-hPGRSjgms/v-deo.html&ab_channel=THEFIRSTTAKE
Definitely the First Take performance as there is only piano so you can hear her and Moa's voice directly
The First Take version makes me cry. And I love it all the more for it!!🤘🖤🤘
I second this absolutely, especially the First Take performance, it's wonderful.
I concur -the piano version makes me cry too.
I think this is one of the best live vocal performances I have ever seen from any artist. The clarity, strength, precision and emotion of Su's voice is simply mindblowing, while also holding her own against the frenetic, driving metal of the music. Easily the best version of Akatsuki. And she's 16.
(comment before the release): Thank you Elizabeth for this reaction/analysis, Babymetal is something special/different and I hope you were able to notice what makes Su-metal unique as well. Really looking forward to this video
Elizabeth got all the important things I was expecting, but in details in a lot of cases hasn't heard before. Don't know enough about Japanese is she got the Kami details correct, but it's not her expertise so not that important.
Su-metal at age 16 is amazing, at age 25 she is a beast. Her stamina, her breath control her precision, etc.
Another great reaction! I appreciate the extra insight into what she's doing to achieve the sound we all love.
There are some behind the scenes photos that show Su-metal holding an ice pack to her throat, so she definitely does feel the strain to some extent. She seems to take very good care of her voice, though. I've heard people say she sounds as good at the end of a tour as at the beginning.
The recently released Monochrome, Piano Version, is a vocal performance with a little piano and strings, from Su. It's majestic. PS Kami means God and so The Kami Band are The Gods Band or Band of Gods (so, not God's Band, but a band made up of musical gods). They wear corpse face paint and a corpse shroud. 🦊🤘🤘🦊
I love when you go all fan mode while listening to Su-metal’s voice. We’ve been there. We’ll keep being there too.
Very nice reaction, looking forward to more BABYMETAL🤘🏻🦊😄
More to come!
If you like solos you'd love Babymetal's Rondo of Nightmare. There is a solo for each guitar and the drummer at the start and they each last like a minute it's pretty awesome.
Glad you enjoy our Queen this much^^ Babymetal is just so good, my most listened artist for years on my spotify :D
BabyMetal is really impressive when you dig into it. Su-Metal can belt out some impressive notes and she has ZERO vibrato in there to mask any sort of pitch issues... thats just ballsy to stand up there in front of all that chaos playing behind her and crank out note after note as solid as she does. I firmly believe she doesn't use any autotune either which is just BADASS! With those notes coming out that straight and being held there, that 'wonk' would be grossly obvious. I have seen some videos were Moa gets an opportunity for center stage and I think thats a nice progression - the few I have seen.. she's darn capable as well.
The kami band changes a bit depending on the venue, but I am preferential to the Japanese lineup. If you look into it, these are some of the best in the game in Japan and it shows, and I do like it when they get to pop out a bit for some time in the light. RIP Mikio btw.
I wish the US hadn't lost its preference for good solid Rock, let alone metal music, and its a real testament to you Elizabeth that you illustrate its not just a bunch of hairspray and screaming. Japan sort of picked up the gauntlet (Marty Friedman, who participated in Megadeth's arguably best series of albums, moved and has lived there for 15+ years.. speaks Japanese fluently. Just saw him jump on stage with Dave at Budokan!). I think this group is a great example and has really been embraced by a lot of the 'old guys', which is awesome. Maybe Extreme's new album can tilt the scales?!
Her voice has repeatedly moved me to tears. So good...
If u control pitch! Harmony will not ignore u. It is in the atmosphere. I love this performance.
No rain no rainbow is a perfect example of their range as a band
Oh this is a GREAT performance. She's so talented.
Just wanted to add to the general clamor for you to react to the First Take piano version of Babymetal's Monochrome. Would, in fact, be happy to sit through a double feature if you wanted to compare the studio track to the First Take version in one go. I love the way you break down vocal performances and stay positive - I love learning from you!
If I ever wanted to see a Japanese Band live it will be this one. Babymetal Live always looks fun like hell.
Because it is ! 🙂
Thank you for doing this. Su is our Queen for a reason. Always a favorite showcase for Su. Even better at Tokyo Dome. And her voice keeps maturing. The new album that just came out is a tour de force for Su (and Moa). It’s next level which is mind blowing. What we all saw here is what we all hoped would blossom even more as they got older. It’s amazing to see it realized. But yeah, Su has always been our Queen. Otherworldly and due her respect.
Those women are just so damn good and so damn precise about everything.
Su is awesome, I've seen them live 3 times and it was amazing. Japanese is such a beautiful language and works very well musically even if you don't understand all of it.
Simply...The Queen!! No more words! Great react again beauty. See you at the next, Megitsune. 🤟🦊🔥🔥🔥
Just listen to the album version on everything and then watch it live and edit that part in before it hits youtube. We love our music based on the album version and they do try to recreate that live, it isn't always easy to do. More so with very talented groups.
This is how I introduced my daughters to music when they were toddlers, they loved baby metal.
Yes Su is young, but Babymetal started in 2010, so she is quite experienced by now :)
I love your channel!! U explain things sooooo well !!
Please Monochrome Piano Ver. The First Take 2023 !!!!
I had the privilege of seeing Babymetal live in Australia and you can FEEL their professionalism. Every look, movement... everything felt completely intentional. Not in a fake way at all, but boy do they know who to turn on the charisma. They aren't just jumping around smiling and hoping for the best.
Also... dude, Fist Take.. Babymetal Monochrome. Would love to see you Analyze Su's performance there.
I'd love to hear you react to their live performance of Road to Resistance, a big reason is you can see their ability to command and manipulate the crowd
I saw babymetal live in 2014 and I am SO happy they're still going strong! I love them
Finally a professional analysis of her voice instead of just the 'WOW - factor' we all had... (like in all the other reaction videos)
WoW!!! Great analysis. I love it when someone completely analyzes everything (outfit, production and instrumentation) particularly on SU-Metal's vocals.
Great reaction. I don't know if Su has ever talked about it or if it's an internet rumor but there was a claim she sang while running on a treadmill to work on her voice stability and stamina when performing.
Su-metal joined her first group, Karen Girl's, in 1998, I believe at 10 years old. I think she's 16 in this video and you can absolutely see the end result of all those years of training, combined with a healthy dose of raw talent. The people who put Babymetal together really knew what they were doing, and still managed to underestimate the power of what they created!
I think you meant 2008 :p
@@TheLeomarti You're right, I mixed her birth year up with Karen Girl's 🤦
Every babymetal song is like 5 songs in one. So intense
I have been a fan of Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) back just before the Sakura Gakuin was formed. it was when Babymetal released their first album that I fell in love with the group and the music. Now for the next vocal analysis should be Rondo of Nightmare live with the mischief of gods intro.
suzuka is so talanted and the kami band is just unreal.
I am practicing my drawing again. Elizabeth is one of the people I have vid capped to practice drawing faces and expressions. Her absolute joy and excitement on her face when she reacts to something new is such great subject matter.
I’m so happy to get more BABYMETAL from you! If you ever decide to do more Japanese bands, please please please check out Dir En Grey. My #1 recommendation would be the live version of their song, “Vinushka.”
YESSSS
YES Kyo has such a unique vocal style, would love to see an analysis.
But maybe she should steer clear of "Obscure," if you know what I mean. 😬
@@atlasisshrugging I’m down with that. I would just want her to watch their live performances anyway.

I see the other comments mention "Akatsuki" (unfinished version), "Monochrome" the lyric video, and "Monochrome" the piano version from the channel The First Take. I completely agree, and I've been dying to see your reaction to the piano version. So when/if you have the time (even if just for yourself), I'll link it just so that it's easier to find. It's amazing. ua-cam.com/video/h-hPGRSjgms/v-deo.html
Su has such a gorgeous voice. I came to BABYMETAL for the novelty. Their sheer talent has kept me enthralled. Plus the Kami Band brings such an amazing landscape for the girls to shine on. I have come to love and appreciate this band so very much and they have honestly opened a door to the larger metal genre as it is interpreted in non-American countries.
Your analysis of this and Karate have given me even more appreciation. I love everything you do to help me understand a skill and talent I know I don't have.
Thank you!
Excellent video once again!
Would love to see you do an analysis of any song from IN THIS MOMENT.
Please listen to MONOCHROME (piano version) the recently released video from The First Take channel. A now older SUZUKA delivers even greater emotional maturity, precision, power, and control. Her performance, captured with crystalline clarity, makes grown men weep.
By the way I saw them live for my first time in Tokyo in January. Mind boggling how good they were. There was an issue with her earpiece not working properly the first night. She was actually slightly off pitch twice which NEVER happens EVER. It was shocking to see a hint of imperfection. I am sure some sound guy was sacrificed to the Fox God. She was perfect the next night.
It makes sense now 😢 when I went to see them live in NYC I forgot which year… I had a thought in the back of my mind that Su Metal was tired that night. I hope I get to see them live again in the future
I will argue to my death that Su is possibly the most talented and powerful vocalist of our time...with respect/honorable mention to Lady Gaga, who is also phenomenal (and a fan of BABYMETAL!). Her level of training and general intelligence over her craft is astounding, down to the fact that she has trained herself to sing while doing cardio/running on a treadmill/working out in general so she can have the strength and power in her voice and not sound winded during a song after doing a lot of the same choreography Moa and Yui did and/or do.
On top of that, I will also argue that I haven't see someone with the same stage presence and crowd control ability since Freddie Mercury. She has the crowd eating out of her hand over the course of one song and then owns them the rest of the way through her performance. She has taken to smiling more on stage since Yui left, especially the first year or so until they settled back into a trio on stage, but still will hit you with her death stare whenever she pleases. It's incredible and I'm hoping against hope to be seeing them here in the states later this year if/when they announce a tour.
You do know they're already booked for three festivals in the states this year?
@@jamesmcclung153 I do, but none are near enough to me where I can even attempt to go (plus I'm too old for all-day festivals at this point). I'd much rather see them closer to where I am if possible. The upside is that there's a precedent as they were here during their 2019 tour, but until they officially announce and my ass has tickets, I'm not going to get my hopes too high.
@@mr.osclasses5054 I hear ya. Blue Ridge Fest is close enough to me, but too expensive and yea, I'm in the same boat. Too dang old for a 3 day festival. lol
Oh god, I just realized that if I take a job offer involving a move, my chances of being near a Babymetal concert drops to near zero. er, I guess New York would only be 3 hours away, I could hope?
@@Zagaroth Out of sheer curiosity, where would you potentially be moving to?

Road of Resistance is the song that got me into them, and the video will always stay my #1 favorite
I love your reaction videos, you always approach things with such positivity and an openness to embrace new things. It's definitely inspiring to see how much joy you take in others creating art.
They did a performance in THE FIRST TAKE! Raw matured vocals you should def check it out
Thank you for this excellent review. The nasalized “n” is a characteristic of the Japanese language and often is not reproduced in recordings. You’re the first person to point this out. and I think Su-metal’s ability to project this sound might be related to the precise way in which she holds her microphone.
Many years ago someone explained Su-metal’s remarkable ability in breath control by saying that she had the lung capacity of a blue whale.
The thing about the BABYMETAL dancers is that they are actors who sing and dance. As I watched your excellent review I remembered Su-metal’s initial performance which is considerably more dynamic. Also at the end, she does a magic trick. Now that you’ve reviewed this version, which is a very good one, here is a link to the original one.

We need more Babymetal!
I also highly recommend reacting to Monochrome Piano Version if you haven't already. It really showcases Su-Metal in a way i haven't seen much before & it's brilliant!! 🙀💕
All this while on a rotating platform which would almost certainly make me fall over even at that speed.
Plus something few people mention; she's passing only a few feet from the drum kit every rotation. Now, I don't know how many of you have been that close to a full drum kit being played, let alone by the Kami band. But they are £"$"ing loud. Unnervingly so. She has earplugs you say? Doesn't matter. That close your body will be telling you there is basically an earthquake going on right in front of you.
So to keep the vocals so even with all this going on is nothing short of superhuman.
All in a day's work for Su. She is our goddess.
Su has been singing since she was a child. Even as a 9 year old, she was recording the master vocal tracks for the older singers to follow.
Love babymetal!
I could binge your content all day. Best in the biz
I have seen A LOT of bands live and want to see a lot more... and Baby Metal might be in the top 3 if not the #1 band I want to see.
Beautiful song, amazing performance, and a wonderful reaction. One of my favorite performances of this song, I like to think it's a song about a young girl and her cape, and the dramatic fall to her knees is so cute. There's another version of this song, Akatsuki (unfinished) that you'll need to hear later, but it's part of the "Trilogy of Death" that I'm hoping you'll do all together. There's also a "Trilogy of Light" that is beautiful.
Speaking of beautiful, we really need you to react to both versions of Monochrome. Both are great, and feel like different songs. The piano version has brought many a person to tears - not that I'm expecting or wanting to see you in tears, just a fair warning, it's a very moving piece and Su's voice shines.
Thank you for your reaction.
Babymetal is great 👍….each song is an adventure. Not all of them suit my taste but my god the ones that do I watch those performances repeatedly. Always best to watch live in my opinion.
Thanks! Kitsune's Up!
