You may notice in the video I didn't copy one of the layer masks properly which slightly messed up my edit. That's where I ended up cutting the video but still using the first part and just re doing the edit to finish the video. Just remember, don't make that same mistake I did or you will have to start over just like me.
I have tried to follow your steps however my brush isn't doing its job so I cannot do this :( I have tried to find the solution but I don't understand why my brush isn't doing its job
me too...iam very frustrated because when i need to do something in photoshop i just see tuturials and follow the steps but the tools never seem to be ready for me, so this tuturials are useless because they all fail in explaining in detail the configuration of the tools..
Thank you so much. I had been trying to figure out how to make multiple layer composites (in Gimp), primarily so I can use my one cheap Speedlight to make well lit images. All the other tuts skimmed over a lot of the workflow, but yours really helped in understanding the whole process. Many thanks
How would you do this on a Windows Keyboard, not Mac where the Option key does not exist? What is the actual function you are doing when moving the picture onto another one to ensure you dont have to do it over again? Cannot seem to figure that out. Thanks for the great tutorial though. I am stuck after step one, because there is no option key. :)
Thanks for the video! The smart selection tool makes it nice to select the subject, and make sure if your subject over laps that you have the layers in the right order top to bottom. I have to redo mine because of that, but a great learning tutorial. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Is there any action available on photoshop so you can blend two photos as close as possible the background, it's useful when you don't have a tripod.
At 3:38, when I go to Copy my layer to the next layer up with the Option key (on Mac), I get a Message - Replace the Layer? - don't see that on your video - don't know why I'm getting this - I did this successfully a couple of years ago and now cannot get past this - tried both Yes and No - neither works - but I must have something set incorrectly because doesn't look like I should get that message - any ideas? Thank you...
Did you colour the photos in lightroom before bringing them into photoshop or did you colour the final edit single photo? Great video and thanks for making it, super helpful!

Hello, I'm curretnly pulling hair out trying to use this technique for moon phases. Googled and watched many other videos and write ups too. For some reason the layer mask won't copy to the next. I'm using alt key as I'm on windows. Any help would be grateful, just don't get why it won't copy when it's just a case of click and drag. Thanks Richard
I don't have photoshop at the moment so I'm trying to do this using GIMP. I cant seem to copy the layer mask to the next layer. Any ideas if this is possible using GIMP? I'm relatively new to using graphics software. Thanks.
Thanks for the video! :) I would like to practice a bit, before I start a project, and if I heard it well, here are the pictures somewhere to practice on them. Did I misunderstand it or I am just idiot, that I do not find it? :)
Why not start off with aligning all the layers? You have a slight wobble between all shots. Also, i think it is easier to just add to the backgroundlayer. So you start off with all black masks and then only reveal the subject you want. Waaaaay easier!
Not only was Mike Wazowski a legend in Monsters Inc, turns out he is pretty cool with Ps. Thanks for sharing Jared, loved this video/vlog or whatever the kids call them. Can’t wait to get stuck in.
great video, I did it in photoshop as I don't have Lightroom...the result is ok but still can see the edge of each individual pictures...how do you solve that please
You sort of "have" Lightroom already. Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) which is basically the Lightroom engine with a different interface is part of Ps. ***At least it used to be though I'm not using the online CC version*** But this is a Ps task because of the layers, not Lr. As for the edges you speak of. I'm not totally sure what you mean. Though it sounds like you'll need to go over the edges carefully to only get what you want showing.
This is why I've never bothered to get into Lightroom, you got it all in Photoshop, download Bridge for sorting your images in, then you got the Raw dialogue in Photoshop for you 16bit Raws, you can then Export them, print them etc, etc. Bridge, Raw, Photoshop is a perfect workflow for me, I'm happy anyway.
Why not do it the other way around? Fill all the layer masks with black, then paint the subject in each frame white. No need to copy the layers that way.
after finishing to "paint" the first mask with the brush you need to copy what you've "painted" to the next mask (by holding option clic & drag on Mac (or alt on PC) ) to not have to paint what you've already "paint"

I like how you used someone elses tutorial in your ideo but didn't link to it in your description box...
lol, he is speaking about Mat like in whole video and he wrote a link for his web and PS system even with discount!

Never tried doing this style even though I've seen it pretty often on Instagram, seems like a pretty straight-forward technique, thanks for sharing!

Do you have to drag and drop every layer? I am new to photoshop. Thanks for the help
Thanks so much Jared! This is ultra helpful and it's always fun as you make any teaching fun!
I'm enjoying the daily fro and am grateful for the free tips you share on UA-cam.

@@lumenspaul yes, the layer mask moves to the next but what I've brushed doesn't copy over

It is better and easier you do edit the pictures as panorama in photoshop, you get layer masks and alignment

Photoshop does that for you, Jared ;)
Select all layers > Edit > Allign Layers
It looks like Matt (in the referenced video)already did this step, since the edges didn't line up with the framing.
You're a genius. Do you have a UA-cam channel?

Thanks! How to apply a luminosity layer to several images at once?
Shadows are paramount to the jump 👍
Thanks Jared
What lens did you use to shoot the sequence with?
This is great. More of these if you don't mind, please.
I can't paint the other layer with brush
How long will the code be offered for? Please say to at least next Friday
Something else is happening to my files when I follow you.. i must be doing something wrong... i really wanna learn how to do this

Only possible in the big Ps?
Or also in PsElements
Thanks a lot !
what about an inverted layer mask? I think this would maybe be quicker?
nice tutorial!!
Enjoyed watching this video
Great tutorial. Thanks Jared.
Mabe..but I love to do multiple exposures in Mirrorless cameras...Fuji is awesome at that...
Can I do this in lightroom mobile?
Thank you
I just want to say thank you so much I subscribed

What does he mean by the word options key as I am on windows
I'm sure you've either figured it out by now or given up, but for others looking, the windows version of the options key is "Alt".
@@brockmartens9382 - Not working, as holding the ALT key only copies the layer. It does not do what it does in this tutorial. :)
i followed your steps and i got a black shadow person instead of 2 people wtf...
Oh i know this location, this is at Princeton university, their track and field stadium lol I've competed there so many times
for people on windows, when he says hold option, hold "ALT" instead.

Is there a name for this technique?
Whats he mean when he says hold option to copy. That has me lost
after finishing to "paint" the first mask with the brush you need to copy what you've "painted" to the next mask (by holding option clic & drag on Mac (or alt on PC) ) to not have to paint what you've already "paint"
